Review: August 2025 LEGO® One Piece sets

Posted by Thomas Jenkins

LEGO® One Piece is real! The longest-running and best-selling manga series in history has spawned a multimedia franchise including an anime, video games, toys, and a critically acclaimed Netflix series in 2023. The franchise now has another accolade under its belt: a dedicated LEGO theme!

Various Lego One Piece elements and sets

We were given all 5 LEGO One Piece sets for review, so let's hoist the sails, gather the crew: there's a treasure trove of new elements to discuss!

Products in this article were gifted by The LEGO Group; the author's opinions are their own.

Collectible printed tiles

While the selection of new moulds introduced by the LEGO One Piece sets varies across the wave, each set includes at least one randomly packaged 2 x 3 printed tile.

  • Tile 2 x 3 with Wanted Poster print in Tan (6544199)
There are 8 different designs in total to collect and the number of random tiles in a set depends on its size. The smallest, 75636 Windmill Village Hut contains just 1 and the largest, 75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant, contains 5.

Above is the selection of tiles I managed to collect across all 5 of my review sets. I managed to get 7 out of 8 (so close!)

the intruction book showing all 8 one piece tiles to collect

The instruction booklet shows all 8 possible designs, but there's clearly no guarantee of getting a full set – or even much variety – in a single box. Just look at my selection from 75640!

I can't quite get on board with this decision to randomize these collectible items across multiple sets. I'm not a One Piece fan myself, but even so, the tiles I received in the largest and most expensive of the 5 sets didn’t feel like the most exciting or desirable options. While I’m lucky to have received these sets from The LEGO Group, if I’d paid out of pocket I would have been pretty disappointed that I didn't get a complete set of tiles, and got so many duplicates in the Baratie.

New moulds

The smallest of the 5 LEGO One Piece sets offers 3 new moulds:

lego hair piece and two hat pieces
  • 1x Hair Short, Curly in Black (6537943 | 7369)
  • 1x Straw Hat with Dark Red Band pattern in Bright Light Yellow (6539950 | 112531)
  • 1x Straw Straw Hat with Dark Red Hair, Dark Red Band pattern (6559949 | 112400)
Luffy's hat is so iconic and important to the story of One Piece, 2 moulds have been created to represent it.

2 pics of lego luffy holding his hat and wearing it on his back

The hairless version of the hat features a bar moulded into the brim so it can be held by a minifigure, allowing you to act out important story beats. The hat has also been thoughtfully designed to be worn on the minifigure's back –as Luffy often does– with the help of a neck bracket and 1 x 1 round plate.

New prints and minifigures

All the prints in this set (apart from the 1 random wanted poster) are used on the minifigures.

All 3 minifigures are exclusive to this small set. Fans won't want to miss out on the Shanks minifigure, one of the most beloved characters from the franchise.

lego luffy, shanks and makino minifigs

Luffy

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544126)
  • 1x Torso in White (6553077)

Shanks

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544128)
  • 1x Torso in White (6554871)

Makino

  • 1x Torso in Dark Red (6554756)
Shanks is also the standout figure of the set: I think fans will appreciate the close likeness to both his depiction in the Netflix series and the original anime.

Makino is a nice inclusion to help flesh out the scene but I find the contrast between the detailed print on the torso and plain dark bluish grey skirt a little jarring.

Recolours

75636 Windmill Village Hut contains 5 recoloured elements:

3 lego parts
  • 1x Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 with Curved Top in Tan (6538178 | 5841)
  • 2x Crown / Flower / Egg Shell Half in Dark Purple (6549555 | 39262)
  • 1x Boat / Rowing Boat 14 x 5 x 2 with Oarlocks [No Hollow Inside Studs] in Medium Nougat (6557679 | 21301)

2 lego hairpieces
  • 1x Hair Ponytail Long with Side Bangs in Dark Green (6554747 | 62696)
  • 1x Hair Mid Length, Parted in Dark Red (6554760 | 3277)

Sticker sheet

sticker sheet from 75636 Windmill Village Hut

75636 Windmill Village Hut contains a small sticker sheet of just 6 decals. The stickers are small enough not to make too much of an impact on the set if omitted, but the designs do help to enhance the atmosphere of the little beach hut.

