My knowledge of the Fast & Furious franchise is about as good as my knowledge of cars – in other words, virtually non-existent. An analysis of a set's elements and techniques though? Now that I can do!

Let's take a look at 77241 2 Fast 2 Furious Honda S2000 – or as I call it: the pink one.

New moulds

We'll get to the shed-load of pink recolours soon, but first let's admire the new screen:

lego windscreen printed with pink trim
  • Windscreen, Curved 6 x 2 x 2 with Dark Pink Frame print in Transparent/ Trans-Clear (6554260 | 114259)
Windscreen, Curved 6 x 2 x 2 compared to 2 smaller, older lego windscreens intended for convertibles

It's a welcome alternative for convertible builds that previously made-do with the 6 x 3 x 1 (62360, 35299, 35298 – shown top right) and its smaller 4 x 2 x 1 counterpart (81911 – bottom right). Both are valued elements, but rarely the most accurate shape imaginable.

The only point against the new screen in this arena is the fact it's currently only available with the pink printing – not especially versatile, but we'll surely be getting a plain version soon enough.

Lego Windscreen 6 x 6 x 1 2/3. An inset shows its angle compared to the new windscreen, which is slightly shallower.

It's 1 plate shy of the height of its existing 6 x 6 x 1⅔ cousin (65632), resulting in a slightly shallower A-pillar angle. Nevertheless, the two still share a lot of DNA which is appropriate for some of the theme's signature elements.

Windscreen, Curved 6 x 2 x 2 surrounded by other lego parts showing its dimensions and matching curves and slopes

Like 65632, the front curve of the new screen matches up with 1 x 3 curved slopes, while the inside angle of the A-pillar aligns perfectly with 45° 1 x 2-based roof tiles.

a series of plates and snot bricks connecting the new Windscreen, Curved 6 x 2 x 2 to a large lego slope with similar angle

A match for the outer incline was harder to find. With a bit of gymnastics, I found a 1 x 6 x 5 slope (30259, 2937) just about does the job. I doubt such a combo is that useful.

The same can't be said of our next pair of new moulds:

2 silver lego wheel covers that are star shaped

Hub caps always make for good greebles but these two are especially tasty!
  •  Wheel Covers 9 Spoke, No Rim in Silver Metallic/ Flat Silver (6825b)
  •  Wheel Covers 5 Spoke, No Rim in Silver Metallic/ Flat Silver (6825a)

And now, the main event.

Recolours and rare parts

The amount of noteworthy pink parts in this set is astonishing.

12 dark pink lego parts

Here's all 12 exclusive Bright Purple/ Dark Pink recolours. Row by row, left to right they are:
  • 6 x Bracket 1 x 1 - 1 x 1 Inverted (6553406 | 36840)
  • 1 x Plate Round Corners 2 x 6 Double  (6553410 | 18980)
  • 2 x Plate Special 1 x 2 with Bar Up [Horizontal Arm 5mm] (6555322 | 43876)
  • 5 x Tile 1 x 3 (6555321 | 63864)
  • 1 x Slope Curved 4 x 2 No Studs (6561161 | 93606)
  • 2 x Tile 45° Cut 2 x 2 (Triangle) (6561162 | 35787)
  • 6 x Bracket 1 x 1 - 1 x 2 Inverted (6553415 | 73825)
  • 4 x Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 with Curved Top (6553413 | 5841)
  • 4 x Plate Special 1 x 2 with Clip Horizontal on Side (6560325 | 11476 , 65458)
  • 4 x Wheel Arch, Mudguard 4 x 2 x 2 1/2 (6553409 | 3387)

  • 9 x Plate 1 x 1 x 2/3 with Open Stud (6555320 | 86996)

As if that wasn't enough pink, there's one exclusive Light Purple/ Bright Pink recolour too:

light pink lego game controller piece
  • 2 x Game Controller [Plain] (6560324 | 53118)

But wait, there's more. The rare dark pink parts, appearing in two other sets or less, are:

4 dark pink lego parts

  • 2 x Tile 2 x 2 Curved, Macaroni (6525972 | 27925)
  • 2 x Plate 2 x 3 with 1 x 1 Cutout (6451742 | 73831)
  • 2 x Slope Curved 4 x 1 No Studs [Stud Holder with Symmetric Ridges] (6533624 | 11153)
  • 2 x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Left (6481633 | 29120) and Right (6481634 | 29119)

Decorations

5 printed lego pieces

Unsurprisingly, the exclusive printed elements are almost all dark pink too:
  • Slope Brick Curved 2 x 4 x 2/3 No Studs, with Dark Purple/White Graffiti Girl print Left (6548216) and Right (6554261)
  • Tile 1 x 6 with White/Dark Purple Graffiti print Left (6548217) and Right (6554262)
  • Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Left with Black/Orange Headlight print Left (6548214) and Right (6548215)
  • 2x +1 spare Slope 30° 1 x 1 x 2/3 (Cheese Slope) with Black Safety Bar print (6561460)
That is, apart from a single print in white (but even this has some pink printed on it!).

  • 1x +1 spare Tile 1 x 1 with White/Dark Pink Girl on Dark Purple Background print (6548218)

The remaining decorations are achieved with stickers. They're numerous, but easy enough to apply, with great colour matching to the pink plastic.

