Review: 43304 Blaze's Horse Ranch from LEGO® Disney

Posted by Elspeth De Montes

Hey howdy hey! With Toy Story 5 due for release in June 2026, it will not come as a surprise that the relationship between the Toy Story franchise and The LEGO Group endures. Set 43304 Blaze's Horse Ranch from LEGO® Disney is aimed at younger fans aged 4+, who will perhaps be encountering Woody and his friends for the first time in the upcoming movie.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we'll cover the recolours and new prints as well as a closer look at both the new characters and returning favourites in their LEGO forms.

The first LEGO® Toy Story sets were released in 2010, but 43304 Blaze's Horse Ranch is a tie-in set specific to the upcoming Toy Story 5 (are we really on 5!?) due for release in June 2026. It is a little tricky to relate the model and new characters in this review to a movie we have not yet seen.

The film's premise is that the central child, Bonnie gets a "Lily Pad" tablet which distracts her from playing with her physical toys, resulting in an attempt to save Bonnie from excessive screen time. Woody re-assigned the Sheriff badge to Jessie in Toy Story 4 when he left them to join a group of abandoned toys, but Jessie brings Woody back to help them save Bonnie from the perils of tech.

Cast of characters

At first glance it might seem that Woody and Jessie are the same minifigures as appeared in 43264 Toy Story Celebration Train & RC Car, but there's a new sheriff in town! To accompany our favourite horse-lovin', ranch-livin' couple, we have a slightly altered Bullseye and a new pig.

Woody

The only element that differs from the Woody minifigure in 43264 Toy Story Celebration Train & RC Car is the torso     (6622331) is a new print as Woody is no longer wearing his sheriff badge!

Jessie

The only element that differs from the Jessie minifigure in 43264 Toy Story Celebration Train & RC Car is the torso. Torso with shirt and sheriff badge in White (6622201) is a new print, at least we know who the new sheriff in town is!

In the set, Jessie gets a yellow bow to complete her look.

Bullseye

  • Animal, Horse 'Bullseye' with print in Medium Nougat (6634917 | 44785)

The new Bullseye has the same Design ID 44785 as the one from 2010 , but his printing is slightly different.  In 7597 Western Train Chase and 7594 Woody's Roundup!, Bullseye had reddish brown print for his hooves as you can see in the image above. Also, his ears had a light nougat print and his eyelids were lowered unlike this wide-eyed look and no ear printing in the 2026 version.

PIG - name to come

  • Pig with print in Black (6603364 | ) this is both a recolour and a new print.
  •  The pig has appeared before in bright pink and nougat with various prints, but this print is new and looks like chalk scribbles.

    The build

This is a 4+ set so the instructions are in multiple smaller booklets with simplified approach for little hands that are moving on from Duplo.  There are no tricky techniques in this 4+ set but also no stickers, which is always a bonus.

Bag 1 contains the swing with a little hiding spot for a box containing a coin.  There's a fence to make a makeshift paddock for the bright pink foal.

Bag 2 contains a trough and a small pig sty home, with the table all set ready for a cup of tea. As you can see, each of these minibuilds have two technic pins that will allow connection in a modular style.

Bag 3 is the stable area for Bullseye and the My Little Pony style medium lavender foal. The young builders will enjoy the 'horse poo' as this is peak comedy for 4-5 year olds.

Bag 4 is the final bag that creates the pitched roof of the stable, that can also be used on the ground as a hay storage area.

Once all the bags have been build, the areas can be connected to complete the stable and roof with the pig sty home and the trough at either edge.

    Minifigure discussion

    ©2010  The LEGO Group

The original Toy Story minifigures were released in 2010 and included Woody and Jessie minifigures with shaped heads and wonderfully long legs. Similar long legs with a slight mould update were later used for some of the Avatar minifigures, Dr Eggman and Madame Olympe Maxime.

    Woody

LEGO really went all in for the first Woody minifigure in 2010 with his special head/hat mould , long legs with printed belt and boots including side printing.  No expense was spared to create the ultimate Woody.

A new Woody minifigure with dual moulded blue/dark orange legs appeared in 10767 Duke Caboom's Stunt Show and 10766 Woody & RC, both from 2019.  The same version returned in a 2023 set, 43212 Celebration Train and you can read our review LEGO® Disney™ review: 43212 Celebration Train for more details. This Woody had the belt placed onto the torso print instead and used dual moulded regular legs in blue with dark orange. His head changed to a regular minifigure head with printing, which necessitated a new hair/hat mould in dark orange (49514).

Finally,  there are two Woody variants in 40774 Classic Animation Scenes and 43264 Toy Story Celebration Train & RC Car. The only difference in the  two minifigures is a different head print.

The dissolution of Woody is complete, the sad move from the long printed legs, to dual moulded blue/dark orange legs and finally plain blue legs means that Woody is now a cosplayer of his original minifigure.

    Jessie

Even just comparing the Jessie minifigure legs from 2019 and the current legs used in both 2025 and 2026 sets shows a negative change in my opinion. On the left, the 2019 minifigure uses dual moulded legs with the cow print, while on the right the legs are blue with cow print and 'boots'. I dont know for sure but in my mind using a dual moulded element would be more costly, perhaps a more complex moulding process taking longer and costing more?

    Conclusion

Remember this is a 4+ set, so from that point of view it hits the mark with a range of minifigures to play with that tie in to a movie. There's some storytelling play features with a tea party, swing, hidden box, horses in stables with wheelbarrow with hay.

From an adult point of view, the minifigures are probably the main draw.  Certainly it helps lower the cost of getting a Bullseye, Jessie or Woody but it feels like these newer minifigures are a step down in quality and accuracy from the originals.  I don't want to be too cynical but the obvious rationale for less prints and less dual-moulded elements is cost saving measures.  This makes me sad.

With the set costing $49.99 / €49.99 / £44.99 for 209 pieces, we get a price per piece of 24¢/24c/22p which is definitely on the high side to say the least but 6 characters are included in the set. It's impossible to recommend the set to adults but I can imagine it being given as a gift to a younger child who loved the movie.
