About F1® The Movie

F1 The Movie was in theatres earlier this year.  It tells the story of Sonny Hayes, a former driver who returns to Formula 1 racing alongside his teammate, Joshua Pearce, at the fictional team APXGP on the grid.  77252 APXGP Team Race Car is a tie-in set to build the F1 toy car, featuring the design details from the movie car including its black-and-gold livery, sponsor decals and wider rear tyres imprinted with ‘Pirelli’.

Potential new mould

closeup of the car and a mockup of a lego plate measuring 2x2 studs, but 2 sides are curved in a perfect quarter circle

Could this be a new mould? We noticed something that looks like a 2x2 rounded plate, in pearl gold.  We've knocked up a version above right to show what it could look like.

Judging by other pictures, it can't be the existing 2x6 plate with rounded corners. We really hope this is the case, as this has long been a desired element!

Recolours

The New Elementary team spotted a few new recoloured elements in these images:

  • Tiny Porsche bows in black and printed (7206 & 7205)
  • Sports Ski 6L in pearl gold (28922)
  •  1x2 curved slope in pearl gold (3563)
Did we miss anything?

Printed elements

There clearly are stickers present, as the official LEGO description mentions:
...a wrench that can also be used to apply stickers and separate bricks.

We were excited to see a decorated ingot in the among other images from LEGO, as this would be the first time this piece has been printed. There's a chance it could be a sticker but that feels unlikely as the uneven surface of the ingot would make sticker application especially fiddly.

But why does this decorated ingot not appear in every image of the set?

Since each Formula 1 team fields two drivers on the grid for each race, one T-cam will be plain black and the other will have a yellow marking to distinguish the cars. It seems this 1x2 ingot has a yellow decoration to depict the yellow on the T-cam.

Here's a closer look a the  wider rear tyres, imprinted with the Pirelli and P ZERO logos.

Minifigures

The set includes two F1 driver minifigure characters from the movie: Sonny Hayes and Joshua Pearce, each with individual helmets featuring their signature.

Brad Pitt plays Sonny Hayes, a former driver who returns to Formula 1 racing alongside his teammate Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) at APXGP.  For a actor who has been in many big movies over the years, surprisingly this is the first Brad Pitt minifigure!

Whether you are a fan of the movie, a fan of cars or perhaps just a fan of Brad...will you be adding the APXGP Team Race Car to your garage?

did you mean to say *mocked* up...?

    1. Nope. Collins dictionary:
"If you knock something up, you make it or build it very quickly, using whatever materials are available.

  2. If you wanna know what that part *already* looks like, search for 26601W on Aliexpress. 2x2 quarter disk by Wange.

Meanwhile, LEGO keeps destroying imported packages from those same brands they're stealing from, because of patents.

    1. I don't think I'll search for that but thanks for the comment. I'm not really a Wange fan.

    2. Oh it was just to say who made it. Of course the part is unbranded. Perhaps LEGO's version will have a different underside, though. But other than that, there's not much room for differences.
