Review: 71862, 71863, 71864 and 71865 from LEGO® NINJAGO®

Posted by tobymac

In my final article covering some of the June/August 2026 LEGO® NINJAGO® sets, I'm building 4 of the smaller sets in the wave. Grab your Dragon Claws as we battle against new and familiar foes.

New mold in multiple sets

One of the new molds can be found in 3 of the sets discussed in this article:

  • Dragon Claw in Pearl Gold (6575802 | 7879) appears 2x in sets 71862, 71863 and 71865

As we’ll see in 71865 Zane's Ice Dragon Battle, the claws can be found loose, and not part of the Draconus form the ninja achieved during the first half of Dragons Rising season 4. My best guess is that the claws are in the same vein as the original Golden Weapons, functioning as a sort of power-up. Since, at time of writing, the second half of season 4 is not yet released, that is just speculation.

Lego Ninjago 71862 Lloyd’s Dragon Mech Battle Pack

Set 71862 is, with 81 parts, the smallest of the batch, and complements 71851 Kai's Dragon Mech Battle Pack from January 2026. Given the size and the 6+ target age group, the model is as basic as can be expected, but with 3 minifigures it is a nice pickup.

New elements

  • Mech Chest Plate / Armor with Handle in Dark Green (6612984 | 8091)
The mech uses the same new chest plate as can be found in 71871 Battle at the Dragon’s Blade, appearing in Dark Green here. You can read my exploration of LEGO part 8091 in my review of the Legends set 71871.

Only one recoloured element can be found, giving Lloyd’s mech some wings:

  • Creature Body Part, Dragon / Thestral Wing with Bar Connection and Marbled Yellowish Green Pattern in Green (6606286 | 38547)
Previously this wing has come in 3 marbled patterns and 3 single-color variants.

The figures don’t include any new decorations, reusing elements from the January 2026 wave instead.

Lego Ninjago 71863 Zilvar and Gramtak

This set introduces a new enemy: Zilvar, member of the same Tiger Tribe from the South of the Wyldness as Ras, who is riding a Grimtak. Designer Chi Wing has described the beast as a hybrid between a dragon and a gorilla and indeed, the stance of the front legs do resemble those of a gorilla with its fists firmly on the ground.

The set overall is a decent build for its size, and fits the 7+ age mark.

New elements

  • Hipwear, Katana Holder / Scabbard in Dark Red (6588244 | 8011)
Zilvar is wearing his katana on his hips. You can find all the details on the exciting new LEGO scabbard mold (8011) in my review of set 71871 Battle at the Dragon's Blade.

He is also the only figure to come with new decorations. Nya and Lloyd reuse their body parts from the January 2026 wave:

  • Legs with print in Pearl Titanium (6606132 | 117447)
  • Torso with print in Pearl Titanium (6607104 | 76382)
  • Minifig Head Special Lion/Tiger with print in White (6607138 | 117667)

Aside from the minifigures, all new decorations are handled by a sticker sheet.

Rare elements

These 2 elements are not new, but have appeared in only 1 set prior to the release of this set:

  • 1x Creature Body Part, Dragon Head Upper Jaw, Hollow Eyes, Spikes in White (6544727 | 3770)
  • 1x Brick Special 1 x 1 with Studs on 2 Sides in Medium Lavender (6510325 | 47905)

71864 Kai and Cole's Combiner Vehicles

  • Release date: 1 June 2026 for most countries, 1 August for North America
  • Pieces: 394
  • Ages: 7+
  • Price: US$39.99/ £24.99/ 29,99€/ AU$49.99
Note the surprising cost difference in the US; that equates to around £29.80/ 34,50€.

Lego Ninjago 71864 Kai and Cole’s Combiner Vehicles

Kai and Cole are on the hunt for an Ice Monster, stalking the new creature on their vehicles.

As the name of the set suggests, the vehicles can be combined: both the buggy and the bike can be broken into a front and a back half, then swapped around to form trikes – a very nice feature, adding to the playability of this 394-piece set.

New elements

The set comes with a single recolor, used in the bike:

You wait since 2009 for this wheel to come in gold, and then two come along at once: 42223 1966 Ford GT40 MKII Race Car introduced them in metallic gold (6590297) in January 2026.

