New moulds

The smaller of the 2 LEGO DUPLO Bluey products, set 10458 contains 2 figures: Bluey and dad Bandit. Both are represented by new moulds:

front and rear views of the bluey and bandit duplo character figures
  • 1x Fig Bluey in Medium Blue (6536995)
  • 1x Fig Bandit in Medium Blue (6566890)
Just like the minifigure versions, the backs of the figures feature printed tails. The two remaining members of the Heeler family, Chilli and Bingo are found in the larger set, 10459 Bluey's Family House which we will come to in a moment.

It's not just the minifigures that are new; the Heelers' car also makes use of a new mould:

large reddish orange duplo car shell piece
  • 1x Vehicle Body in Reddish Orange (6541551)
This unique car frame has designed to fit the existing Car Chassis (24911), which has been recoloured to bright light blue (see below). This new mould captures the likeness of the Heelers' 4WD very well.

New prints

The set contains 3 new printed elements:

3 printed duplo bricks
  • 1x Duplo Brick 1 x 2 x 2 with Bottom Tube with Ice Cream Menu Print in White (6541554)
  • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 Slope 45° with Cash Register Print in Light Bluish Gray (6541552)
  • 2x Duplo Cone / Ice Cup with Ice Cream Cone print in Tan (6541553)
Some great new prints to help act out some exciting games of 'shops'! The megaphone/ cup element is an interesting solution for a cone.

The white brick features a print on both sides and I forgot to photograph the reverse. Check the image of the completed set to see the other side.

Recoloured parts

5 elements have been recoloured for Bluey's ice cream trip:

5 duplo pieces
  • 1x Duplo Car Base 4 x 8 with Four Black Wheels in Bright Light Blue (6537492 | 24911)
  • 1x Duplo Cake Swirl Decoration with Top Stud in Reddish Brown (6537501 | 18918)
  • 1x Duplo Cake Swirl Decoration with Top Stud in Bright Light Orange (6537499 | 18918)
  • 1x Duplo Brick 1 x 3 x 2 Round Top, Cut Away Sides in Bright Light Blue (6537456 | 14222)
  • 1x Duplo Umbrella / Parasol Top with Axle Hole [Plain] in Lavender (6537509 | 92002)
A nice selection of recoloured elements here. LEGO DUPLO figures can now enjoy 2 new ice cream flavours. I like the bright light blue round element which is used to represent the car's spare tyre. It's a nice detail that I didn't expect to see included in this basic set.

Rare pieces

The following currently appear in 3 sets or fewer:

3 duplo pieces
  • 1x Duplo Cake Swirl Decoration with Top Stud in Bright Pink (6537500 | 18918) last seen 2014
  • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 4 in Bright Light Orange (6537497 | 3011) last seen 2017
  • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 4 in Bright Pink (6537502 | 3011) last seen 2015

The finished model

The completed toy, 10458 Ice Cream Trip with Bluey playset

It looks like this set is inspired by the episode Ice Cream, where Bandit treats the girls to an ice cream in the park. The 3 flavours available at the stall even match the Heelers' order: mango, strawberry, and chocolate.

3 views of the Heeler Duplo car. In one picture the figures sit in the front and the back seat

It's a little unfortunate that there's no Bingo figure included in the set to properly recreate the events of the episode; however, there's only enough space in the car for 2 figures anyway.

Even without the Bingo figure, this set lends itself to some good roleplaying fun. My daughters are always playing shops and there are enough accessories here to facilitate some ice-cream based games of pretend.

    New mould

The figures in this set are Bluey, Bingo, and Chilli. The children share the same mould with different printing, as do the adults.

3 lego duplo figures : bluey, bingo and mum chilli
    • 1x Fig Bluey in Medium Blue (6536995)
    • 1x Fig Bingo in Orange (6536996)
    • 1x Fig Chilli in Orange (6559925)

3 new elements have been designed to facilitate the suggested play ideas in the set:

round disc with large central hole, seen from front and back. each side is divided into 3 pictures. On one side the pictures are of pairs of duplo bricks printed with toys being joined together to show the whole toy. On the other are Bluey characters each with a printed brick of food.
    • 1x Duplo Disc with double-sided Rugs, Duplo Bricks, and Bluey Characters print in White (6529876)
The disc is a thin but rigid plastic material, and measures 13 LEGO DUPLO modules in diameter.

top and bottom views of a large red bulging duplo arrow shaped brick. A large round white Duplo piece with raised round centre
    • 1x Duplo Arrow in Red (6530689)
    • 1x Duplo Round Base in White (6530687)
The bottom of the arrow has no anti-studs, so it can spin freely on top of the white base element.

