The second wave of LEGO® Technic for 2025 is hitting shelves next month.
It’s comprised of 3 sets: 42208 Aston Martin Valkyrie, 42209 Volvo
L120 Electric Wheel Loader, and 42210 2 Fast 2 Furious Nissan Skyline
GT-R (R34) Car. I think it’s not much of a spoiler when I say that each
one is attractive to MOCers in its own way.
For now, we’ll take a look at the new elements in all 3 sets, and at a later date, the actual models.

For real, the appeal of this automobile is the colour teal. Is it a good deal? Depends on how you feel about its chromatic zeal.
New moulds
There are no new moulds here. All the set’s 'budget' for new elements went into recolouring existing moulds.
Recoloured elements
Obviously, the highlight here is the selection of elements in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise, better known as teal. Since its infamous demise and resurrection, teal hasn’t appeared prominently in many LEGO Technic sets – 42117 Race Plane, 51515 Robot Inventor and 40413 Mini Robots being the exceptions I can think of.
I’m not a fan of spreading available moulds across many colours, because it tends to leave fewer moulds in each colour to MOC with, but I admit that, for this specific car, teal is the best choice. Since the door is now properly open to teal, hopefully we’ll see more sets in this colour, to expand the parts selection.
- 7x Technic Beam 1 x 3 Thick with Center Axle Hole in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6549315 | 7229)

- 1x Technic Beam 1 x 2 Thick in Spring Yellowish Green/ Yellowish Green (6553343 | 43857)
- 8x Technic Bush 1/2 Smooth with Axle Hole Semi-Reduced in Spring Yellowish Green/ Yellowish Green (6553342 | 32123b, 42136) (+1 spare)
- 6x Technic Beam 1 x 2 with Axle on Side in Black (6542617 | 7244)
Besides teal, we get two parts in another uncommon shade for LEGO Technic: yellowish green. The model has highlights in this colour, but only two elements are moulded in it; the rest is achieved with stickers.
The black beam with an axle tacked on the side was previously available only in orange in 42204 Fast & Furious Toyota Supra MK4 (see our review of set 42204 by TobyMac) and red (in 21355 The Evolution of STEM (see our review of set 21355 by Thomas), and now I’m glad to see it appearing in a more neutral colour. As will be noted below, this colour also debuts in set 42210.
Like TobyMac, I’m not seeing myself making much use of this part, but that’s because my crummy MOCs almost never use half-module offsets.
The new 3L beam with central axle hole (7229) is a very useful part, previously only existing in white. I’m glad to see it appearing here in black (also teal, but that’s not as useful) and, as we’ll see in a bit, light bluish grey. Neutral colours are always nice for generic, functional parts like this.
Rare elements
In 1 other set:
- 4x Technic Panel Fairing #22 5L Small Smooth, Side A in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6528358 | 11947)
- 4x Technic Panel Fairing #21 5L Small Smooth, Side B in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6528359 | 11946)
- 4x Technic Axle Connector Smooth [with x Hole + Orientation] in Vibrant Coral/ Coral (6544409 | 59443)
- 2x Technic Pin Connector Hub with 1 Axle in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6547159 | 22961)
- 2x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled Quadruple - 60° in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6508519 | 6611)
I suspect this set required more teal recolours than its budget would allow. Likely that’s why with 42117 Race Plane, being a non-licensed set and therefore able to have any colour scheme, teal was chosen as one of the colours there in order to introduce the two small panels #21 and #22 and reuse them here, therefore spreading out the recolour cost.
The choice of vibrant coral for these four axle connectors baffles me, especially considering the set already contains this mould in other colours. Perhaps there was a production surplus and this was an innocuous place to dump them?
Regardless, I never say no to more parts in UV-fluorescent colours.
In 2 other sets:
I'm happy about these pieces.
- 1x Technic Panel Curved 3 x 9 in Black (6470746 | 5427)
- 3x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 in Black (6540723 | 7101)
In 3 other sets:
- 5x Technic Beam 1 x 5 Thick in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6533555 | 32316)
- 1x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular Double 4L in Black (6428363 | 98989)
- 4x Technic Beam 1 x 2 Thick with Pin Hole and Axle Hole in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6295148 | 60483)
Other interesting parts
- 12x Technic Piston in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (6452846 | 4369)
This engine piston appeared just over one year ago in 42170 Kawasaki Ninja H2R (see my 42170 review published just this week), and already it has spread into lots of sets, big and small. Of these, this one is notable in that it comes with by far the largest number of them: 12. If you’re thinking of building a radial engine, this set may be worth looking into as a parts donor.