Rare elements

The following 5 elements appear in 3 sets or fewer:

5 lego parts
  • 1 x  Minifig Head Madam Malkin, Dark Pink Lips, Stern Smile/Open Mouth Happy in Warm Tan (6486028 | 108566)
  • 4 x Cone 1 x 1 [Top Groove] in Dark Brown (6512546 | 59900)
  • 1 x Bar 2L with Stop in Center in Sand Green (6546184 | 78258)
  • 4 x Window 1 x 4 x 3 without Shutter Tabs in Dark Orange (6522738 | 60594)
  • 1 x Hips and Legs Under Dress/Robe in Dark Bluish Gray (6283991 | 36036)

The model

completed set 75636 Windmill Village Hut on display

The set captures the aesthetic of an idyllic island hut brilliantly with lots of clevery designed details like the thatched roof and rickety jetty. I particularly like the grille (62113) and window frame combination to represent the wooden structure of the hut.

lego luffy with devil fruit and with shanks and hat

A good selection of accessories and some thoughtfully designed minifigures allow a few important scenes from the series to be acted out, like Luffy eating the devil fruit and receiving his hat from Shanks.

I was a very impressed with the quality of the build and attention to detail put into this little set. Combined with a good selection of exclusive figures, the smallest of the One Piece sets is not one to be overlooked.

Lego One Piece 75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent

New moulds

75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent brings us 7 new moulds:

a lego pear and a lego sword with large clip
  • 1x Plant, Pear in Lime (6541584 | 5822)
  • 1x Katana with Neck Bracket in White (6557681 | 7373)

Pear

lego pear: the underside, compared to lego apple, and replacing a minifig's head

Well, this was unexpected! I wonder why this set was chosen to debut this fun new element; I don't recall a pear playing an important role in the Netflix show? Perhaps fans of the manga or anime can enlighten me.

The pear shares some similarities with the apple (33051) element with 2 notable differences. First, the stalk is solid unlike the hollow one found on the apple. Second, the base of the element bears an anti-stud – a very deep one, that can fit a minifigure neck!

lego sword held in the teeth of a minifig but its actually a large clip that goes around the neck

Unlike the pear, the other new element is very One Piece

The loyal Zoro famously wields 3 swords and a special element has been designed to represent Zoro's favourite sword, Wado Ichimonji. The weapon is notable as it is often wielded in his mouth.

The novel element is an accessory similar to the existing katana (21459), with an extension to clip on to the neck of a minifigure head. The weapon can easily be fitted and removed from a minifigure without removing the head and interrupting play.

More new minifigure elements up next, specifically headwear:

3 lego one piece hats
  • 1x Straw Hat with Dark Red Band pattern in Bright Light Yellow (6539950 | 112531)
  • 1x Headwear, Bandana in Black (6537948 | 7374)
  • 1x Hat, Pirate with Dark Azure Ponytails, White Skull and Bones print in Orange (6544147 | 113236)
The straw hat and bandana appear in other LEGO One Piece sets but Buggy's dual-moulded pirate hat is an exclusive element.

Finally, a couple of new wigs to round out the new moulds in this set:

2 lego wigs
  • 1x Hair Short, Curly in Black (6537943 | 7369)
  • 1x Hair Mid Length, Wavy in Bright Light Orange (6537944 | 7370)

New prints & minifigures

In addition to 2 random printed wanted tiles, 75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent contains some new prints in the form of new minifigure elements.

The set includes 4 minifigures but only Buggy the Clown is exclusive to the set:

lego luffy, nami, zorro, buggy minfigs

Luffy

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544140)
  • 1x Torso in Dark Red (6552624)
  • 1x Legs in Dark Blue (6544136)

Nami

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544142)
  • 1x Torso in White (6553156)
  • 1x Legs in Orange (6544144)

Zoro

  • 1x Minifig Head in Medium Nougat (6544134)
  • 1x Torso in Dark Blue (6553364)

Buggy

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544137)
  • 1x Torso in Medium Nougat (6554124)
  • 1x Legs in Medium Nougat (6544139)

Recolours

75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent contains 4 recoloured parts:

2 lego bricks
  • 1x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Dark Azure (6551378 | 5092)
  • 1x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Dark Azure (6551377 | 5091)
  • 2x Plate Special 3 x 4 with 1 x 4 Center Studs in Medium Nougat (6528536 | 88646)

lego hands and wig
  • 2x Hand, Thing in White (6547212 | 5786)
  • 1x Hair Swept Left Tousled in Bright Green (6553224 | 23186)
This is the first time for the new Thing hand to appear outside of the LEGO® Wednesday theme. You can read an analysis of this unusual element in Toby's review of 76780 Wednesday Addams Figure.

