Parts review: August 2025 LEGO® Technic sets

Posted by tobymac

August is very near, bringing us five additions to the LEGO® Technic 2025 lineup. The new arrivals are a nice mix: we are treated to two standard cars in 42212 Ferrari FXX K and 42213 Ford Bronco SUV; a remote-controlled vehicle 42214 Lamborghini Revuelto Super Sports Car; a trip to the moon with 42211 Lunar Outpost Moon Rover Space Vehicle; and we move mountains with the massive 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator

dozens of new Technic Lego bits

This variety of models is bound to bring a variety of new elements as well. I’ve counted 49 elements worth a closer look, so let's get started.

This article contains a complete overview of all the new elements in this group of sets. In later articles, I’ll be building most of the sets to see how these elements are utilised, and determine if it's worth considering a purchase.

New molds

The sets bring 8 new molds, along with 3 in the new-ish category.

Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 1 x 3 (6618) and Technic, Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 4 Half Circle (6616)

The ever-growing lineup of LEGO Technic cars is a continual source of new mudguards, and this wave is no exception.

6 red technic arch pieces

4 black technic mudguards
  • Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 4 Half Circle in Black (6508524 | 6616), found 4x in 42213 Ford Bronco SUV

red arch and black mudguard combined – their curves match perfectly

The black panel fits underneath the arch of the red panel, similar to how Technic Panel Car Mudguard 13 x 2 x 5 (71689) fits underneath Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 13 x 2 x 5 Arched Top (69911). Of course these parts went into hiding somewhere in my collection when I wanted to make a comparison photo.

red technic arch compared to round lego plate

The arch of the red panel has a slightly wider diameter than a LEGO® System curve of 8 modules diameter such as this 4x8 semicircle plate (22888).

the red and black pieces compared to a similar white technic arch, nearly identical to the red

To the untrained eye, the wide variety of mudguards can feel random at times, so I’m happy to find there is a precedent for this addition: the red panel is similar in width, height and arch to Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 3 (42531, seen above in white) but flat and just 1 module deep instead. Its identical arch means the 42531 also matches the curve of the new black panel.

Technic Panel 3 x 3 Triangle (6613)

technic lego piece shaped like a right angled triangular wedge

The other new panel in the group is Technic Panel 3 x 3 Triangle, appearing 6x in black (6558403 | 6613) and 6x in yellow (6508521 | 6613) in 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator. This small panel features two axle holes on the short sides of the triangle, and a pin hole in the right-angled corner of the triangular surfaces.

a black and a yellow triangular technic wedge panel joined to make a square, and compared to a 3x3 module technic frame

The mold is a nice complement to Technic Connector Beam 3 x 3 (39793), seen above in dark bluish grey,  but has a smoother surface on show, with the option to combine different colors. Note that I used a bar to connect the yellow and black panel.

closeup showing how axles go into the triangular wedge, connecting them together

The reason I used a bar is because the axle holes feature a block at the center, allowing axles only to go in 1 module deep from the side. This prevents the joining of two triangles into a square with a sturdy connection.  I’m curious about the reasoning behind this choice – perhaps connecting along this edge is likely to send constructions off-grid.

4 technic wedges making a square

The blockage means that although you can use 2L axles to create a larger square, you’ll be left without connection points on the sides, relying only on the pin holes on the surface.

inserting various lego pits into the unusual hole on the long edge of the triangular wedge, which contains no standard connection points

A bar or rigid hose does fit through the block, but the resulting connection allows for rotation. The center is just over 1.5 plates wide, fitting the flat side of a bar holder, providing some potential. The tap piece or angled bar piece can provide an antistud or stud at the longer side of the triangle, but to make it center, the part can’t be inserted all the way in, making it a bit wobbly.

Wheel 7 x 7 with Center Axle Hole, 6 Pin Holes, Curved Spokes (7230)

beautiful large white Technic lego wheels. The centre is a typical technic wheel with 6 pin holes in a hexagonal arrangement, but the spokes are highly unusual. They spread out like 6 branches, each forking twice until it meets the neighboring branch at the rim. the overall depth of the wheel is dish shaped.

