New moulds in LEGO® Pokémon SMART Play™ sets August 2026

Stand by, trainers: prepare to catch, bond with and train your Pokémon with the August 2026 wave of LEGO® Pokémon SMART Play™ sets now available, but only in the US, UK, Australia, Germany, France and Poland.

This first article takes a look at all the new moulds, and there are plenty to be found amongst the fifteen sets (including the two paper-poly bags and a gift-with-purchase set).

Plate 1 x 4 with Rounded Ends, 2 Studs (8241)

• Plate 1 x 4 with Rounded Ends, 2 Studs in Medium Azure (6631597 | 8241), found 2x in 72155

This new mould is equivalent to a 1x2 plate with a 1x1 quarter tile on each end. Having the 1x1 quarter tile portion attached means it is more stable, and the ends can overhang if needed.

Plate Round Corners 3 x 3 with Side Stud (7907)

• Plate Round Corners 3 x 3 with Side Stud in Black (6578474 | 7907), found 1x in 72156, 1x in 72158, 1x in 72161, 1x in 72163, 1x in 72164, 1x in 72166, 1x in 72167

The new plate pairs with another new mould that we will come to further down the list. Brick Round, Curved Inverted 3 x 3 in White (6578475 | 7908) has the same 3x3 rounded corner area for connection with the side stud protruding.

While there will no doubt be other potential applications for this element, it is used to form a squared-off Poké Ball in these sets.

Plate Special 2 x 2 with Round Cutouts on Sides (8442)

The cutout semicircles have a radius of 2.4mm. When two plates are connected, the completed circle is a 4.8mm diameter circle that fits a LEGO Technic pin, or indeed a stud.

The new plate joins multiple families: the 1x2 half round brick (68013, in lime) shares the same cutout on its straight edge; there's an obvious family in the 2-module-wide LEGO Technic plates; and finally the 4x4 rounded plate with pin holes (7864) in yellow.

When stacked, the plates create interesting textures that could be useful for architectural MOCs or microscale buildings.

As mentioned, we could think of one other element with the same 'semi-pin' cutout: 1 x 2 half round brick (68013). The brick was a useful way to create a channel for an axle but sometimes a whole brick depth is not needed and this new plate will be very useful in fulfilling this role.

This new plate offers a plate solution for the other side while still allowing the axle to pass through the channel.

When multiple plates are lined up, the alternating pattern of 4.8mm holes is easier to see.

Since the central hole is created by uniting two plates, elements that would not fit in the 4.8mm hole in a Technic plate can be placed between the two plates.

The 3.18mm bar obviously just falls out when placed in the larger groove, but there's the potential for some nice microscale/architectural use if the bar is held at one end.

Plate Special 4 x 3 with Rounded Corners, 1 Stud (Design ID 7530)

The curved edge of the new plate is a match for Plate Round Corner 3 x 3 with 2 x 2 Round Cutout (68568) in dark orange and Plate Round Corner 3 x 3 (30357) in dark turquoise. There is a single stud on one end of the curved edge, giving the rest of the plate as a large printable area.

In fact, connecting two 68568s by their end studs gives the same outline as the new plate mould, although only when looking down of course. There is no plate equivalent of the 2 x 2 macaroni tile (27925) but this would be the solution to have an outline one plate in height.

Cone with Bar (8240)

When compared to a few other smaller elements, mostly ones with pointed ends, you can see that the new mould is tiny. It must be in the top five of smallest elements by volume.

It pops into any 3.18mm hole or hollow stud, and looks especially nice when placed into a 1x1 cone (59900) or candlestick (37762), but there are many more options. 

It looks like a large chalk stick when the candlestick is white, or when red, perhaps a firework? 

Brick Curved 1 x 4 Double with 1 x 2 x ⅔ Cutout (7523)

The overall shape of Brick Curved 1 x 4 Double with 1 x 2 x ⅔ Cutout can be made with other elements but it's not possible to create it exactly.  Using two 1x2x1 brick with curved top (5841) and a 1x2 tile comes close, but the cutout of the new mould is 1x 2 x ⅔.

