According to the folklore printed in the instruction booklet, LEGO® Chinese Festivals set 80120 Prosperity Carp Leaping symbolises "achieving one's aspirations through perseverance and determination", and displaying a carp leaping over the Dragon Gate ornament at home can bring good luck in one's career or studies. I think this is a bit contradictory – do you need to work hard if you have the ornament? Personally, I'd put more faith in the hard work part. Nonetheless, it looks like a great model – especially as we haven't seen too many sets with brick-built fish.

LEGO® Chinese Festival 80106 & 80107: new parts & Lee's alternate builds
After a close examination of sets 80106 Story of Nian and 80107 Spring Lantern Festival on their own, it is time to take them apart and make something new with the awesome selection of LEGO® parts - as the festive banner suggested, “Out with the old, in with the new” (辭舊迎新)! The second Chinese New Year set for 2021 is the larger 80107 Spring Lantern Festival, introducing LEGO® fans to this special day in traditional Chinese New Year celebrations with a stunning 1793-piece Chinese Garden display. LEGO® Chinese Festival review: 80106 Story of Nian
I was really excited when the two new Chinese Traditional Festival sets were revealed in November for their wonderful builds and parts, but are the actual products as exciting as the official pictures suggest? In this 3-part review series I will examine these sets closely, starting with the smaller set, 80106 Story of Nian. Since I have covered most of the new parts in the preview article, we will instead jump right into the models and take a more thorough look at the parts in my concluding article in a few days' time.

Not only are they great display pieces, these two upcoming sets are like the Cave of Wonders for builders who love elements, like us here at New Elementary. Unable to wait for the release of these awesome sets, I decided to go on a visual “part hunt” to find interesting parts for our readers in advance.

LEGO® parts review: 80105 Chinese New Year Temple Fair

Okay, we realise that it nearly June now, so 'new' might seem a bit hopeful, and yet many of these elements remain exclusive to this set. There are also a large number that have only appeared in one other set. So we definitely felt it was worth dedicating a post concentrating on the new elements, and those of interest either for their rarity or history. Coming soon, we also have an interview with the designer of this set, Markus Rollbühler, where I ask some of the questions that arose during the process of discovering the new elements and building his set.