The mold the New Elementary team seems most excited about is a new wheel rim, found 4x in white (6530010 | 7230) on the Moon Rover in 42211 Lunar Outpost Moon Rover. Caz is already planning an expansion of her Kepler 42D Outpost microscale MOC featuring this futuristic mold.

side view of the large white technic wheel showing its width and depth.

The wheel is 7 modules in diameter, with the encompassing rim measuring a smidge under 2 plates in height. The center sits on a different plane, resulting in an overall height of 4 plates.

2 images. one showing the 7230 wheel with various small Lego bits placed loosely between its spokes, the other with large wheel treads placed around the rim.

The various triangular and onion-shaped holes between the exotic, branch-like spokes can fit various items, but without any clutch.

The diameter fits 14-link treads (88323, 42479).

the wheel placed within a round window made of lego arch bricks, however it is too small and lays unconnected

The wheel would make a great window, and with various transparent colors behind it would create a stained-glass rose window. Unfortunately, the odd-number dimensions of LEGO Technic elements meant I was unable to find a good matching LEGO® System curved arch to fit around it.

Bar 4 x 2 x 2 with 2 Prongs, Axle (7574)

Where the wheel was met with enthusiasm by the team, this element was met with a resounding ‘what the heck?’.

a Y shaped lego piece where each prong is angled. The three prongs form the peak of an irregular tetrahedron. The longest prong has a lego technic axle connector. A second image shows the piece glowing in the dark.

The mold can be found 2x in glow-in-the-dark white in 42214 Lamborghini Revuelto Super Sports Car. Its geometry seems to have a specific function in mind – the iconic headlights – rather than filling a gap within any existing categories of elements.

However, the measurements are not completely random.

Fitting the axle end in a LEGO Technic brick on top of another brick leaves the prongs touching the ground neatly exactly 4 modules away.

The prongs fit a triangle sign with clip (65676) perfectly, so there the part is designed with the LEGO System in mind. Still, a weird one to be sure.

Technic Digger Bucket 10 1/2 x 9 x 14 with 5 teeth (6619)

The June 2025 LEGO Technic set 42209 Volvo L120 Electric Wheel Loader brought us a large digger bucket, as seen in Alex's parts review for the wave. The 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator is another Volvo set using a big bucket,  measuring 10 1/2 x 9 x 14 modules, appearing in black (6508527 | 6619).

a large yellow technic lego digger bucket sitting within an absolutely massive black one

The bucket is big enough to cradle the yellow 4 x 7 bucket (24120) like a little infant.

4 views of Technic Digger Bucket 10½ x 9 x 14 with 5 teeth (6619)

The bucket has a double 5 x 2 L-beam mounted on the back providing ample connection points. A new larger excavator bucket is welcome too, as it allows for larger-scaled models, but I always feel a bit torn by these big single-mold parts; could a brick-built version be a good alternative?

Tyre 55.9 x 22 (6620)

a pile of black Lego Tyres measuring 55.9 x 22mm (part 6620). A second picture compares the tyre with the smaller Tyre 43.2 x 22 ZR (44309)

The last ‘true’ new mold in the wave is a new tyre, found 5x in 42213 Ford Bronco SUV in black (6508528 | 6620). The tyre fits on various 30.4 x 20 rims; in this set, Wheel 30.4 x 20 without Pinholes, with Reinforced Rim (56145) is used.

In the image above left I've included a Tyre 43.2 x 22 ZR (44309) to show the larger size of this off-road version.

Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #4 Angled 135° (7427)

UPDATE: As per Zerobricks comment, I overlooked a new mold!

the arrowhead-shaped Lego Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #4 Angled 135° (part 7427), shown in red with a Ferrari horse logo and silver stripes printing.

Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #4 Angled 135° is a new addition to the 2-wide family of panels, appearing with print in red (6556040 | 7427) in 42212 Ferrari FXX K.