    New printed pieces

12 elements feature new printed designs:

3 duplo bricks printed with foodstuff
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 x 2 with 3 Cupcakes print in Light Aqua (6541579)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 x 2 with Salad in Bowl print in Yellow (6541577)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 x 2 with Fruit Pavlova print in White (6541578)
The cupcakes look a lot like the ones appearing in the episode Shadowlands and the pavlova is, unsurprisingly, lifted from the episode Pavlova

3 pairs of printed duplo bricks that join to show kids toys and a drawing of bluey and bandit
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 with Floppy Top Half print in Bright Pink (6541572)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 with Floppy Bottom Half print in Bright Pink (6541571)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 with Xylophone Top Half print in Yellowish Green (6541574)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 with Xylophone Bottom Half print in Yellowish Green (6541573)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 with Bluey Sketchbook Top Half and Pens print in Lavender (6541576)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 with Bluey Sketchbook Bottom Half with Bluey and Bandit Child's Drawing print in Lavender (6541575)
These designs are split across 2 bricks, as part of the memory game play suggestion. The designs feature Bingo's favourite soft toy, Floppy as well as the Magic Xylophone (from the episode of the same name), and one of Bluey's sketches that bring to mind the episodes Perfect and Escape.

    3 printed duplo bits
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 4 Curved Top with Reddish Orange Roof print in Bright Light Yellow (6541569)
    • 1x Duplo Door / Window with Cutout (Semi Oval) with Windows print in White (6541568)
    • 2x Duplo Door / Window with Cutout (Semi Oval) with Door print in White (6541567)
The final 3 designs lend some important details to the exterior of the Heeler house.

    Recoloured parts

Twelve existing elements appear in new colours in this set.

Four are in bright light blue:

    4 light blue duplo bricks
    • 4x Duplo Brick 1 x 2 x 2 with Bottom Tube in Bright Light Blue (6537289 | 76371)
    • 2x Duplo Brick 2 x 2 x 2 in Bright Light Blue (6537288 | 31110)
    • 3x Duplo Brick 2 x 4 in Bright Light Blue (6537293 | 3011)
    • 1x Duplo Brick 2 x 8 in Bright Light Blue (6546457 | 4199)

    Four in reddish orange:

    4 reddish orange duplo pieces
    • 1x Duplo Plate Round 4 x 4 in Reddish Orange (6548838 | 98222)
    • 2x Duplo Brick 4 x 2 x 3 Slope 45° in Reddish Orange (6537268 | 49570)
    • 3x Duplo Building Door Frame 4 x 4 x 3 in Reddish Orange (6537265 | 11345)
    • 1x Duplo Cake Swirl Decoration with Top Stud in Reddish Orange (6537269 | 18918)

and 4 more in other colours:

    4 duplo pieces

    • 2x Duplo Plant, Flower with 1 Top Studs in Lime (6537270 | 84195)
    • 3x Duplo Chair with no Back / Stool in White (6548839 | 65273)
    • 3x Duplo Door / Lid, Wood Effect in Orange (6546450 | 98459)
    • 3x Duplo Building Door Frame 4 x 4 x 3 in Bright Light Yellow (6546459 | 11345)

This random and colourful selection of elements with variety in the shapes of brick is great for inspiring imagination in young builders, and also opens up some more building options for the adults playing alongside them!

    Rare pieces

The following appear in 3 sets or fewer:

    5 duplo parts
    • 1 x 92094 Duplo Door Frame 2 x 4 x 5 in Cool Yellow/ Bright Light Yellow (6294384 | 92094) in 3 sets

    The finished model

the completed toy, 10459 Bluey's Family House and Memory Game playset

Although obviously much simplified, the LEGO DUPLO model bears a pretty good resemblance to Bluey's house as it appears in the show. I particularly like the white stripe running across the bottom of the roof. I think this set might even have done a better job portraying the facade of Bluey's home than the LEGO 4+ version does (which I reviewed recently)

close up of the spinner from the memory game with associated bricks and figures

The instructions include a couple of play ideas that involve the new arrow and plastic disc. The instructions aren't super clear on how to play the game but I think they both involve hiding the printed bricks for your child to find and match, like a concentration game. It's a bit of gimmick and seems like the kind of game you'd play only once or twice.

facade and rear view of the back of the 10459 Heeler Family House

The set is seemingly designed around these activities so it's very one dimensional; there's no interior to act out scenes from the show, so the set doesn't offer an awful lot of play value in my view. My 1-year-old seemed to have some fun opening and closing the doors and hiding the figures inside but I think my 4-year-old would have preferred more of a challenge, and a kitchen or playroom to play with.

    Conclusion

While I was left a little underwhelmed by the Heeler house, with its lack of play functions and accessories, it's still a great looking set. The large number of bricks (many in new colours!) opens up new building possibilities and might provide the basis for a more complete version if supplemented by picks from your child's own collection.

The car, on the other hand, is not just a great looking model, but a neat little playset with enough interesting elements to act out a fun ice cream trip.

The prices of both sets seem to line up with the other similar offerings in the LEGO DUPLO catalogue, but I might be inclined to buy the sets that are more centred around encouraging kids' creativity, imagination, and building skills.

    1. It's a pity that this grea Duplo Arrow cannot be attached to anything... It looks so great

      1. Doesn't it?! I'd love to use it in a MOC, I'll have to experiment with how to integrate it into a LEGO build...
