LEGO® Marvel™ parts review: 76269 Avengers Tower

Posted by Thomas Jenkins

Avengers Assemble! Well, not quite yet, as among the 5,201 pieces that comprise the new LEGO® Marvel™ 76269 Avengers Tower there are plenty of interesting elements to investigate first.

Products in this article were gifted by The LEGO Group; the author's opinions are their own.

Recolours

There are plenty of recoloured elements in Avengers Tower for all to enjoy, despite most of the new elements being related to the minifigures within the set.

First up, two basic elements that surprisingly haven’t appeared in Dark Bluish Grey until now:

  • 7x Brick 1 x 1 x 3 in Dark Bluish Grey (6396489 | 14716)
  • 269x Window 1 x 2 x 3 Flat Front in Dark Bluish Grey (6468352 | 60593)
You read that correctly, 269 windows recoloured in DBG!

They are accompanied by two more useful elements now available in DBG:

  • 2x Brick Special 1 x 2 with 1 Center Stud on 1 Side in Dark Bluish Grey (6473748 | 86876)
  • 2x Slope Inverted 60° 1 x 4 x 3 in Dark Bluish Grey (6454667 | 67440)
The appearance of that 1x2 SNOT brick in 10329 Tiny Plants made me realize how useful this element can be. Perhaps now I can give the cone technique used in that set a sci-fi twist. I’m glad to see it appear in Dark Bluish Grey as it’s a useful colour for space and Star Wars builds.

Next, a few transparent pieces:

  • 2x Door 3 x 6 in Trans-Black (6447012 | 80683)
  • 1x Windscreen 6 x 4 x 1 Curved in Trans-Light Blue (6446029 | 18973)
  • 61x Panel 4 x 4 x 3 Quarter Cylinder in Trans-Light Blue (6444526 | 4041)
Here’s a recolour I’ve been waiting for for some time:

  • 7x Plate Special 1 x 3 Rounded with 3 Open Studs in Light Bluish Grey (6446028 | 77850)
LBG is a useful generic colour, and this has proven to be a very useful element since it was released back in the LEGO® Speed Champions sets earlier this year, so this is great news!

We get one lone blue element:

  • 13x Technic Brick 1 x 1 with Axle Hole in Dark Azure (6446031 | 73230)
And finally, a couple of recoloured minifigure accessories to round things off:

  • 1x Briefcase in Flat Silver (6451017 | 4449)
  • 3x Headwear Accessory Visor Snow Goggles in Black (6457828 | 46304)

Sticker sheet

Avengers Tower includes 52 stickers spread over 2 sheets. Some may baulk over the number of stickers in an expensive collectors' item, but the graphic designer on this set, LEGO Senior Graphic Designer Mark Tranter has done a wonderful job with creating plenty of fun jokes and Easter eggs for fans to pore over.

The first sheet has 31 opaque stickers, and provides us with most of the laughs. Highlights include callbacks to the Avengers movies, like the imprint of a Hulk-smashed Loki or the graphic on Nick Fury's pager. There are also a few meta references like the cover of Avengers Issue 1 which sees the team fight off Loki - very apt for this set!

The second sheet contains 21 transparent stickers; fewer jokes on this one as the designs are mostly used to detail computer screens and such like. I love the Vita Rush sticker- a fun detail to properly integrate this into LEGO City.

Rare elements

Classifying rare elements as those appearing in 3 other sets or fewer produces the following list.

New minifigure elements

Avengers Tower includes a record-breaking 31 minifigures: the most in a single LEGO set. There are loads of rare prints among that huge line up: almost too many to list, so we'll focus on the new elements.

Hulk

There are 2 new minifigure-centric moulds; actually they are new bigfig elements:

  • 1x Body Giant, Hulk with head pin in Olive Green (6437822)
  • 1x hair in Black (6430626)
This unique bigfig body features chiselled abs to represent a suitably hulking physique. Bigfig versions of Hulk have appeared in the past, but this is the first time he features a moving head, so we get a recoloured bigfig head with a new print to match:
  •  Bigfig Head with print in Olive Green (6437765 | 79435)
It’s a big improvement to make Hulk more poseable with a head that can look side to side. But most importantly, the removable head is compatible with a minifigure and opens up some new building options for custom figures:

I was absolutely delighted to see that there was an Olive Green Hulk that appeared in a polybag back in 2015. I just had to make a quick Bricklink order!

The hands are also listed with new element IDs: Right (6459214 | 10126) and Left (6459215 | 10127), though I don't think they differ from the previous iteration of the mould that appeared back in 2020. The Olive Green bigfig arms haven't appeared since 2020 either.