Sticker sheet

75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent includes 2 sticker sheets; 1 opaque and 1 transparent.

stickers sheets from 75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent

Unfortunately, the set is quite dependent on the sticker sheet as they are used to decorate the large face that serves as the model's focal point.

Rare elements

The set contains a small selection of elements that are currently available in just 3 sets or fewer:

4 lego parts
  • 1 x Brick Arch 1 x 8 x 2 Raised in Black (6533765 | 16577 , 40296) in 1 set
  • 2 x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Blue (6535149 | 5092) in 2 sets
  • 2 x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Bright Green (6534935 | 5091) in 2 sets
  • 1 x Steering Wheel Small, 2 x 2 [Reinforced] in Red (6527648 | 16091) in 1 set

The model

completed set 75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent

75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent depicts the fight between the Straw Hat Pirates and the egotistical Buggy the Clown.

tent and rack of seating from 75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent

The roof of the circus tent is built with some interesting angles which incorporate both plates and bricks. It's clever but seems like a very parts-intensive solution for a relatively simple structure.

One feature I was a bit torn on was the inclusion of the 8 chairs; they are a bit redundant without minifigures to fill them, but they do help set the scene.

3 details from set 75637 Buggy the Clown's Circus Tent

The set offers a good amount of playability, including a cleverly constructed cage, a rotating 'wheel of death' circus stunt, and an exploding water tank for our heroes to contend with.

weird buggy the clown character with all limbs attached to one small brick

My favourite feature is the alternate Buggy minifigure included in the set. Buggy's bara bara no mi devil fruit has bestowed upon him the ability to separate his body parts, here he is in an unfortunate recombination after being defeated by the the Straw Hat Crew!

Lego One Piece 75638 Battle at Arlong Park

New Moulds & Prints

75638 Battle at Arlong Park brings us 6 new moulds and 1 extra new print in addition to the 3 random printed wanted posters.

We'll start with my favourite new mould of the entire wave:

lego snail piece, and will a ball attached for shell
  • 1x Animal, Snail in Nougat (6546479 | 7443)
  • 1x Technic Ball Joint with print in Light Bluish Gray (6544160)
The snail element combines with a Technic Ball Joint with new print to represent the Den Den Mushi, a species of telepathic snail that is used in the One Piece universe as long-range communications device.

I wonder if this element will be used outside its intended purpose? A little parts analysis won't hurt, then:

lego snail piece surrounded by bricks to show its dimensions

The above image shows the dimensions of the new element: exactly 1 module wide and 1 module plus 1 plate (i.e. 6 plates) long.

As for connections, as shown below left the eye stalks appear to be 3.18mm in diameter, or close enough that a clip can be attached here (ouch!):

various pictures of lego snail described below

The stud on its back features a pin hole that runs right the way through the element which can fit accessories that have such tiny pin connections. I also had a little fun experimenting with different shell ideas; above are some of the most realistic combinations I found.

The rest of the new moulds are minifigure parts.

There are 3 new hat elements: Arlong's ushanka-style hat is an exclusive, as is Usopp's bandana in this colour but you'll find it in coral in other sets:

3 lego hats
  • 1x Hat, Ushanka with Long Hair Black pattern in Dark Tan (6544148 | 113237)
  • 1x Bandana with Dark Brown Dreadlocks Pattern in Dark Green (6555225 | 112428)
  • 1x Straw Hat with Dark Red Band pattern in Bright Light Yellow (6539950 | 112400)

These 2 new hairpieces are also new, but fairly common across the One Piece sets:

2 lego wigs
  • 1x Hair Short, Curly in Black (6537943 | 7369)
  • 1x Hair Mid Length, Wavy in Bright Light Orange (6537944 | 7370)

New minifigures

75638 Battle at Arlong Park contains a unique variant minifigure of Luffy:

lego luffy with long stretchy arms
  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544152)
  • 1x Torso in Dark Red (6545350)
  • 1x Legs in Dark Blue (6544136)
This version of the character represents Luffy's gomu gomu no mi powers – which gives his body the quality of rubber – bestowed upon him after eating his devil fruit.

