Parts review: June 2025 LEGO® Friends sets

Posted by tobymac

Summer is coming to the Northern Hemisphere, and Heartlake City continues to grow with another wave of sets. With 13 products, the range coming on 1 June 2025 is a fair bit smaller than January's, which featured 20, but that won't diminish the quality of the models, or of course the new elements they bring – and there's even a new color.

a wide selection of new pieces from Friends Lego sets for June 2025

As with the previous waves, I’ve opened up all the boxes we received for review – 11 of the 13 sets – and dug through them to bring you an overview of all the new elements these bring us, before building the featured models in later articles.

The list is pretty long, with 124 previously unseen elements, so I’ll save the 50 newly printed mini-doll parts for when I review the sets themselves. However, I do include a small sneak peek at the end of this article.

The 11 sets I examined are:

Sets 42648 Panda Sanctuary Animal Care and 42665 Puppy Playground were excluded from the package.

New color: 424 Ochre Yellow

We start off with exciting news: June will see the arrival of a new color! Putting a damper on the news is the fact that Ochre Yellow will mostly be used just for animals and hairpieces. Where recent additions like 402 Reddish Orange and 368 Vibrant Yellow were used for all types of bricks, 424 Ochre Yellow appears to be limited to a select group of parts, similar to how other recent additions like 422 Sienna Brown and 423 Umber Brown are (as of yet) exclusive to use as skin colors.

a 2-colour lego friends pony, alongside other lego pieces with a similar colour to the horse hair on the mane and tail. One of the pieces is Lego Modulex, which is smaller that normal lego

In this batch of sets, I was able to find only a single element that featured Ochre Yellow. This new pony, which you’ll see in more detail later on, has a mane and tail in the color.

The name Ochre Yellow might sound familiar to you, and you’d be right: the color was used in the LEGO® Modulex System of the 1960s, although with the different Color ID of 6. I’ve lined up the pony with a 1x4 Modulex brick in 6 Ochre Yellow, and there is a resemblance but 424 is more vibrant and orangey than 6. It's also possible the age of the brick might have caused some discoloration.

I’ve also added tiles in colors 226 Cool Yellow, 24 Bright Yellow, 191 Flame Yellowish Orange and 5 Brick Yellow (Bright Light Yellow, Yellow, Bright Light Orange and Tan). You can see that 424 Ochre Yellow is closest to 191 Flame Yellowish Orange.

New molds

Tire Wheelchair Balloon (7201)

Visiting the beach in a wheelchair can be difficult, as skinny tires will get stuck in the sand. So Aaron has tricked out his ride.

grey donut shaped fat lego balloon wheels, and the wheelchair they attach to

Two large balloon tires (7201) appear in light bluish gray (6527056 | 7201) in set 42673 Family Holiday, and fit on the standard mini-doll wheelchair (2135) as well as the minifigure version with pins (80440).

Like the other wheelchair wheels, the new tires feature a ½ pin hole, fitting on the short side of a LEGO® Technic Pin ¾, seen here in tan. A full pin can be fitted by lining up two tires with their flat sides against each other.

lego friends balloon tyres compared to other lego pieces of similar width

The diameter of the tire spans just over 2 modules, making it wider than a Zamor Sphere from LEGO® BIONICLE® (54821, above top right), but smaller than a Dragon Energy Core from LEGO® NINJAGO® (92834, above bottom right). The height is easier, as it measures exactly 2 plates.

pictures of the donut wheel attached to 1x1 round bricks, and a lego bowl accessory

The pinhole can also hold a stud, but only on the flat underside, as the curved side is too narrow. That side does fit a 1x1 round brick or plate though, due to the bottom groove in these parts. A food bowl fits snugly too, and sits inside the flat side as well without any connection.

the wheelchair balloon tyres attached to 2x2 round tile and a barrel piece

The inside of the tire is slightly smaller than 2 modules, with the rim lining up with a 2x2 round tile, plate or brick. The hoops of a LEGO barrel (2489, 26170, 7792) match the width of a standard 2x2 round brick, but the upper section has a slightly smaller diameter. This makes it a perfect fit for the tire.