New moulds
This set comes with just one new mould but it’s a significant one, given that we’re discussing a front loader: it's the bucket.
- 1x Technic Digger Bucket 8 x 16 in Black (6508525 | 6617)
As its name implies, it’s 8 modules long and 16 wide: a medium-sized bucket.
Some previous bucket-wielding sets added detail to their sides via stickers. In this case, however, most of the greebling is built-in. This is possibly a result of the Volvo license requiring the creation of a specific pattern, but fortunately it looks generic enough to use in non-Volvo models.
Its connection to the rest of the LEGO Technic System is a pair of vertical pin hole trios, separated by a 5-module gap.
Here’s where is sits in the modern bucket hierarchy; second from the right. It’s a smidgen smaller than Digger Bucket 10 x 18 (32030) that retired in 2011, and a bit bigger than Digger Bucket / Shovel 7 x 10 x 5 with 4.85 Hole (28216) that retired in 2017. Digger Bucket 13 x 23 (15265) is in a league of its own.
It’s a bucket matryoshka! Or a “buckryoshka”, if you will.
Recoloured elements
This set’s recolours aren’t as extensive as the Valkyrie’s (again, maybe due to budget; this time part of it going to the new bucket) but are very welcome due to the fact that they’re in common, MOCable colours.
- 2x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Perpendicular Double Split [Reinforced] in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (6546797 | 69819)
- 2x Technic Beam 3 x 5 L-Shape with Alternating Holes in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (6546795 | 2477)
- 8x Technic Beam 1 x 7 Thick with Alternating Holes in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (6546803 | 2391)
- 4x Technic Beam 1 x 9 Thick with Alternating Holes in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6508520 | 6612)
- 2x Bar 3L in Orange (6547502 | 17715)
Flip-flops aren’t just for your feet and for electronics: flip-flop beams, with their holes in alternating directions, are instrumental in sturdy assemblies. Those less inclined towards LEGO Technic should also appreciate the appearance of the 3L bar in another colour.
Rare elements
In 1 other set:
- 4x Wheel 43.2 x 26 Technic Racing Small with 6 Pinholes in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (6536546 | 56908)
- 4x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled #4 - 135° in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (4141629 | 32192)
- 2x Technic Link 1 x 6 without Stoppers in Dark Green/ Green (6516871 | 32005a)
- 1x Technic Axle 5L with 2 CV Joints in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6408171 | 2405)
- 1x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled Quadruple - 60° in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6508519 | 6611)
Especially noteworthy here is the return of the 6-spoked wheel in yellow, which has been absent since 2011. But that pales in comparison with the yellow angle connector #4, which was last seen in 2000, a whopping 25 years ago. Worse still, it existed in limited quantities and only in the rare and expensive 8457 Power Puller. At the moment, prices for this element on the secondary market are astronomical but soon they'll thankfully be brought down to Earth.
In 2 other sets:
- 4x Tyre 68.7 x 27 S in Black (6429788 | 52985)
- 1x Tile 6 x 6 with Bottom Tubes in Bright Yellow/ Yellow (6469905 | 10202)
- 1x Technic Beam 3 x 5 L-Shape with Alternating Holes in White (6439225 | 2477)
- 1x Technic Gear 12 Tooth with Clutch on One Side in Dark Green/ Green (6434577 | 3590)
In 3 other sets:
- 1x Hose Rigid 3mm D. 7L / 5.6cm in Bright Orange/ Orange (6440441 | 75c07)
- 1x Technic Driving Ring 2L, 8 Ridges in Dark Stone Grey / Dark Bluish Gray (6408180 | 2473)
Other interesting parts
- 3x Technic Linear Actuator Mini with Dark Bluish Gray Head, Orange Axle and No Center Ridges in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6221464 | 37773)
I hadn’t noticed until now that the mini-linear actuator (mLA) had gone through a slight change in the last few years. With the previous version (92693, on the right) the base of the 2 “arms” has 3 ridges on each side, whereas the new version, on the left, has only 2.
Both versions take the same number of turns (19.5) to go between fully extended and fully contracted, and feel like they require the same torque for their internal clutches to disengage. The only difference I found in the workings is that when the new version’s clutch disengages it sounds more “clicky” and hollow, suggesting some internal changes were made.