Luffy is accompanied by 4 regular minifigures, which are all exclusive to the set:

lego nami, usopp arlong and chu minifigs

Nami

  • 1x Minifig Head in Light Nougat (6544131)
  • 1x Torso in Yellowish Green (6553192)

Usopp

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544153)
  • 1x Torso in Black (6564022)

Arlong

  • 1x Minifig Head in Medium Lavender (6544158)
  • 1x Torso in Bright Light Orange (6553743)

Chu

  • 1x Minifig Head in Medium Azure (6544155)
  • 1x Torso in Blue (6553847)

Recolours

75638 Battle at Arlong Park contains 5 recoloured elements:

3 lego bricks
  • 1x Brick 2 x 8 in Dark Blue (6482811 | 3007)
  • 1x Brick Round 2 x 2 Dome Top, Vented Stud in Dark Tan (6429067 | 3262)
  • 8x Brick Curved, Internal Double, 3 x 3 with 1/3 Inverted Cutout, Corner in Dark Red (6550998 | 73682)
The 2 x 8 brick is a little surprising: I always expect these basic bricks to be available in a wider range of colours. It's also used as a structural element and not visible in the final model. This is the first time the 3262 variation of the 2 x 2 dome has been available in dark tan.

2 lego aceessories
  • 1x Weapon Slingshot in Bright Green (6551001 | 19900)
  • 1x Bag / Messenger Pouch with Long Strap in Bright Light Orange (6551005 | 61976)

Sticker sheet

A single medium-sized sticker sheet is included in the set:

sticker sheet from lego 75638 Battle at Arlong Park

This set is pretty reliant on stickers to provide details: the set looks quite blank without them applied as we'll see later in the review.

Rare elements

The following 8 elements currently appear in 3 sets or fewer:

8 lego parts
  • 1 x  Dish 6 x 6 Inverted (Radar) with Solid Studs in Tan (6215603, 6396012 | 44375b) in 3 other sets
  • 4 x  Tile 6 x 6 with Bottom Tubes in Tan (6272112 | 10202) in other 1 set
  • 4 x 20482 Tile Round 1 x 1 with Hollow Bar in Green (6535694 | 20482 , 31561) in 1 other set
  • 1 x Plant, Flower Stem with Bottom Bar in Dark Green (6498565 | 24855) in 3 other sets
  • 4 x Brick Special 1 x 2 x 1 2/3 with Four Studs on 2 Sides in White (6544445 | 80796) in 1 other set
  • 1 x Slope Curved 4 x 2 No Studs in Dark Tan (6526070 | 93606) in 1 other set
  • 4 x Plate 3 x 3 Corner in Light Bluish Gray (6547152 | 77844) inn 2 other sets
  • 6 x Plate Special 1 x 2 with Clip Vertical on End in Dark Tan (6540811 | 78256) in 3 other sets

The model

completed set 75638 Battle at Arlong Park

The centerpiece to this model – a towering pagoda – is among the most visually impressive of the LEGO One Piece sets but unfortunately, I think it's also one of the most tedious to assemble.

the tower from 75638 Battle at Arlong Park seen from front and back

As there is no interior to the tower – save for the ground floor – there is nothing to break up the monotony of assembling each section of the model which all use a limited spread of the same basic building techniques and colour palette.

the tower falling apart

The patience pays off, however as the finished piece looks good yet suitably dilapidated and the cleverly implemented collapsing play feature works quite well.

4 details from set 75638 Battle at Arlong Park

The accompanying side models are quick and simple builds but generally feel a little lackluster, with 2 of them being essentially seating for the minifigures, offering little extra play value.

75638 Battle at Arlong Park is a mixed bag; the exclusive Arlong and Luffy figures as well as the new snail mould provide desirable elements but the build experience and overall design of the set is a little underwhelming.

New moulds

The 6 new moulds in 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship are all minifigure elements:

4 lego hats/hair pieces
  • 1x Straw Hat with Dark Red Band pattern in Bright Light Orange (6537816 | 112531)
  • 1x Hair Mid Length, Wavy in Bright Light Orange (6537944 | 7370)
  • 1x Hair, Mid Length Wavy, Parted in Bright Light Yellow (6537946 | 7372)
  • 1x Bandana with Dark Brown Dreadlocks Pattern in Coral (6538279 | 112428)

lego hat and sword
  • 1x Headwear, Bandana in Black (6537948 | 7374)
  • 1x Katana with Neck Bracket in White (6557681 | 7373)

In addition to the new moulds, we get a collection of sails printed on a thick plastic sheet:

plastic lego sail pieces from 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship
  • 1x Sails in Tan (6561577 | 114428)
  • 2x Flag in Black (6561579 | 114429)
The main sail is huge, measuring 26 modules by 18 modules from the holes at each corner. The graphic design throughout the LEGO One Piece collection has been very good, with designs that will please fans of both the Netflix series and the original source material.

