The New Black - Jonas Kramm: Delicious Leftovers

Posted by Admin
He's been astonishingly prolific but today we have the final contribution from Jonas Kramm to The New Black, our celebration of new LEGO® parts.

After talking about lamps, fences, furniture, Venice and the Alien, you get now the leftovers that did not fit into one of these categories but could be of interest nevertheless. My first is a small tree in autumnal colours that makes use of the bar holders with clip (Element ID 6015891 | Design ID 11090) and the new bar holder with handle (6143318 | 23443) for the trunk. These connect to each other via pneumatic T-pieces and, in addition, strings make the structure look more organic.

Next is a medieval-inspired well. As Chris McVeigh has already shown here on New Elementary, the new shield tile (Element ID 6128992 | Design ID 22385) can be used perfect for roofing shingles. [Note from Ed: In fairness I must point out Jonas sent me his version before Chris did! Great minds think alike...] Also worth a mention is that the recently re-coloured cattle horn in Dark Green [TLG]/Green [BL] works great for brick-built plants.

The attentive observer may have recognized that I did not use all seed parts yet: For example the 1X3X2 inverted arch/bow (Element ID 6154860 | Design ID 18653). In my eyes the element looks like an elegant serif, so I built letters.

Here's how I achieved the rotations.

Back in August I was working on a series of microscale castles from Game of Thrones. At the time at which the parts for The New Black challenge reached me I was working on this clockwork Winterfell and as the luck would have it the new spear tip in Black (Element ID 6135009 | Design ID 24482) blends in perfectly as microscale trees.

You can see its simple mechanism working at the very end of the Alien video Tim and I made in Skærbæk.

And with this build I finish my contributions to The New Black series. I’m deeply grateful to Tim for this opportunity. It was a lot of fun and I really had a blast building all these smaller and bigger ideas. I hope you enjoyed it as well.

I’m sure I will use this great selection of new elements a lot in the future and if you want to stay up to date on my ideas and be one of the first to see my upcoming Game of Thrones series, feel free to follow me on Flickr and Instagram.

And thanks to you too Jonas, your dedication has been extraordinary! I'm sure everyone will agree when I say that your posts have been hugely inspiring, educational and entertaining. I'm humbled that they have been created for New Elementary.

    1. I'm trying to figure it out, I guess it's a blue lever small base (4592), with the slot turned from view, a blue plume feather (4502c), a dark red minifig hand (983) and a dark red mechanical claw (48729), the latter which seems to be a quite rare test part...
