LEGO® Icons review + MOC: 10328 Bouquet of Roses

Posted by Eero

The Botanical Collection is a subtheme of LEGO® Icons that features relatively affordable sets. In reality, similar life-size botanical subjects have found their way to other LEGO themes, too, including LEGO® Creator and, surprisingly, LEGO® Disney Princess sets. For me, these sets appeal as beautiful models. However, I'm foremost a MOC maker, and they are very good material for own creations – they include usually many of the same pieces, often in bright colours and sleek, organic shapes.

The Botanical Collection often features many species, with differing colours, but set 10328 Bouquet of Roses focuses on strong red romanticism. How does it score with a MOC builder like me, and what did its pieces inspire me to build?

I've stripped down the parts in the LEGO® Icons set 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole, got myself revved up, and built it. Today I'm taking a look its clever construction, and speaking with its lead designer, Sven Franic. I even took it for a bit of a respray in the 'shop!

LEGO® Icons review: 10338 Bumblebee

Posted by Alex Campos

I was highly sceptical when the rumours of a LEGO® Optimus Prime first surfaced: two of the largest toy-making rivals cooperating? I'd certainly get hit in the face by a flying pig before that! It turned out set 10302 Optimus Prime was very real and I need to be on the lookout for airborne swine. Now lightning strikes twice and another famous Transformers character gets the LEGO treatment, namely 10338 Bumblebee. This means plenty of yellow elements to play with.

A few new elements from set 10338 Bumblebee arranged on a table to resemble Bumblebee.

LEGO® Icons parts review: 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole

Posted by Kev Levell
The Lamborghini Countach represents perhaps the pinnacle of 1980s iconic sports car design. Exciting angles, crisp edges and subtle curves all balance perfectly in the epitome of the classic wedge-shaped sports car.

Various Lego pieces on a table. Many are white and dark red.

First seen in 1971 and available to buy from 1974, the Countach was designed by Marcello Gandini and had a style that endured in popularity over a 16-year production run that spanned six standard models. Of the six, perhaps the most iconic variant is the 5000QV, and it is that which LEGO® Icons has decided to reimagine in brick form, in set 10337 Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole.

Hear ye, hear ye! The fan-favorite LEGO® Castle System has returned once again in the form of LEGO® Icons 10332 Medieval Town Square. The set was released at the start of March, and marketed as a reimagining of 2009's 10193 Medieval Market Village, and a companion set to 10305 Lion Knights' Castle.

Considering the excellence of these previous sets, we were eager to examine 10332 Medieval Town Square to see how it compares!

Let's take a trip back in time as we build LEGO® Icons set 10334 Retro Radio. Stay tuned – as this is a time before the pause button or replay!

LEGO® Icons review: 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna

Posted by Zachary Hill

Few Formula 1 cars have ever come close to the dominance displayed by the McLaren MP4/4. In the 1988 season, teammates Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost drove the cars to win the World Constructors' Championship with more than triple the points of their closest competitor; a feat never again seen in F1.

This legendary car and its drivers have been immortalized in many forms, but 10330 McLaren MP4/4 & Ayrton Senna is its first time as a LEGO® set. It's also the first LEGO® Icons car to include a minifigure. Their scales don't match but display stands are included for both and nothing's stopping you from putting tiny Senna in the larger car. Several new moulds and printed elements form the wheels, suspension, bodywork and iconic helmet. Even in a bare-bones F1 car, some areas such as the engine bay still pack in the detail expected of LEGO Icons vehicles.

LEGO® Icons build review: 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter

Posted by Zachary Hill

The definition of Frank Herbert's Dune series may be found in its myriad of sophisticated analogue technology. Of all this tech, ornithopters are arguably the most iconic. Their dragonfly-like movements provide relatively safe passage over the treacherous sands of the desert planet Arrakis and are a key pillar of the House Atreides "desert power."

Their rhythmic undulations are no longer a thing of science fiction with the release of LEGO® Icons 10327 Dune Atreides Royal Ornithopter. While the hefty set doesn't fly, it doesn't let down fans who have long yearned to see 'thopter wings move in complex reality. With an overview of the sand-skipping ornithopter's parts and minifigures completed, New Elementary swoops in again for a look at this fascinating set's build and functions.

The expansive Dune universe has expanded into LEGO® form and to make that happen, new parts must flow as the spice does. 10327 Atreides Royal Ornithopter reaches wide with impressive wings and comes with equally prolific minifigures, each navigating the sands in detailed and newly printed garb. Today we take a look at the new parts and minifigures within.

LEGO® Icons parts review: 10326 Natural History Museum

Posted by tobymac

We are nearing the end of the year; traditionally the time LEGO showcases their next Modular Buildings set, and this time it's arriving a month earlier. With an impressive lineup of 17 previous sets (18 if you count 10190 Market Street), the bar is set high, but we are in for a real treat this time with a field trip to 10326 Natural History Museum. Before we enter the exhibition to study the models on display in Part 2, we will first have a closer look at all the new elements found in this set.