I didn't spot it at first, as it is pretty similar toTechnic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #3 Angled 157.5° (2457), seen below in blue.

3 pictures comparing Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #4 Angled 135° with the existing Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #3 Angled 157.5°. It is the same shape but a shallower angle. The 3rd pic shows both panels connected to axle connectors that perfectly match their angles.

Just as the blue panel marked #3 matches Technic connector #3, the new red panel marked #4 matches the angle of  32192 Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled #4. So, like its blue sibling, the new panel is basically a Technic connector with a wing.

With 5 more numbered Technic connectors in the family, the big question of course is: will these be allowed to spread their wings too?

New-ish molds

Hub, Powered Up 16 x 9 x 6 with 3 Motors, 6 Lights, No Ports (113926)

Last year, LEGO Technic introduced a new Powered Up hub with 3 motors built in (6460292 | 105203) along with a rechargeable battery (6538576 | 112443), presenting a ready-to-use base for remote controlled cars. So far, this hub is only used in 42176 Porsche GT4 e-Performance. New Elementary didn’t review this set, but I have examined the hub in a blog article on Rebrickable

new lego powered up motor and battery

Now, 42214 Lamborghini Revuelto Super Sports Car is the second set to feature the hub and battery. Or is it? As it turns out, both the hub and the battery have received an update. I’m not certain if the Lamborghini Revuelto is the first set to receive these updated parts, or if later copies of the Porsche GT4 contain them as well.

The images below show the old version on the left and the new version on the right.

comparisons of the old and new powered up batteries

The battery has received a new Element ID (6549588) and has 2 pin holes on one end.

comparing the old and new powered up hub in close up

Meanwhile, the hub with new element ID 6549603 features 2 shallow pin holes, lining up with the holes in the battery.

new lego powered up hub with battery attached by large orange lego technic pins

These pinholes allow for the battery to be secured in place with two pins. Why this update? Maybe it’s a new legal requirement, making it harder for small children to pull the battery out? Or maybe there were consumer complaints about the battery vibrating loose while driving the car?

All I know is I would rather have seen a firmware update allowing the hub to be connected to Pybricks.

Cable, Fiber Optics, Wide 9L

4 lego fibre optic cables

Not truly a new mold, but rather a new length of an existing fiber cable. It can be found 2x +2 spare in 42114 in Trans-Clear (6569366), used to transfer the light from the hub to the front and rear of the car.

Decorated elements

Among the five sets, only three new decorations can be found.

3 printed lego parts

Recolors

A total of 35 elements appear in new colors across the five sets.

dark grey lego macaroni pieces

It belongs in the "I can't believe this didn't exist yet" category. Great for greebling and spaceships.

2 red lego technic panels

2 lego technic parts
  • 2x Technic Beam 2 x 3 Thick [90° Offset Centre Beam Hole] in Black (6563620 | 3167), found in 42212 Ferrari FXX K
  • 2x Technic Pin Connector Perpendicular 2 x 4 Bent - Beam with 90 Hole Ø 4.8 in Red (6563617 | 11455, 29162), found in 42212 Ferrari FXX K

3 red technic lego connector bits

2 lego parts

5 orange lego parts

All the recolors to orange can be found in 42215 Volvo EC500 Hybrid Excavator:

  • 1x Bar Holder with Clip and 90° Angle (Mechanical Leg) in Orange (6551886 | 72869)
  • 2x Bar Holder with Hole and Bar Handle in Orange (6551698 | 23443, 49755)
  • 3x + spare Hose Rigid 3mm D. 5L / 4.0cm in Orange (6551719)
  • 2x Hose Rigid 3mm D. 9L / 7.2cm in Orange (6551718)
  • 3x Technic Beam 1 x 5 Thin with Axle Holes on Ends in Orange (6551715 | 11478, 44864)

long technic linear actuator tubes
The short linear actuator also appears in black in this set, but that version previously appeared in 42131 Cat D11 Bulldozer back in 2021.

