Last year, LEGO® Technic released three playsets under a multi-theme-spanning Space banner. Another set was added to the lineup in August 2025; and where the previous sets explored Mars, we now stay (relatively) closer to home – with 42211 Lunar Outpost Moon Rover Space Vehicle.
After dissecting the contents of the June 2025 wave of LEGO® Technic sets, it’s time to check out what is built with them. We’ll start with 42209 Volvo L120 Electric Wheel Loader. Also, sorry in advance for the rant.
We’re digging into the August 2025 LEGO® Technic sets, starting with the massive 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator. Although this digger looks big, with 2359 parts it sits at number 18 on the list of biggest-ever LEGO Technic sets. Yet, according to Brickset, the RRP of US$429.99/ £349.99/ 399,99€/ AU$599.99 ranks it number 7 out of the most expensive LEGO Technic sets ever. Is that price warranted?
August is very near, bringing us five additions to the LEGO® Technic 2025 lineup. The new arrivals are a nice mix: we are treated to two standard cars in 42212 Ferrari FXX K and 42213 Ford Bronco SUV; a remote-controlled vehicle 42214 Lamborghini Revuelto Super Sports Car; a trip to the moon with 42211 Lunar Outpost Moon Rover Space Vehicle; and we move mountains with the massive 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator.
The second wave of LEGO® Technic for 2025 is hitting shelves next month.
It’s comprised of 3 sets: 42208 Aston Martin Valkyrie, 42209 Volvo
L120 Electric Wheel Loader, and 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline
GT-R (R34) Car. I think it’s not much of a spoiler when I say that each
one is attractive to MOCers in its own way.
For now, we’ll take a look at the new elements in all 3 sets, and at a later date, the actual models.
Set 42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R Motorcycle was the 2024 addition to the 1:8-scale LEGO® Technic motorcycle range, depicting the Kawasaki Ninja H2R, also from 2024. It is noteworthy for being the first set to feature new engine cylinder elements that have quickly spread to all kinds of sets, big and small.
The turn of the 1990s brought immense technological innovation to Formula 1 racing, and with it fierce rivalry as teams competed for race car construction and driving dominance. 10353 Williams Racing FW14B & Nigel Mansell is the second historic F1 LEGO® Icons set from this era, showcasing an engineering marvel which finally put Team McLaren-Honda in Williams' mirrors again.
The March 2025 wave of LEGO® Technic sets consists of 5 vehicles. I’ve already looked at the 2 large F1 cars, and now I turn to the 3 smaller sets, where we find 2 fast cars and a dump truck.
Throughout 2025, The LEGO Group is releasing sets based on the Formula 1 races, which kick off in Australia this weekend. LEGO® Technic joins in with (among others) two large scale F1 cars: 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car and 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car. In part 1 of this review I showed you all the new elements found in sets 42206 & 42207, and now I’ll start building the two speedy vehicles – at the same time, for comparison!

In March 2025, LEGO® Technic will release 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car and 42207 Ferrari SF-24 F1 Car: two sets depicting large scale replicas of the cars that these two teams used in the 2024 F1 season. It’s a race to the finish line to see which brings the best new elements for us.

The LEGO® Technic Ultimate Car Concept Series, which traces its roots all the way back to 1977 with 853 Car Chassis and whose modern form was codified in 2016 with 42056 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, gets its latest iteration in 2024 courtesy of set 42172 McLaren P1.

Yamaha's top-of-the-line "hyper naked" motorcycle is wearing LEGO® Technic clothes. 42159 Yamaha MT-10 SP is the second 1:5 scale motorbike from The LEGO Group, but plenty more besides the manufacturer has changed on this successor. Overhauled gearbox pieces revolutionize shifting, while plenty of regular parts get a major aesthetic upgrade with better sprue mark positioning.
Earlier this year LEGO® City 60372 Police Training Academy introduced a new type of worm gear; Technic Worm Gear 6M with Axle Hole in Light Bluish Gray and the accompanying Brick Special 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 with Worm Gear in Black. I always love to see LEGO® Technic parts appear in ‘regular’ sets, so I think a closer look is warranted.

The Liebherr LR 1300 is the largest crawler crane in the world, capable of hoisting loads of 3,000 tons up to 236 meters. Naturally, such a massive machine requires a massive LEGO® Technic set, and 42146 Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 delivers just that.