Wow, that’s a mouthful of a name. The powers that be likely thought it was necessary to append “Car” to the end of the already long name just in case you didn’t know what kind of model this is. Looking at the car this set is based on and its parts inventory, I have only one question: where silver?
New moulds
Dear LEGO vehicle builders, are you sitting comfortably? This set has some sweet treats for you.
- 4x Wheel Cover 6 Spoke with Axle Hole - 43mm D. [Fits 44772] in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6508515 | 6687)
Instead of creating a whole new mould for the set’s wheels, the LEGO Technic team opted for a wheel cover.
Here it is compared to the other wheel cover I own, Wheel Cover 7 Spoke with Axle Hole - 56mm D. (58088). The new element is noticeably smaller and shallower.
This part’s diameter isn’t an integer number of modules; a little more than 5. This means it won’t be trivial to integrate it as decoration with other elements around it.
On the other hand, it fits perfectly on the wheel it was designed for, part 44772. Its flange ensures that it stays centred with the wheel, even without an axle connecting both parts together.
Looking at the flange, it reminded me of a train wheel. Could this part be used as such? Turns out it can: joining two of them with a 6L axle, they roll smoothly along LEGO track without sliding off. I can’t image an official LEGO Technic train, but I bet it’s just a matter of time before a fan creates one using these wheel covers. The only thing missing is a connection point on its surface, to attach a steam locomotive’s coupling rod.
The wheel cover’s diameter may not be a perfect match for most builds, but works well in conjunction with the water wheel plate (64566, 69984) and a half-dozen 3.18 mm bars. My M:Tron quota for the day is now fulfilled; my job here is done.
- 2x Technic Link 1 x 4 without Stoppers in Black (6508518 | 6610)
Car builders will go bananas over this new smaller steering link, measuring 4 modules long, as it is a godsend to those wishing to build functional and especially compact steering axles. Just like its larger siblings, its connections are a small ball socket at each end.
Here it is, compared to other existing lengths. I wonder if we’ll ever see an even shorter link, perhaps 2L?
- 4x Technic Axle 4L with 2 CV Joints in Black (6561760 | 6615)
If car builders went bananas over the previous part, what’s the next level? Going pineapples? Last year we saw a large improvement in compact suspensions with the introduction of Technic Axle 5L with 2 Constant Velocity Joints (2405), and already we get an even more compact version.
Here’s how the two compare. At 4 modules long, the new version is 20% shorter than the older one.
New prints
All the set’s graphical detailing is achieved with stickers except for the rear mudguards, which present a curved surface too complex for stickers.
- 1x Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 11 x 5 x 2 #32 with Blue Stripes (Left) in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6546190 | 2509pr0001)
- 1x Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 11 x 5 x 2 #32 with Blue Stripes (Right) in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6546191 | 2509pr0002)
Therefore, these parts come printed with symmetrical patterns. Thankfully, if you just want plain light grey mudguards for your builds, you won’t need to buy these and rub off the prints, as you’ll see below.
Recoloured elements
The original car’s main colour is silver, but its LEGO version has to settle with the decidedly more pedestrian (pun intended) light grey. Fortunately this colour is a lot more usable for other builds, and we get lots of elements in it. Blue, another common colour, also has is mould selection boosted by this set.
- 3x Technic Connector Beam 3 x 3 in Blue (6435074 | 39793)
- 2x Technic Panel 3 x 7 x 1 in Blue (6540760 | 71709)
- 2x Technic Beam 1 x 2 with Axle on Side in Black (6542617 | 7244)
- 2x Ball 19mm in Black (6558350 | 52629)
- 2x Equipment Cup / Teacup Saucer with Recessed Stud on Top [PLAIN] in Trans-Red (6534874 | 38799)
- 1x Technic Beam 1 x 3 Thick with Center Axle Hole in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6540763 | 7229)
- 2x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled #7 - 168.75° in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6533802 | 4450)
- 8x Technic Beam 2 x 5 L-Shape with Quarter Ellipse Thick in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6534870 | 80286)
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing #18 Large Smooth, Side B in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6534868 | 64682)
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing #17 Large Smooth, Side A in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6535136 | 64392)
- 2x Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 11 x 5 x 2 #32 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6534864 | 2509)
- 2x Technic Wishbone Suspension Arm 13 x 6 x 3 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6534865 | 5429)
- 5x Technic Panel 3 x 11 x 1 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6250244 | 15458)
Amongst the grey recolours, I’m happy to see two recent moulds: the 3L beam with axle hole (7229) and the angle connector #7 (4450).
Of these, I’d like to highlight the Wishbone Suspension Arm 13 x 6 x 3 (5429), which previously only came in black and in a single set, 42172 McLaren P1™(see my review of set 42172). I call it the “Escher Beam” due to its almost magical ability to become a symmetrical of itself and, when viewed from certain angles, forming the optical illusion of appearing straight when it isn’t.
This is the first time that the teacup saucer appears in a transparent colour. It’s useful for making a circle with a diameter between that of a 1x1 round plate and a 2x2 inverted dish. Classic Space and Blacktron 1 builders will surely appreciate the trans-red hue for their buildings and craft.
Rare elements
In 1 other set:
- 2x Technic Beam 3 x 5 with Ball And Castor Joint in Titanium Metallic / Pearl Titanium (6317441 | 39370)
- 2x Technic Panel 3 x 2 x 5 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6476998 | 80285)
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 1 x 1 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6525409 | 89679)
- 2x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6523808 | 7101)
- 4x Technic Pin Connector Hub with 2 Axles in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6538176 | 27940)
- 4x Technic Pin Connector Hub with 2 Perpendicular Axles in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6226939 | 10197)
- 4x Technic Pin Connector Hub with 2 Perpendicular Axles in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6523968 | 10197)
Of these, the light grey pin connector hub (10197) may be the most interesting because not only has it previously appeared just once, but also that was in 4000025 LEGO Ferguson Tractor, the LEGO® Inside Tour set for 2018, which made it extremely rare.
In 2 other sets:
- 4x Technic Steering Arm 3 x 1 with Towball Socket in Black (6506201 | 5997)
- 2x Technic Bush 1/2 Smooth with Axle Hole Semi-Reduced in Bright Blue/ Blue (6536559 | 32123b)
- 1x Technic Beam 1 x 2 with Axle on Side in Bright Orange/ Orange (6540720 | 7244)
In 3 other sets:
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing #2 Small Smooth Short, Side B in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6013547 | 87086)
- 3x Technic Panel Fairing #7 3L Very Small Smooth, Side A in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6510996 | 2387)
- 3x Technic Panel Fairing #8 3L Very Small Smooth, Side B in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6513880 | 2389)
- 5x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6321713 | 71682)
Interestingly, panel #3 (87086) is rarer than its symmetrical twin, panel #4 (87080). This is because there’s an obscure set that only includes the latter, not the former: LEGO® Education 45826 SUBMERGED Challenge Set.