Brick Curved 2 x 4 Double with 2 x 2 x ⅔ Cutout (7526)

This is just a 2-module-deep version of the new mould above, Brick Curved 1 x 4 Double with 1 x 2 x ⅔ Cutout (7523). This double version has the overall shape of two 1 x 2 x 1 curved bricks (37352) with a 2x2 tile in the middle.  

As before, the element looks like it could be made from other elements using four 1x2x1 bricks with curved top (5841) and a 2x2 tile, but again this does not give the full cutout; only 2 x 2 x ⅓.

Brick Curved 2 x 2 x 1⅔ Corner (7528)

The footprint is a 2x2 corner with two faces, having a 2 x 1⅔ curve with 1x1 cutout at the peak of the curved corner. 

Rather than being a curved corner, like 2 x 2 x 1⅔ Quarter Dome with 1 x 1  Cutout (5906), the square sides slope up to come together at the top.

The 2 x 1⅔ curve edges match a few other elements; from left to right we have:

• Brick Curved 2 x 2 x 1⅔ Corner (7528, in orange)
• 2 x 2 x 1⅔ Quarter Dome with 1 x 1  Cutout (5906 in medium azure)
• Brick Curved 2 x 2 x 1⅔ (7527 in dark purple)
• Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1⅔ with 1x1 Cutout (5907 in light yellow).

Brick Round, Curved 1 x 2 with Side Stud, Bar  (7534)

There are multiple components to this intriguing new mould. There's a rounded end on one side with a vertical bar connection in the centre, while the other end has a hollow side stud. With the rounded ends, curved dome top and the vertical bar connections, it fits within a few element families.

The new mould offers some interesting combinations when paired with the Plate 1 x 1 x ⅔ Half Round with Side Stud, a.k.a. D-SNOT (3386). With the rounded end's stud connected, the two hollow studs are in alignment to connect across two studs, as shown with the medium azure 1x2 plate.  

The curved end can be extended by ⅔ by attaching the D-SNOT's anti-stud to the hollow stud on the new mould. 

Finally, a half-plate offset can be achieved each with a rounded end on the outside.

One very satisfying moment occurred when one of the New E team suggested connecting four together. The central gap is ⅔ x ⅔ in size.

Brick Round, Curved Inverted 3 x 3 (7908)

The top surface pairs with the plate mould we discussed earlier, Plate Round Corners 3 x 3 with Side Stud (7907), and also the new Brick Round, Curved Triple 1 x 3 x 1 (7906) shown in dark purple, which we will come on to shortly.

The connection on the underside is interesting, with an anti-stud sized central tube. It matches a handful of other elements, including Brick Round 1.5 x 1.5 Dome Top (20952, which is not pictured); Cone 1.5 x 1.5 x ⅔  'mini hat' (33492, in light bluish grey) and, rather bizarrely, the LEGO Technic Scuba Flipper (32008). 

We took a closer look at this tube and tried to see what would fit in the gap in our review of LEGO® Overwatch set 75973 D.Va & Reinhardt.  The only element that would perfectly in this gap at that time was the top rim of the goblet (6269).

Brick Round, Curved 4 x 4  (7521)

All these new moulds come printed with different Pokémons' facial features:

The element itself is a POOP element as it can be made with a combination of current elements, but the use of a single new element provides added stability and a larger area for print, given that LEGO doesn't print graphics over multiple parts any more.

It joins the family of other 4x4 curved-corner elements, including:

• Plate Round Corners 4 x 4 x 2/3 Circle with 2 x 2 Opening (79387, in bright green)

Brick Round, Curved Triple 1 x 3 x 1 (7906)

The new mould can be made already using three individual elements we already have: a 1x1x1 curved quarter dome (5848) on either end of a 1x1 curved brick (7126).  The advantages of stability and printing area must have been enough to justify the new mould. 

