Posted by Tom Loftus

In part 1 we analysed all the new moulds found in 11501 Tulip Bouquet and 11509 Flowering Cactus; now it's time to tackle the mountain of recolours they contain, plus those found in 11504 Peace Lily and 11508 Daisies... not forgetting the beautiful builds themselves of course!

11508 Daisies

Parts

Despite being the smallest set of the wave, 11508 Daisies is not to be overlooked. Chiefly because it's among the first sets to feature a brand-new colour: 431 Blue Violet!

It comes in the form of a generous 18x Plant, Sunflower 2 x 2 with 16 Petals (6584690 | 6901).

Joining them are 24x Plant, Round 3 x 3 - 3 Leaves in White (6584499 | 7264) - also an exclusive recolour.

The new colour 431 Blue Violet is very similar to 219 Lilac, a retired colour used between 2004 and 2006. 112 Medium Bluish Violet was introduced in 1999 with LEGO® DUPLO® Little Forest Friends, and last used around 2004/5 when it was replaced by 219 Lilac.  It seems the new colour 431 Blue Violet has been introduced to fill the gap between the blues and the purples.

Considering the set has just 133 parts, the ratio of noteworthy elements to standard ones is pretty high. These are the remaining parts of interest:
  • 5 x Technic Axle 16 in Bright Green (6546387 | 69732) - Found in 1 other set, 10347 Petite Sunny Bouquet
  • 3 x Plant, Round 3 x 3 - 3 Leaves in Bright Green (6549013 | 7264) - Found in 4 other 2025 sets yet still has an air of newness.
  • 2x Pneumatic Hose Connector with Axle Connector in Bright Green (6578887 | 99021) - New for 2026, also found in 11501 Tulip Bouquet
  • 3x Tile Round 2 x 2 with print in Yellow (6584688 | 14769pr) - Exclusive print

Completed set

With it's modest part count, and several repeated assemblies, 11508 Daisies takes a matter of minutes to complete. The finished result is greater than the sum of its parts, but you will need a container of some sort to get the full effect.

The ladybird is a great finishing touch; it adds so much charm even though it's just a couple of pieces.

11509 Flowering Cactus

Parts

We've already discussed this trio of new moulds in part 1, but to briefly recap, the Flowering Cactus contains:
  • 1x 3x3 Ring in Sand Green (6562752 | 7610)
  • 2x Bracket 1 x 2 - 2 x 2 centred in Black (6563402 | 7694)
  • 2x Plate round corner 2 x 2 in Reddish Brown (6587312 | 7904)

Now for the exclusive recolours:

Bright Light Blue

  • 4x Slope 45° 2 x 4 with 2/3 Inverted Cut out and no Studs (6579052 | 5540)
  • 8x Brick Round Corner 4 x 4 x 1 with Bottom Cut Outs, No Studs, Flat Top (6594975 | 5649)
  • 8x Slope 45° 2 x 1 with 2/3 Inverted Cut out and no stud (6582148 | 28192)

Sand green

  • 32x Slope Double 45° 1 x 1 (6579025 | 35464)
  • 4x Crown / Flower / Egg Shell Half (6582149 | 39262)

Magenta

  • 1x Plate Special 2 x 2 with Bar Frame Round (6586621 | 7068)
  • 4x Road Sign Clip-on 2.2 x 2.667 Triangular (6586622 | 30259)
  • 8x Arm Mechanical Straight (Droid) [2 Clips at 90°] (6586620 | 59230)

Dark Pink

  • 8x Shield Triangular (6579030 | 3846)

Techniques

A simple stud-reversal technique using the new brackets connects the pot together. Four studs doesn't seem enough to do the job, but the pot feels sturdy nonetheless; as do the cacti themselves with their 8-sided LEGO® Technic skeletons.

Placing 32 spines, represented by small plant stems (68211), was a painful experience, but wins the set some points for authenticity!

Completed set

The robot arms and bright yellow gear make the large flower look a bit mechanical up-close, but take two steps back and the shapes and colours blend much more convincingly. Unfortunately the same can't be said about the pot's stud notches which remain stubbornly visible no matter how hard you squint. These doesn't bother me that much, though - it is made of LEGO bricks after all.

Overall, I'm pleasantly surprised with this one. It's peppered with more new and interesting parts than meets the eye. Other sets in the LEGO Botanicals line at this price point have greater shelf presence, but the cactus's assembly process lives up to the theme's promise of providing a contemplative build experience – minus the toll inflicted on one's fingertips by the spines!

11504 Peace Lily

Parts

Key details in the peace lily rely heavily on some exclusive recolours:

White

  • 2x Plant, Leaf 2 x 6 x 1 with 2 Studs in White (6578975 | 3565)
  • 2x Plant, Leaf/Petal 4 x 6 x 1 1 / 3 in White (6578921 | 7096)

Light Nougat

  • 64x Brick Curved 1 x 1(6586751 | 7126)
  • 32x Brick Curved 2 x 4 Double, No Studs, with Groove (6578919 | 6192b)

Bright Green

  • 6x Brick Round 1 x 1 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes (Crossholes) at Each End (6584654 | 7324)
  • 6x Pneumatic T-Piece (T Bar) [New Style] (6527026 | 4697b)
  • 4x Technic Beam 1 x 3 Thin (6573944 | 6632)

Bright Light Yellow

  • 2x Plant, Carrot (6578999 | 33172)

Here are all the rare parts, appearing in 2 other sets or less:

  • 9 x Windscreen 10 x 6 x 2 Curved in Dark Green/ Green (6489205/6497055 | 35337)
  • 4 x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled #5 - 112.5° in Earth Green/ Dark Green  (6515241 | 41488)
  • 5 x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled Triple - 60° in Bright Green (6545176 | 7329)
  • 18 x Brick Round Corner, Curved 3 x 3 x 1 Quarter Circle in Dark Green/ Green (6401286 | 76797)

Techniques

The pot is almost identical to the one in 10311 Orchid, just with rounded coverings instead of angular ones. It's a solid technique for large cylinders, so the re-use is justified, but owners of the Orchid probably won't get a whole lot out of the first half of the build.