Conclusion
Not many new moulds come in these three sets, but the ones that do are quite significant, especially for construction machine and car builders. New colours for existing moulds, on the other hand, are really numerous: teal, yellow and light grey are here to bolster their respective parts palettes.
Stay tuned for the next part of this article, where we’ll analyse the finished models, their functionality, and how interesting the rest of their inventories may be for your creations.
Oh, and you may be disappointed (or relieved) to see no cats at the end of this article: since we’re only looking at individual parts so far and not finished models, the cats aren’t allowed in my LEGO room as the photo equipment is deployed. It’s hard enough to keep dust specks and other impurities off my backgrounds, I don’t want to deal with cat hair on top of that. Don’t worry (or do, depending on your opinion): the moggies will be back.

As a '90s kid whose formative years were spent with themes like Cyber Slam, Throwbots, Roboriders, and Bionicle, I'll never say no to more teal Technic!
ReplyDeleteMy main thought looking at those new smaller linkages was "rip to all the possible bionicle functions they could have been used in" lmao
DeleteEven I don't like the Technic line, these articles about parts and their usage is the real stuff I come to this web. Not the "sponsored content" set reviews. Thank you for keeping the web still "Elementary" :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much :) It’s lovely to hear.

ReplyDeleteleft and right are reversed from the photo in this description:
"With the previous version (92693, on the left) the base of the 2 'arms' has 3 ridges on each side, whereas the new version, on the right, has only 2."
Well spotted! When arranging the parts for the photos, I went back and forth with the positions of the parts, so I ended up mixing up the image and text. 😅
Deleteit's corrected now.
You might be a little unenthused, but I'm ecstatic about all these new teal options, particularly the three-beam with center axle hole. One of my top build colors, easily. As a parts pack, the Aston Martin is a day one buy for me.
ReplyDeleteIn addition to the bounty of Bright Bluish Green parts in the Aston-Martin (including some useful System elements), the two Spring Yellowish Green recolors are an interesting surprise! Wonder whether we'll see more of that color in future Technic sets… but I imagine even if so, it'll continue to be used sparingly for accents, since Technic doesn't tend to use pastel colors very extensively.
ReplyDeleteThe Tr. Red saucers used as taillights in 42210 are also quite nice! I'm sure those will be very useful for both sets and MOCs in a variety of themes/genres. I definitely agree Spacers will probably put them to good use!
I suspect the relative lack of new molds across these three sets may be due to having a lot of the theme's new mold budget being saved for the August wave. For example, the Ford Bronco is gonna be introducing both a 9x1x3 wheel arch panel and a 9x2x3 variant of https://rebrickable.com/parts/71689/technic-panel-car-mudguard-13-x-2-x-5, the Volvo EC500 is introducing a 3x3x1 triangular panel, and the Lunar Outpost ahs what I think may be a new wheel cover (unless I overlooked another set it debuted in).
Even though there aren't many new moulds, I'm very satisfied with their usefulness: smaller suspension elements are always welcome. :) And we've seen worse in the past: for example, if I'm not mistaken, in 2018 the only new Technic mould was the doggie for the Mack truck. ;)