Set 42214 Lamborghini Revuelto Super Sports Car is a great source of light bluish grey panels:

4 light grey lego technic panels
  • 1x Technic Panel Curved 5 x 7 Parallelogram Left in Light Bluish Gray (6575690 | 80267)
  • 1x Technic Panel Curved 5 x 7 Parallelogram Right in Light Bluish Gray (6575689 | 80268)
  • 4x Technic Panel Triangle 5 x 4 Left in Light Bluish Gray (6575691 | 80278)
  • 4x Technic Panel Triangle 5 x 4 Right in Light Bluish Gray (6575688 | 80274)
But wait, there's more in this set:

2 light grey technic panels

  • 4x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #3 Angled in Light Bluish Gray (6575687 | 2457)
  • 1x Technic Panel Fairing #9 Medium Triangle Smooth in Light Bluish Gray (6461849 | 2395)
  • 1x Technic Panel Fairing #10 Medium Triangle Smooth in Light Bluish Gray (6461851 | 2403)
And one more:

light grey lego technic arch

  • 2x Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 11 x 5 x 2, Arched Top in Light Bluish Gray (6575686 | 3538)

42212 Ferrari FXX K has a couple of grey ones too:

2 light grey technic link connector pieces

Exploring the moon requires a lot of treading about, so 42211 Lunar Outpost Moon Rover comes packed with tread links in 2 sizes.

many white technic chain treads

  • 52x + 2 spare Technic Link, Reinforced, with Beveled Edge in White (6557602 | 14696)

many large technic treads, in white

  • 56x Technic Link Tread Wide with Two Pin Holes, Reinforced in White (6535943 | 88323, 42479)
I suspect both sizes will find their way outside of LEGO Technic sets; for example they'd form a great base for arctic vehicles.

azure lego rubber lozenges with a connector on the bottom of each end

And those treads need grip to handle the dusty surface. Only previously seen in red in a LEGO® DACTA set and a service pack in 2013 through 2015, Rubber Technic Tread Attachment 1 x 3 finally gets a recolor for the first time, appearing 56x in Dark Azure (6550799 | 14149) in 42211 Lunar Outpost Moon Rover

When I shared this with Alex he made the point that we have waited so many years for a better colour than red – one that doesn't show dirt as easily – and now we get a colour that shows the dirtiness even more! Still, like the treads, this element will surely make its way into MOCs as greebling soon.

A few last recolors:

5 technic pieces

Conclusion

The five sets in this wave of LEGO Technic sets bring us many goodies. Car MOCcers will find use for the new flat panel, as it allows for cars with a straighter look, while bulk can be added with the mudguard. Aside from light bluish grey, they don’t get too many specific recolors though.

The new rims in the Moon Rover look interesting as well, both as their intended purpose as well as architectural usages. It mixes futuristic with a sort of alien organic feel.

The part I was most excited about, turned out to be less interesting than I hoped: the triangle panel seems limited in its use due to the connection points. Of course I expect you to prove me wrong with your creativity!

The real test will be of course finding out how all these new elements are being used in their models, so I’ll start building the sets next.

  1. I'll bet the roof on the Lego version of the Bronco leaks less than the real thing.

  2. Some really fun new molds and recolors here!

The new red wheel arches as well as the plethora of other red recolors almost has me tempted to come up with some Lego Atlantis MOCs. Red is a versatile color for Technic and the Atlantis theme made liberal use of Technic panels for its various submarines.

  3. Are you sure that the red Ferrari logo pannel from the 42122 is not a new mould? The angle looks different than the normal panel.

    2. so a #4 panel then?

    3. Mold number is 7427, and the angle matches Technic Connector #4, like the other matches #3.

  4. first saw that triangle panel leaked along with a new triangle corner roof part

  5. Disappointed the glowing prong sticks use the axle connection instead of being a regular bar piece. They'd be really cool for cryptid antlers or weird marine life spikes, but they'll be a little harder to use with the rigid connection.

    1. Thinking the same thing, also a glowing dead tree is what came to my mind first, not sure it’s possible with the axle connection though.
