For me, as a Trekkie since early childhood, Star Trek has accompanied me in many ways including a huge influence onto my AFOLdom – so finally having official LEGO Star Trek sets and minifigures is a dream come true for me. You will have my in-depth review on the Enterprise-D very soon, but for now we will focus on the GwP that comes exclusively with it – the Type 15 Shuttlepod.

Parts

There are no new moulds or recolours in this set, but it comes with these beautiful stickers and an exclusive minifigure of Ro Laren, the Bajoran Ensign that joined the cast in Season 5 of The Next Generation, and had recurring appearances.

The stickers include the shuttle's name, Onizuka, and the interior features a depiction of an LCARS system display with the schematic of another ship – which I will return to later – and the Stardate 44885.5, which is from the episode The Mind's Eye where Geordi La Forge travels to the planet Risa in the Onizuka for an AI seminar and some relaxation, but his trip is anything but relaxing. Notably, the official press release from The LEGO Group mentions this Stardate, but says it is 45076.3 – which is Ensign Ro Laren's first episode, which would make more sense. Perhaps this was a change that did not occur in time for production?

The torso (6570745) of Ro Laren launches together with the other characters in the Enterprise-D set. Her head, however, is unique to this set and features the Bajoran nose ridges and earring.

It even features the prominent birthmark beneath her mouth – I initially thought it was some dust or dirt on the part and tried to scrub it off, until I recognized it as the birthmark. Interestingly, the hairpiece (6420630) is a common one, but fits perfectly with the earring – a clever combo of new head print and existing hairpiece.

There are two parts that appear only in one other set and are also the highest quantity in a set.

There are also several parts that are neither rare nor in high quantity, but are noteworthy to me in the context of a GwP:

  • 1x Technic, Brick 1 x 3 with Holes in White (6476051 | 5565)
  • 2x Slope 14 4 x 1 in White (6554824 | 5654)
  • 1x Wedge 5 x 2 Left and Right in White (6482745 | 3504 / 6482744 | 3505)

  • 8x Slope 30 1 x 1 x 2/3 in Bright Light Yellow (6296498 | 54200)
  • 1x Panel 1 x 4 x 3 with Side Supports - Hollow Studs in Trans-Black (6514157 | 60581)

And last but not least is another part having its second appearance in 2025 after a nearly decade-long hiatus.

  • 2x Wedge 4 x 4 (Slope 18 Corner) in White (6539352 | 43708)

The build

The shuttlepod comes in three bags.

You start with the undercarriage of the pod that has small warp nacelles on the left and right side. For the tips of the nacelles the set uses common white 2x2x2 cones. A part that could fit the aesthetic of the reference maybe even better would be Cone 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 Octagonal (6039), because of the geometrical look of it and the octagonal lining. Sadly this part has been out of production for nearly 30 years.

Bag two brings the doors of the cabin and the rear panels on the left and right side of the pod.

The last bag consists of the front windscreen and the two remaining front panels, as well as the rear hatch. The latter one can be opened, but since it is supposed to be the engine of the shuttle, it has no real play value to it.

Conclusion

The shuttlepod is a worthy GwP that is true to the reference material, and a well placed tie-in to the Enterprise-D set that it will accompany on Black Friday.

I really like this GwP, it feels a bit like a LEGO Speed Champions set in space – with a load of stickers, nice parts usage and a clean, true to reference aesthetic. I would really love to see this as a regular set for a smaller budget because while it is a great GwP, it would make an awesome set.

It also gives us another (partially) exclusive minifigure of Ro Laren. While I would rather have seen Lt. Tasha Yar here instead, as an add-on or completion of the cast, I really like having Ro Laren because she added another Star Trek race – the Bajorans – into the mix of minifigures that will be available together with the set.

One final remark on one sticker in particular. The computer screen shows the schematic of a Romulan D’Deridex Class ship or commonly referred to as Romulan Warbird. We have seen in the past that sets had decorations in them that hinted at a future set, e.g. Barad-dûr which hinted at 10354 The Lord of the Rings: The Shire™ (and a possible future Minas Tirith?) in the Palantir.

A LEGO Romulan Warbird would make a great set, while I personally would love to see a Klingon Bird-of-Prey.  Either way, be it a hint or not, it is a great sticker clearly made with love and attention to detail, as are all the stickers. I wish we could get the sheets on Pick a Brick, because they will be very useful for LEGO Trekkies like me!