MOC using new Hulk elements

The Hulk figure is the first bigfig in my collection so I was keen to take a closer look at some of its unique elements. I thought the smooth contours of the arms might make for a nice microscale landscape but building in that genre is definitely not in my comfort zone. I twisted that idea to create a mossy base for this bonsai tree.

I used a Dewback Lower Jaw (6316604 | 16873) to help fill out some of the moss on the base. In a happy accident, I even found a use for the Hulk hand to keep one of the roots in position.

Other new minifigure elements

There are 12 more figures sporting a new element in some form, be it a new mould, recolour, or simply a new print.

Another new element in Avengers Tower is a printed plastic sheet to provide Vision with a cloak and Wasp with a set of wings:

  • 1x Wings and Cape Foil Sheet (6453310)
Here they are on their respective figures:

I love the almost ethereal effect for the Vision figure, created by pairing the cape with newly printed transparent legs. The head and torso are also new:
  • 1x Head with new print in Dark Turquoise (6437776)
  • 1x Torso with new print in Dark Turquoise (6458416)
  • 1xLegs with new print in Dark Turquoise (6437778)
Wasp also gets a new torso print as well as a new decoration for her helmet:
  • 1x Helmet with Antennae and Headphones with print in Flat Silver (6448897)
  • 1x Torso with new print in Dark Blue (6458407)

Ultron, the villain of Avengers: Age of Ultron is an all new figure with new head, torso, and leg printing, as is Helen Cho, the scientist who had a hand in creating him. She just gets a new torso, however.

Ultron

  • 1x Head with new print in Dark Blue (6437770)
  • 1x Torso with new print in Pearl Titanium/ Pearl Dark Grey (6458433)
  • 1x Legs with new print in Pearl Titanium/ Pearl Dark Grey (6437772)

Helen Cho

  • 1x Torso with new print in Bright Light Blue (6458100)

Iron Man's Mark VI armour is another all-new figure. A more intact version of the mark VI appeared twice, in 2012 and 2013. This battle damaged version represents the suit after Tony Stark repairs the Helicarrier propellors in the original Avengers movie.
  • 1x Headwear Accessory Visor Top Hinge with print in Dark Red (6437766)
  • 1x Torso with new print in Dark Red (6458075)
  • 1x Legs with new print in Dark Red (6437768)

As well as his famous Iron Man suits, Tony Stark appears in a number of other guises in Avengers Tower:

A new print has been created to recreate the disguise worn to recover the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame. It also features on 2 other SHIELD agent minifigures:
  • 3x Torso with new print in Dark Blue (6458974)

Falcon is a brand new figure replete with new prints. He shares a common leg print with Black Widow and Hawkeye:
  • 3x Legs with new print in Black (6437764)
  • 1x Head with new print in Reddish Brown (6437761)
  • 1x Torso with new print in Dark Bluish Grey (6458111)
As well as new legs, Hawkeye has a new torso design and a recoloured hair element:
  • 1x Torso with new print in Pearl Titanium/ Pearl Dark Grey (6457952)
  • 1x Hawkeye hair in Dark Tan (6444360)
Hawkeye's bow in Black (6450613 | 3748) is also worth mentioning. It's a rare element only available with the Marvel Studios Series 2 collectible minifigure.

Last but certainly not least, a special figure has been created for this set:

Kevin Feige, the man responsible for bringing the Marvel Cinematic Universe together, is immortalised as a LEGO minifigure. He wears a trademark baseball cap which emblazoned with an Avengers logo. Surprisingly the generic looking head print is a new print too:
  • 1x Hat / Cap Short Curved Bill with Seams and Hole on Top with Avengers logo print in Dark Blue (6437773)
  • 1x Head with new print in Light Nougat (6437769)
  • 1x Torso with new print in Dark Blue (6458965)
The new hat will also be available in the accompanying Gift With Purchase, 5008076 Marvel Taxi.

Closing Thoughts

Avengers Tower includes a nice selection of recoloured elements and a generous amount of rare elements, but that isn't the reason to builders will want to pick up this set: the finished model is far greater (and taller!) than the sum of its parts. We'll take a look at that in our build review, coming soon. There's also that extensive minifigure line-up- many of which are currently exclusive to the set- which is sure to entice Marvel fans.

76269 Avengers Tower is available priced US$499.99 / AU$759.99 / £429.99 / €499.99 / CA$669.99 from 24 November 2023. Please consider using our affiliate links, we may get a small commission if you purchase:

    1. Yeah, they're the same. The minifig selection is pretty good but it's a bit of a shame there are so many repeats. It would have been nice to see the rest of the OG Avengers Not just Iron Man get a bit of special treatment. But maybe that's something to talk about more in the Build Review!