The team immediately shouted "spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP!" upon seeing the grey tire, and indeed it will make a great detail on a thruster or laser cannon.

My mind, however, went to a Tesla coil, prompting this scene from Frinkenstein's Monster.

What will you use it for? Let us know in the comments.

Bar 6L with Stop Rings and Double Bend (7078)

Another great mold for greebling and detailing is the introduction of a new bar with a twist, or rather a zig-zag.

two similar lego bar pieces. One is the existing part 63965 Bar 6L with Stop Ring, the other is the new reddish brown version with 2 bends in the middle and an extra stop.

Set 42671 Plant Cafe and Flower Shop contains a Bar 6L with Stop Rings and Double Bend in Reddish Brown (6519109 | 7078).

The bent section creates a half-module offset to the bar, which takes place over the height of one brick. If my high school math is still up to date, that results in a 22.6° angle.

This new addition to the bar family is welcome, as there are not too many bent bars yet, and the mold is perfect for detailing. In the shop, the mold is used in a plant, but it can also be spotted in upcoming LEGO® Harry Potter™ sets where it’s used as a broom handle and a drainage pipe.

Plant, Round 1 x 1 - 3 Leaves (7264)

Plant, Round 1 x 1 - 3 Bamboo Leaves (30176) has been around since 1996, and is best known for its fragile leaves. I certainly have lost multiple blades over the years, so I’m happy to see a new, more rigid update.

lego foliage piece with 3 small fronds

Plant, Round 1 x 1 - 3 Leaves appears 4x in Bright Green (6549013 | 7264) in set 42671 Plant Cafe and Flower Shop.

Although the new foliage is similar to the bamboo leaves, there are some differences.

In the two left hand images below, I compare the old bamboo with the new wider-leafed version. First up, the new version is set at a neat 90° angle, making it easier to place in corners, or 4 in a square. The leaves are a bit shorter, making the total footprint 3x3 modules.

comparisons of the new 3-leaf lego plant frond with similar existing pieces

Above top right you can see that the leaves hang down a bit, reaching down around half a plate underneath the base of the stud. This is similar to its older sibling,

You could see this as an elongated version of Plant, Plate 1 x 1 Round with 3 Leaves (32607) which has a footprint of 2x2 studs, which I included above bottom right for size comparison.

It also shares some design DNA with the larger 7-leafed swordleaf (30239, 10884, 42949), which we will explore in a future post!

Animal, Pony (112160)

The LEGO Friends theme has a huge lineup of cute animals, including many horses is various sizes, so I was surprised to find there haven’t been any ponies yet. Sure, there have been horses of similar size, but these were always classified as foals as far as I can find.

lego ponies with sideswept hair in three colour cobinations

It took 13 years, but ponies come galloping in this summer, in 3 colors all found in set 42654 Pony Ranch and Stable, with side-swept hair.

  • Animal, Pony with Black Mane in Sand Blue (6543257 | 112160) - Emo-pony!
  • Animal, Pony with Tan Mane in White (6543253 | 112160)
  • Animal, Pony with Ochre Yellow Mane in Medium Nougat (6543252 | 112160)

4 views of the new lego pony, with ochre yellow hair

The pony stands a total of 3 bricks high, compared to 5 bricks for a regular LEGO Friends horse, with the stud on its back sitting 2 bricks and 1 plate high. Its footprint is 2 x 6 modules.

Headwear Accessory Alien/ Insect Antennas (6899)

This fun new headwear piece is great for creating an alien army, or building snails.

comparing the balls on the end of the new snail antennae piece with similar lego balls, and pieces that just connect to them

The tips of the antennae are the same size as on the classic antenna, which means they fit (only loosely) inside a clip or minifigure hand. The two tips sit at an unusual distance apart, less than 2 modules.

