Review: 40773 The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic GwP

Posted by Elspeth De Montes

Set 40773 The Goonies: The Walshes' Attic will be available as a Gift with Purchase (GwP) from 1 to 7 November 2025 with purchases of LEGO® Ideas set 21363 The Goonies, while stocks last. I have already reviewed set 21363 The Goonies but the GwP is an interesting little addition to the main set. Let's head to the attic!

Background

Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc © 2012

The attic in Mikey's house is a key location within the 1985 movie, The Goonies. Mikey's dad is the
curator of the Astoria Historical Museum and his attic stores quite a few antiques and artefacts. One-Eyed Willie's dusty map is first located within the attic, and the subsequent treasure hunt takes place after this initial scene.

New elements

There is one new element; a 2x6 printed tile exclusive to this set.

  • 1x Tile 2 x 6 with 'LEGO The Goonies' logo print in Black (6596475)

There are going to be some disappointed folks who buy set 21363 The Goonies but do not get this exclusive tile, once stocks have run out. If you're not already a member of the free LEGO® Insiders programme, be sure to sign up to LEGO Insiders before the 1st, for your best chance of obtaining the GwP.

Stickers

There are two small sticker sheets, with nice little references to the movie.

Stickers 2 and 4 are both framed images – the map and a newspaper clipping – but the lines that are supposed to look like reflections are not ideal. It looks more like a misprint to me.

Sticker 5 references Mouth's classic line spoken in a bad Italian accent to Mama Fratelli as she threatens them in her restaurant, The Lighthouse Diner.
I want the veal scallopini. I want a good fettuccine Alfredo. A bottle of fettuccine, 1981.

Sticker 6 is a LEGO version of the old painting Mouth finds in the attic and plays around with.

The memorable moment from the movie when Mouth sticks his tongue through the painting and asks for a 'lickery kiss' can be reenacted in LEGO form, but only if you have the Mouth minifigure from set 21363 The Goonies.

Minifigures

Excitingly, the GwP comes with two minifigures not included in set 21363 The Goonies.

They are Mikey's parents, Irving and Irene Walsh. Neither uses any exclusive elements but Mr Walsh's torso has only been used once before, in 76437 The Burrow, and Mrs Walsh's torso was exclusive to 76451 Privet Drive: Aunt Marge's Visit until now. Mr Walsh's head has also only been in one previous set, 21350 Jaws.

Mrs Walsh gets a couple of accessories: her tan scarf and bandaged arm (30924).

Build

The first bag builds the floor and one upright wall of the attic. There's plenty of little details added to the small space. You can see the doubloon that Mikey finds in the movie too, lying on the floor on the left.

The attic contains a ships wheel, q plasma ball, the two framed items, a partial suit of armour and more.

The second wall is attached to the the hinges on the base to make the angled attic shape. The addition of the chimney details makes this a cute model.

Conclusion

This is a great little GwP that adds further nostalgia and two more characters, but is not essential to own as there's no spot for it within the main set. It is more of a standalone model that can be displayed alongside.

Anyone who spends US$329.99/ £269.99/ 299.99€ on 21363 The Goonies will not be pleased if they miss out on this GwP with exclusive tile. I can already hear the complaints when the inevitably limited stock runs out, but I realise that The LEGO Group offer GwPs from a marketing point of view to encourage early sales of the set. At least the elements comprising the two minifigures are not exclusive to this GwP.

The attic scene is the source of a few memorable moments in the movie, not least when Chunk breaks the glass frame to allow One-Eyed Willie's map to be examined, and Mouth with his lickery antics. Note that Mikey, Chunk and Mouth are included in set 21363, not this GwP.

  1. How is the minifigure-skull attached to the armour's stand? I can't quite make out what that tan piece is, or does.