New prints & minifigures

In addition to the 4 random wanted tiles, the set includes a selection of minifigure elements with new prints.

Of the 5 minifigures in the set only Zoro and Sanji are exclusive in these guises:

5 lego one piece minifigs

Luffy

  • 1x Minifig Head in Nougat (6544140)
  • 1x Torso in Dark Red (6552624)
  • 1x Legs in Dark Blue (6544136)

Nami

  • 1x Minifig Head in Light Nougat (6544142)
  • 1x Torso in White (6553156)
  • 1x Legs in Orange (6544144)

Zoro

  • 1x Minifig Head in Medium Tan (6544134)
  • 1x Torso in Tan (6553268)

Sanji

  • 1x Minifig Head in Light Nougat (6544201)
  • 1x Torso in Black (6553487)

Usopp

  • 1x Minifig Head in Medium Brown (6544153)
  • 1x Torso in Reddish Brown (6553528)
  • 1x Legs in Reddish Brown (6544197)
I feel that LEGO might have easily chosen to split the 5 Straw Hat Pirates between multiple sets to drive up sales, so it's great to have a full crew to man the ship. The figures in these sets have really impressed me with how closely they resemble the characters as they are depicted in the Netflix show and the original source material.

Recolours

10 elements have been recoloured for 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship:

3 lego parts
  • 1x Weapon Slingshot in Bright Green (6551001 | 19900)
  • 1x Bag / Messenger Pouch with Long Strap in Bright Light Orange (6551005 | 61976)
  • 1x Hair Swept Left Tousled [Plain] in Bright Green (6553224 | 23186)

3 lego bricks
  • 2x Brick Arch 1 x 4 x 3 in Reddish Brown (6554333 | 80543)
  • 1x Brick Special 2 x 2 with Grooves and Axle Hole in Dark Tan (6546101 | 90258)
  • 3x Wedge Sloped 45° 3 x 3 Left in Reddish Brown (6554327 | 42862)
  • 3x Wedge Sloped 45° 3 x 3 Right in Reddish Brown (6554325 | 48165)

2 lego pieces
    • 2x Ribbed Hose, 14L / 11.2cm in White (6554448)
    • 2x Brick Curved 2 x 2 with Curved Front, 2 Studs in White (6554300 | 7037)

    Sticker sheet

75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship includes a single medium-sized sticker sheet:

stickert sheet from 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship

The stickers are used to enhance both the interior and exterior of the ship. The interior stickers add a little more atmosphere to the galley and cabin so are worth applying but in my opinion, the exterior still looks great even with the circular ram horn designs left unapplied.

    Rare elements

The following 17 elements currently appear in 3 sets or fewer:

    17 lego pieces
    • 8 x Cable, Flexible 21L with 2 Connectors and Bars in Medium Nougat (6504266 | 2630) in 2 other sets
    • 4 x Hinge Plate 1 x 4 Swivel Top / Base - Hollow Clip [Complete Assembly] in Dark Orange (6533074 | 1927) in 1 other set

75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship is easily my favourite of the five LEGO One Piece sets.

2 details from 75639 The Going Merry Pirate Ship

Building the ship was an absolute joy, with a fully furnished cabin and galley, plus clever techniques used to create the ram figurehead and achieve the angled shaping at the stern.

The Going Merry Pirate Ship with 5 details called out

The designers have made excellent use of every inch of the vessel, packing in as much playability as possible. Alongside the detailed brick-built interior, various sections of the ship can be lifted or slid out to reveal a bounty of accessories and hidden details.

Rounding out the set is a full crew of Straw Hat Pirates, meaning you’re ready to set sail on the seven seas straight out of the box.

