Review: 76289 Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure from LEGO® Marvel

Posted by Kev Levell
Various loose pieces from Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure Lego set

76289 Thor vs. Surtur Construction Figure takes its cues from 2017's Thor: Ragnarok. The giant fire demon, Surtur was predicted to destroy Asgard and is depicted here as a large-ish construction figure.

From an initial look, the parts are pretty, but I'm not sure everything about this set is going to Ragna-rock my world!

Review: 76291 The Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron from LEGO® Marvel

Posted by Kev Levell
Depicting the snowy opening sequence of 2015's Avengers: Age Of Ultron, LEGO® Marvel set 76291 The Avenger Assemble: Age of Ultron takes the form of a "frozen moment" that conveys all the frenetic energy of three action-packed minutes.

The action takes place in a frosty forest setting outside a Hydra research facility in the fictional Eastern European country of Sokovia. The Avengers are all here, looking cool: Iron Man, Captain America, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and Hulk.

Are the latest LEGO® Marvel sets worth the money?

Posted by Kev Levell

As I have been reviewing the most recent wave of LEGO® Marvel sets, the issue of relative value has been troubling me increasingly. After building The Milano and Dancing Groot for review and being thoroughly happy with the value of those sets, I moved onto The Helicarrier and I was a little disappointed with what was on offer for the price. I actually felt a little mean about being so critical. Nevertheless, I embarked upon my analysis of set 76291 Avengers Assemble: Age of Ultron with a degree of pessimism.

Before proceeding further, I decided to investigate the relative cost of the August 2024 LEGO Marvel sets against other IP (intellectual property) sets and regular LEGO sets, to judge if my concerns were justified.

LEGO® Marvel review: 76295 The Avengers Helicarrier

Posted by Kev Levell

The S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier is the enormous flying aircraft carrier from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and comics. LEGO® has made two larger scale versions of this behemoth in sets before; 76042 The SHIELD Helicarrier from 2015 and 76153 Avengers Helicarrier from 2020, but now we have the first midi-scale version.

Pieces form Lego Marvel set 76295 The Avengers Helicarrier

The original Helicarrier was a massive set with a similarly massive price tag so it's nice to see set 76295 The Avengers Helicarrier aimed at the adult market with more of a 'regular birthday' price tag. But before an endorsement we need to check the specs and fly it around a bit.

LEGO® Marvel review: 76297 Dancing Groot

Posted by Kev Levell

I am Groot. Does he really need much more of an introduction than that? I am LEGO® Marvel 76297 Dancing Groot! There are only a few parts in the bags of Dancing Groot for us to report on and therefore our focus on parts is going to be a little short on content as a result.

Various lego pieces laid on a table, including one printed with huge eyes.

What Groot does contain in his little white plant pot however is bags of cuteness! He also has a couple of neat little side builds and some additional foliage that allows for a degree of customisation that really does add to the set. I'm getting ahead of myself though, so let's actually get into those bags and see exactly how cute this set really is!

LEGO® Marvel review: 76286 The Milano

Posted by Kev Levell

I love a big spaceship! I won’t lie. A nice, big, ostentatious spaceship. If it is made out of plastic LEGO® bricks and all ready to be built by me and my son to start the school summer holidays off with a bang – then even better!

various pieces from the Lego Milano laid on a table

The 2024 LEGO Guardians of the Galaxy Milano is huge. At 2090 pieces, you’d be right to expect it to be huge. So far, so good!

The Milano was gifted to Peter Quill (Star-Lord) by the Yondu Ravager Clan; this Milano was gifted to me by LEGO for this review but there, it has to be said, all similarities end.

LEGO® Marvel review & MOCs: 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet

Posted by Kev Levell

To get in the mood for reviewing LEGO® Marvel 76251 Star-Lord’s Helmet and hopefully coming up with some interesting MOCs, I grabbed my old Walkman, put in a pair of really fresh Duracell AAs, and did some quick brickdancing to a mix-tape of old skool tunes! Then I was ready to check through the new and rare parts before building the pencil-pot superhero head of the Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy.

The perpetual, joined media engine of Marvel and Disney keeps on churning and every year the sprawling 'MCU' expands in more and more directions. Not too long ago - though not even the most recent - the Eternals were added to this ever growing universe and accompanying their film were a crop of licensed LEGO® sets.

LEGO® Marvel review & MOCs: 76156 Rise Of The Domo

Released in 2021 as part of the LEGO® Marvel theme, 76156 Rise of the Domo retails for £89.99 / $89.99 / 99.99€. It contains 1040 pieces, giving a price-to-part value of 8.7p / 8.7c / 9.6c.

I confess I am not familiar with any of the Eternals source material, but when I first saw pictures of the set I was immediately interested in it as the main ship had such an unusual shape and some distinctive decorative pieces. Let’s take a closer look at the elements which will be of particular interest to our readers.