The remainder of the set comes together quickly, with visual bulk generated fast by the (primarily) single-piece leaves.

Completed set

Using three 'flower' styles to show different developmental stages is a great touch – those recolours were definitely worth it. Using LEGO Technic half beams to strengthen the stems is sensible, but they look a tad inorganic up-close. The variation of leaf sizes is nice as well, though I find the large ones tend to break off a bit too easily.

I'm not too fond of the light nougat used for the pot. Combined with the vibrant greens of the plant itself, it makes the set feel a bit over-bright to my eyes. I think I would've preferred a muted colour like tan or dark tan.

Despite my grumblings (many of which simply come down to personal preference), I'm still pleased to see this popular houseplant in LEGO form.

11501 Tulip Bouquet

The explosion of colour that is the Tulip Bouquet doesn't disappoint when it comes to the parts selection. Let's start with another quick recap of the new moulds we discussed in part 1:

1x3 Leaf (7905)

  • Red (6593170)
  • Yellow (6593169)

4x5 Triple curved shell / "VW Beetle Bonnet" (7613)

  • Bright Pink (6578888)
  • Dark Purple (6578889)
  • Red (6595576)
  • Yellow (6578890)

Exclusive recolours next, all 11 of them!

Bright Pink

  • 18x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle (6578897 | 5852)
  • 9x Sports Surfboard Standard (6578905 | 90397)

Dark Purple

  • 6x Shield Ovoid [Plain] (6578904 | 2586)
  • 12x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle (6578903 | 5852)

Bright Green

  • 8x Brick Arch 1 x 5 x 3 1/3 Curved Top (6578880 | 5845)
  • 8x Pneumatic Hose Connector with Axle Connector in Bright Green (6578887 | 99021)
  • 8x Plate Special 1 x 2 with Angular Extension and Flexible Tip [Plain] with print (6578881 | 61406pr)
  • 8x Wedge Curved 4 x 8 No Top Studs(6578891 | 5382)
  • 4x Sports Surfboard Standard(6578906 | 90397)
  • 5x Brick Round 1 x 1 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes (Crossholes) at Each End(6584654 | 7324)

Yellowish Green

  • 2x Cone 3 x 3 x 3 (Elliptic Paraboloid) with Internal Axle Hole (6584704 | 1744)

Brief side note: Did you know that the angle of a 2 x8 curved wedge (5382), 1 x 12 Hinge Plate with Angled Sides (57906) and 1 x 2 plate with Flexible Tip (61406pr) all match? Probably not a revelation for some, but we thought it was a neat bit of synergy between elements that are all employed as leaves in the LEGO Botanicals theme.

Back to the task in-hand, here are six lesser-seen elements found in 11501 Tulip Bouquet:
  • 2 x Brick Round 1 x 1 with 3 Bars in Black (6507603 | 6331)
  • 18 x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle in Yellow (6552224 | 5852)
  • 12 x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle in Red(6547139 | 5852)
  • 18 x Slope Curved 4 x 1 Double with No Studs in Bright Pink (6146822 | 93273)
  • 12 x Plant, Leaf/Petal 4 x 6 x 1 1 / 3 in Orange (6529198 | 7096)
  • 2 x Brick Round 3 x 3 Dome with Center Stud in Yellowish Green (6546047 | 49308)

Techniques

This bouquet doesn't have the most substantive build experience, but not all of the 12 fully-grown tulips are as repetitive as they look:

  • The orange variety is the most distinct with its open petals connected to a pair of 1 x 1 round bricks with 3 bars (6331).
  • Yellow and red are identical besides colour, a 1 x 1 plate with 3 bars and 3 holes (1941) at the core of each.
  • Pink is the most substantial and uses the recoloured surfboards to great effect. Note the use of the 1x2  ball joint plate as discussed in part 1.
  • The pair of purple flowers are my favourite. They way the shields slot onto the 1 x 1 round brick with 3 Bars (6331) is so neat.

Completed set

Tulips are an excellent choice of flower to render in LEGO form; their vibrant colours translate so well – helped by the new moulds and a pile of recolours of course!

The variety of leaf and flower designs prevent the assembly process and finished model from feeling too formulaic. Including some flowers yet to bloom was a good move too; the lighter green tempering the bold colours of its peers nicely.

Closing thoughts

I'm keen to see the 4x5 Triple curved shell / "VW Beetle Bonnet" (7613) used elsewhere. Despite its liberal use on the tulips, it surely has potential for lots more.

I find the builds a mixed bag: the cactus exceeded my expectations, while the peace lily fell a bit short. The tulips and daisies are stunning in different ways, yet both require a vessel to be fully appreciated.

Overall, I'm still satisfied with this line-up. The LEGO Botanicals theme continues to wow us with its generous quantities of recolours and new moulds. Photographing collections of elements can be tedious but that wasn't the case today because they were all just so pretty!