    New moulds

75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant contains 10 new moulds.

lego snail piece, and will a ball attached for shell
    • 1x Animal, Snail in Nougat (6546479 | 7443)
    • 1x Technic Ball Joint with print in Light Bluish Gray (6544160)
Onto the minifig elements, first some new headwear:

    3 lego hat/hair bits
    • 1x Bandana with Dark Brown Dreadlocks Pattern in Coral (6538279 | 112428)
    • 1x Straw Hat, Black Hair in Bright Light Orange (6537816 | 112400
    • 1x Headwear, Bandana in Black (6537948 | 7374)
Luffy's iconic hat (centre) will most likely be IP-locked but the 2 bandana designs look generic enough to appear in other themes.

    Next, some new hairpieces:

    4 lego hair pieces
    • 1x Hair, Mid Length Wavy, Parted in Bright Light Yellow (6537946 | 7372)
    • 1x Hair Mid Length, Wavy in Bright Light Orange (6537944 | 7370)
    • Apologies, this is not a new mould but a recolour: 1x Hair Bowl Cut and Parted in Center in Bright Pink (6553742 | 38800, 5961, 86370)
    • 1x Minifig Neckwear Moustache, Braided in Ochre Yellow (6537949 | 7375)
A nice selection to diversify our minifigures. The colours might be a little out there but it's not unreasonable to expect these turning up elsewhere in different colours some time in the future. The braided beard would make a nice addition to a fantasy dwarf minifigure.

Finally, we have 2 new minifigure weapon elements:

    2 lego swords
    • 1x Weapon Sword, Curve with Wide Hilt in Pearl Dark Grey (6537942 | 7368)
    • 1x Katana with Neck Bracket in White (6557681 | 7373)
These 2 new elements represent Dracule Mihawk's uber-powerful sword, Yoru and Zoro' favourite blade, Wado Ichimonji; both weapons feature prominently in the story of One Piece.

    Let's take a closer look:

black Yoru sword showing its connection points and placement on the minifig back

Mihawk's weapon of choice is a blade so powerful that it once used to slice a whole galleon in half with a single blow so it's fitting this fabled weapon gets its very own mould!

One side of the pommel features a short bar which has the purpose of plugging into a minifigure neck bracket so Mihawk can lug the huge armament on his back. The bar features a pinhole which can fit accessories, like the flame element above.

    Recolours

The set contains a total of 14 recoloured elements; the pink center-parted bowl cut hair photographed above, plus the following 13 elements:

While a full set of Straw Hat pirates are available in less expensive sets (with the exception of Sanji), for dedicated fans of the franchise, the Baratie may well be worth the investment due to all those extra exclusive figures – many of which will most likely not appear in another set.

          Sticker sheet

75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant contains 2 sticker sheets.

one of the 2 sticker sheets from lego baratie set

Large collectible sets based on IPs typically come with large, extensive sticker sheets packed with easter eggs but the one provided in the Baratie is surprisingly small. This opaque sheet only holds 10 stickers.

The set should include a second transparent sheet of decals numbered 11-14 but unfortunately it was missing from my review copy. If you encounter the same issue, contact Customer Services.

          Rare elements

In addition to all the brand new parts, the Baratie serves up a good portion of rare elements too.

          The model

          The completed Baratie Floating Restaurant

75640 The Baratie Floating Restaurant would make an impressive centerpiece to any One Piece fan's collection but there's also a lot for others to enjoy too.

4 details from The Baratie Floating Restaurant

The Baratie Floating Restaurant offers a thoroughly enjoyable building experience packed with clever techniques – from the inventive staircase and wall construction, to some truly standout sections like the brilliantly designed fish head. The set is rich in detail and character, and a lot of fun to put together.

rear view of The Baratie Floating Restaurant.

Considering the price per part, 3402 pieces for the price doesn't feel unreasonable – especially when compared to other licensed sets in a similar price bracket. From a quick glance at LEGO.com, The X-Mansion or Arkham Asylum come in with fewer parts at the same or higher price, making the Baratie one of the better-value big-ticket licensed builds currently on offer.

The most expensive set of the LEGO One Piece line will be a tantalizing proposal for fans: an attractive line-up of figures, a varied and unique build experience, and a truly impressive finished model.

          Closing thoughts

I know very little about One Piece, but it’s clear the designers approached this beloved franchise with a real sense of reverence – apparent even in the smallest of sets. The attention to detail across the entire collection has actually inspired me to start exploring the manga and anime for myself.