The driver

As is the norm for LEGO Speed Champions, the set includes a single minifigure:

suki lego minifig from 2 Fast 2 Furious

Suki has a frowny/smiley double sided head and is composed entirely of exclusive elements:

  • Hair Long Parted in Centre in Medium Nougat (6561915 | 36806) – Exclusive recolour
  • Minifig Head Suki, Dark Brown Eyebrows, Frown / Open Mouth print in Warm Tan (6548211)
  • Torso, Dark Purple Top, Dark Pink Trim, Warm Tan Chest, Tummy print, Warm Tan Arms and Hands in Medium Lilac/ Dark Purple (6561939)
  • Hips and Dark Pink Legs with Belt, Silver Bull Skull, Sand Blue/Yellow Straps print in Bright Purple/ Dark Pink (6548213)

The build

front of the car during assembly. Pink bars hold rounded plates with holes.

1 x 2 plates with upwards bars (43876) jump a section at the rear from 8 modules wide to 7, with 1 x 2 rounded plates (35480) used to secure the subassembly in place.

a detailed, dense lego construction of strange pieces. A second picture shows that it is inserted deep towards the rear of the vehicle.

Nestled between the two seats is an intricate bundle of modified plates and clips that supports the roll bar assembly as well as a few interior details.

curved pink lego front headlights held in place at angles using robot arms attached to bars deep in the centrer of the construction

A round plate with downwards bar (3661) typically indicates some snazzy technique is afoot, and that's certainly the case here at the nose of the Honda S2000. Together with a couple of battle droid arms (30377) and 1x1 round plates with underside horizontal bars (79194), they set the angle of the 1 x 2 curved slopes with stud notches.

The engine – complete with sticker – is an Easter egg included for the builder only, as surprisingly it is entombed by the end of the build.

the front of the car, but with one corner piece on the hood replaced with another curved piece instead, which doesnt quite match

As I added the last few parts, I wondered why the new 2 x 4 curved wedges (6929 and 6930) aren't used for the headlights. As it turns out, those parts wouldn't fit due to the height of the mudguards and there's a small indent on the real car the designer was undoubtedly trying to capture - mystery solved!

The completed model

The finished Speed Champions Lego 2 Fast 2 Furious pink Honda S2000 seen from the righthand side front angle

Colour, graphics, a new windscreen mould and – did I mention the colour? – elevate what is otherwise a fairly average build in the LEGO Speed Champions line-up. Given the high quality of the theme, this is by no means a negative statement.

Left rear side view of the car

Minus the odd stud notch here and there, I only spot two awkward areas of shaping: The roll bar assembly doesn't quite gel with the rest of the bodywork, and there is a slightly blocky transition from the line of cheese slopes to the tail light section.

closeups showing the minifig suki driving, and her dashboard of instrumentation

It's minifigure accessory NPU galore in the interior; A microphone (21009, 73467) is used for the gear stick, the recoloured games controllers (53118) for padded seats and, between them, a pen (35809) for the fire extinguisher. Also note the 1 x 1 tile with monitor print we saw earlier, ergonomically positioned in Suki's eyeline.

The vehicle's forward rake makes the bodywork look a bit wonky from certain angles to my eyes. However, I trust the designers know best when it comes to choosing the optimal solution given the limitations of the brick, plus in this case we're treated to some gorgeous graphic design work to distract the eye.

The car without any stickers, but the sides are printed

For the most part, that holds true even if you choose not to apply the stickers, thanks to the well-placed prints.

Closing thoughts

The price of US$26.99/ £22.99/ 26.99€/ AU$39.99 continues to feel steep for a single car, but is consistent with recent LEGO Speed Champions sets, so no additional premium has been added for the Fast & Furious license.

Fortunately the overall quality is on par with the rest of the theme too. Build quality and interesting parts are seemingly guaranteed in an SC set, but here the graphic design work shines brightest!

  1. I was waiting for such a windshield, like Sluban (or some other brand) has on some cars. Too bad it has a little dimple at the top, though.

  2. Nice review!

The new windscreen looks neat. A common issue with many Lego windscreens is that they end in a perfect vertical that, while easy to use, isn't necessarily accurate to how many vehicle windscreens are actually shaped. I'm pleased that even though this one isn't vertical the rear slope DOES match other slope pieces, making it easier to use in an enclosed format if that's what you prefer. I wonder if we might ever see any angled panels that match this sort of thing and could be used for more accurate door windows in conjunction with a part like this?

The use of game controllers for the padded seat backs looks so good. In general the interior looks quite good, probably owing to both the fact that it's open-topped (meaning it has to look better since it's more visible on display) and because, as a movie car, there's plenty of reference shots of the interior to work from.

The color is very distinctive and a rare sight to see this much pink in a theme like Speed Champions! I'd love to see more like that in themes like Technic as well (since it works great both to defy stereotypes about what mechanical/"high performance" subjects look like and offer lots of very cool recolors). The wealth of wedges/slopes/angular parts in this color (less common in themes like Friends that more commonly use pinks) are great to have for sculptural builds, as well.