2 lego parts in shades of yellow

2 noen lego bricks and a transparent glittery horn

Decorated elements

2 lego window panes printed with black illustrations of a ufo and a girl

Paisley and Aliya are having a movie night in set 42642 Movie Night. The projector features slides that can be projected on a screen, showing a retro sci-fi scene and a reference to LEGO® Elves (which needs a reboot!).

  • Glass for Window 1 x 2 x 2 Flat with print in Trans-Clear (6534798)
  • Glass for Window 1 x 2 x 2 Flat with print in Trans-Clear (6534797)

lego robot mask and printed shield

The robot mask from LEGO® Minifigures Series 23 appears with a new print in dark turquoise (6543136) in 42674 Comic Book and Game Store. The same store also brings a new print for Shield Triangular with Spiked Top in Pearl Gold (6537800), I think showing Moon Pegasus from Liann and Nova’s favorite comic, according to the show.

2 versions of the lego squishmallow

Also from 42674 Comic Book and Game Store are two new plush toys:

  • Pillow Plush Toy with print in Lime (6523518)
  • Pillow Plush Toy with print in White (6543142)

lego friends horse and dolphin

Of course we get new animals too:

lego cats and dog. one cat has a moustache

Bear is the first dark bluish grey recolor for the chubby cat mold, and Churro goes to a costume party. Waffles the corgi receives a new print, as does kitten Nugget.

Finally, the ‘regular’ printed elements.

4 small printed legos

The comic book store has a vending machine dispensing toys, the pony ranch is overrun with blackberries, and Liann and Aliya navigate to the perfect kayaking river.

Mini-dolls sneak peek

4 lego minidoll character, mostly dressed in fun costumes

I’ll save the mini-dolls for a closer look in the set reviews, but there are fore I wanted to mention. As is usual with LEGO Friends sets, the graphic designers have done a great job bringing us new outfits for the characters, and sets 42674 Comic Book and Game Store and 42661 Unicorn and Fairy Costume Party top that with costumes and cosplay outfits. This includes Nova in a Classic Space suit!

I also love the plastic sheets used for the wings on Paisley’s fairy costume, and Autumn’s bee costume. My daughter, who crochets, loves the granny square sweater Aliya wears in several sets.

Conclusion

The June 2025 LEGO Friends wave is, with 13 sets, significantly smaller than the 20 sets we got in January. This results in fewer new elements as well: 134 as opposed to 222, but there are still some gems to be found.

The mini-dolls are hit the hardest, with ‘just’ 44 new prints and no new molds, compared to 102 new elements including new babies and 2 new leg molds in January. Rather than introducing many new molds for mini-dolls and animals, we get just one, the pony, and an expansion of the colours and prints of existing molds.

The ones we do get are very welcome, with the balloon tire providing both accessibility for disabled characters and a great greebling part. More options in foliage is welcome too, although I feel we might be reaching the limit of available molds before going overboard; a sentiment shared over the amount of recent new curved bricks.

With 51 recolors, I can’t pick a favorite, so let me know which one you are most excited by.

Now all that remains is for me to build the sets and show you all the details! Stay tuned for these articles coming soon.

  1. Ochre yellow is nice but it's no 𝘴𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘥.

  2. Nice review! A significant correction though—the opalescent unicorn horn is in fact a new mold rather than a recolor, separate from the rubbery version that's appeared before. Apart from the material the main difference is the connection point, with the earlier unicorn horn having a 3.2 mm bar connection and this one having an accessory pin to attach to hairpieces, plushies, or Friends animals!

The new bamboo piece looks like a great improvement over the classic one, using space more efficiently and being much less fragile. There are too many awesome recolors for me to comment on them all, but one of the ones I'm most excited for is the hobby horse head in black—perfect to use combined with the white one from earlier this year on tiny chess sets, or to use on its own for decorative ironwork or statuary.

  3. 42674 Comic Book and Game Store is currently off the Lego website entirely! When the link didn't work, I searched by name and even theme.