The minifigures are a standout feature, with plenty of new elements and prints that truly bring the characters to life in LEGO form. Thanks to the Netflix adaptation’s commitment to staying true to the source material, the minifigures also remain faithful to the original designs – something fans from all corners of the fandom are likely to appreciate.

          1. Nice reviews and parts overview!

The circus tent is not the only set to debut the pear — the August wave of Animal Crossing sets also includes them, and I suspect they were designed for that theme since they are one of the five standard fruits in Animal Crossing games (apples, cherries, oranges, peaches, and pears), and the only one not previously available in the LEGO theme.

They're definitely a nice mold, especially since compared to a lot of fruit, pears are a difficult shape to build using existing parts. Outside of their obvious intended use, I could imagine botanical sets using them as the calyx of some flowers!

The snail mold is also shared by the Animal Crossing sets, albeit with a Medium Nougat ice-cream swirl for its shell. I imagine there are a number of pieces you could use for different types of snail shells, and of course without a shell it works just as nicely as a slug! I'm sure it could also have non-animal uses — for example, much like the frog piece, it could potentially be used as a wall-mounted hat/coat hanger, as a botanical element, or as architectural ornamentation.

The neck mounted katana is interested, and I have to wonder whether it will be IP-locked. On the one hand, there's nothing IP-specific about the blade and hilt design compared to katanas in other themes like Ninjago. But on the other, Zoro's three-swords style is very particular to One Piece.

If it's not IP-locked, I'm definitely curious to see what other uses it might have in sets and MOCs. One thing that occurs to me right off the bat is that a small brick-built figure that uses a minifig head (sort of like some brick-built snowmen) could use this as a way to "hold" a sword even if their build doesn't allow for molded hands/arms. I imagine a Ninjago City set could also find some clever architectural or decorative use for it!

The various minifig hat and headgear molds are very nice in their own right, and I am also hoping that most of them will not be IP-locked so we can get them in a wider range of colors! Buggy's hat/hair piece seems the most likely to be IP-locked since it's so character-specific. I'm less certain about the straw hat molds — certainly in these colors it feels somewhat specific to One Piece, but perhaps in other colors it could be used more freely across other themes without such concerns? Which parts are or aren't IP-locked can be pretty unintuitive sometimes, and I guess the most we can do as fans is cross our fingers.

Thanks again for this overview! I'm not a One Piece fan myself but hopefully these sets will be a big hit with fans of that franchise. They are definitely very impressive work on the designers' part, and seem to do a great job capturing that shonen manga style zaniness that has made the series and its various adaptations such a big hit around the world!

          2. Nice review!

Regarding the pear piece, it's reused here but I imagine it was introduced mainly for the Animal Crossing theme. With its introduction, the six most common fruits in the series (apples, pears, peaches, cherries, oranges, and coconuts) all exist in Lego form (with the latter two both using Bionicle ball joints for their rounded shape). I love the anti-stud on this pear piece, which makes it easier to attach securely to surfaces than the apple (which can only attach by its angled stem).

The snail, too, also appears in Animal Crossing. I'd expected that that theme might make use of some of the insect-printed tiles from the Friends theme but it's mostly relied on molded animals. In any case, this snail is a great piece there and here—and like the hermit crab, being able to customize the shell is a great feature.

I must confess I haven't yet watched or read One Piece, though I'm familiar with some of it via friends who are into it. I ought to give the Netflix series a shot, since it might be easier to get into than an anime or manga that has been running for decades. I think the choice to base sets on the live action series is good both for that reason and because it's easier to adapt real human likenesses into minifigure form than it necessarily would be to adapt the cartoony character designs of the manga (some of which have exaggerated traits like long noses which, understandably, would not be easy to adapt to minifigures).

If I were to get any of these sets (and I probably won't, given that I'm not yet into the series and rarely get many licensed themes anyway), the Going Merry looks absolutely stunning. I'm a sucker for a ship with a brick-built hull any day of the week, and coming with the full crew of main characters and plenty of interior and exterior detail is great. It's also well-sized to give it plenty of space as befits the main cast's vessel while still leaving room for larger ships (including the Baratie as well as other potential ships in the future).

          3. Is the snail piece medium nougat or nougat? You've listed it as medium but it looks like the same colour as Luffy

            1. Good catch! I get a bit mixed up with all these shades sometimes. I've corrected the article: the snail is indeed, nougat. Thanks!