Its underside bears a toothsome grin.

We can create any length of the Curved Triple 1 x X x 1 using a combination of the a 1x1x1 curved quarter dome (5848) and either 1x1 curved brick (7126) and/or  1 x 2 x 1 curved brick (37352)

• Brick Round, Curved Triple 1 x 3 x 1(7906)

Brick Round, Curved Inverted Triple 1 x 3 x 1 with 1 x 2 Extension (7533)

The new mould joins the wider family of inverted curved bricks. There are not many that include a corner, however: only Brick Curved Inverted 2 x 2 x 1, Corner (7512, in dark orange), and the new Pokémon mould Brick Round, Curved Inverted 3 x 3 (7908, in white) discussed earlier.

Brick Round, Curved Triple 2 x 6 x 1⅔ with 1 x 4 x 1 cutout  (8731) has the same footprint as 2 x 6 plate with rounded corners (18980). 

This is another example of a POOP element as it can be made using 2 x 2 x 1⅔ Quarter Dome with 1 x 1  Cutout (5906) and Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 2/3 with 1x1 Cutout (5907), as shown on the right of the image above.

Brick Round, Curved Triple 4 x 3  x 1 with 2 x 2 x ⅔ cutout (7522)

• Brick Round, Curved Triple 4 x 3  x 1 with 2 x 2 x ⅔ cutout with print in Yellow (6608747 | 7522), found 1x in 72167

This new mould has the overall shape of a rounded 4x3 made with 1x1x1 curved quarter domes (5848) and 1x2x1 curved bricks (37352). The difference is that the 2x2 cutout cannot be made, so the new mould gives the shape with cutout as well as a greater print area.

Brick Round, Curved Triple 4 x 3  x 1 with 2 x 2 x ⅔ cutout (7522)

There is a smaller version of the new Brick Round, Curved Triple 4 x 3  x 1 with 2 x 2 x ⅔ cutout (7522) that is not new as such, but we haven't discussed it yet on New Elementary: Brick Round, Curved Triple 2 x 4 x1 with 1 x 2 x ⅔ Bottom Cutout (7525). This smaller mould has appeared twice before, in dark azure with print in 72153 Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, and in dark tan with print in 76474 Hogwarts Herbology Plants.

• 1x Brick Round, Curved Triple 2 x 4 x1 with 1 x 2 x ⅔ Bottom Cutout with print in Bright Pink (6608736 | 7525) in 72161
• 1x Brick Round, Curved Triple 2 x 4 x1 with 1 x 2 x ⅔ Bottom Cutout with print in White (6608657 | 7525) in 72158

The overall shape can be made with 1x1x1 curved quarter dome (5848), 1x1 curved brick (7126) and 1x2x1 curved brick (37352). Just like the larger mould, the difference is that the 1x2 cutout cannot be created, so the new mould gives the shape with cutout as well as a greater print area.

Cloth Wing

• Wing in Orange with Dark Turquoise (6629523), found 1x in 72167
• Wing in Orange with Dark Turquoise (6629527), found 1x in 72167

 

The two wings come safely packaged in their own envelope, with a different Element ID, 6633702.

They are cut from starched fabric that holds its shape, and the main print is dark turquoise with a couple of dark blue lines. The number of modules between each of the connection holes in the fabric give approximate dimensions of 9 modules in length and 14 modules in height.

Conclusion

So overall we have quite the mix of new rounded moulds across the LEGO Pokémon SMART Play sets; some perhaps more exciting than others and some more useful in MOCs. 

The elephant in the room is that at the moment, LEGO Pokemon Smart Play sets are only available in the US, UK, Australia, Germany, France and Poland. There's a good chance the unprinted elements may well become available on Pick a Brick eventually, especially if the new moulds become more widely available in non-IP themes.