  • Ice Monster Head in White (6575800 | 7878)
  • Hips and White Medium Legs with print in White (6606127)
  • Torso with print in White (6608556)
The Ice Monster is a new character, introducing a new head mold. The same mold is also used for the Fire Monster, as can be seen in my review for 71869 Land Bounty. Its torso and legs feature a new print.

Kai and Cole minifigures from 2026 Ninjago Lego sets.

Kai and Cole are repeats from the January 2026 wave.

Other decorations are handled by a sticker sheet.

Rare elements

These elements are not new, but have appeared in only 1 set prior to the release of this set:

  • 2x Bracket 1 x 6 - 2 x 6 Inverted in Light Bluish Gray (6593247 | 5090)
  • 1x Plate Round Half 2 x 4 with 1 x 2 Cutout in Dark Bluish Gray (6602847 | 7531)
  • 1x Slope Curved 4 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Red (6522833 | 6929)
  • 1x Slope Curved 4 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Red (6522831 | 6930)

71865 Zane's Ice Dragon Battle

  • Release date: 1 June 2026 for most countries, 1 August for North America
  • Pieces: 141
  • Ages: 4+
  • Price: US$39.99/ £34.99/ 39,99€/ AU$64.99
So, the most expensive set in this article has just 141 pieces.

The final set is aimed at the 4+ age mark, which means the build is basic and simplified. Still, we get some nice new elements along with 4 minifigures, and the little side build suggests the Dragon Claws may be items to be chased in the second half of Dragons Rising season 4.

New elements

  • Brick Special 4 x 10 with 4 x 6 Recessed Center, Wedged Ends (6564240 | 7680)
The LEGO 4+ sets often come with large, unusual parts, and this one is no exception. This rather awkward brick is, at least, fully in LEGO® System: the inverted slope matches the Slope Inverted 33° 3 x 1 (4287), and the wedged top lines up with Wedge Plate 2 x 4 (51739).

Lloyd’s dragon gives us two icy recolors, including a very useful one:

  • 2x Plate 2 x 2 in Light Aqua (6606756 | 3022)
  • 2x Creature Body Part, Dragon, Wing Large in Light Aqua (6609284 | 5973, 5981)

Both the dragon and the snake come with newly decorated heads:

  • Creature Body Part, Dragon Head Lower Jaw with Pointy Chin with print in Dark Purple (6601073 | 117143)
  • Creature Body Part, Dragon Head Upper Jaw with Spikes with Trans-Light Blue Pattern with print in White (6602921 | 117262)

  • 2x Legs with print in Dark Purple (6601072)
The decorations on Lloyd and Sora were introduced in the January 2026 wave, as were the Acid Monsters. But where the villains previously came with snake tails, they feature regular legs here.

Rare elements

These elements are not new, but have appeared in only 1 set prior to the release of this set:

  • 1x Animal, Dragon Leg Right with Black Pin in Dark Blue (6576354 | 114888)
  • 1x Animal, Dragon Leg Left with Black Pin in Dark Blue (6576400 | 114912)
  • 1x Animal Body Part / Plant, Tail / Neck / Branch / Trunk, Middle Section with Pin Holes in White (6559524 | 5717)
  • 2x Plate Special 1 x 2 [Open O Top Clip] in Dark Purple (6585188 | 44861)

Conclusion

After reviewing the 2 larger sets from the batch we received (see my reviews of 71869 Land Bounty and 71871 Battle at the Dragon's Blade), these smaller sets are naturally less impressive. Still, there is value to be found.

Lloyd's Dragon Mech brings nothing new or special, but is a great, small and relatively cheap set for 6 year-olds, including 3 minifigures.

Grimtak, a mix of gorilla and dragon, results in a fierce foe to battle, but is very light in new elements, with only its rider Zilvar bringing unique items. For the 7+ demographic, it is a good build though.

Kai and Cole's Combiner Vehicles is for me the best set out of the bunch: the vehicles themselves are what we expect from LEGO Ninjago, with the combiner function adding to the fun. The Ice Monster is a nice addition, but feels outmatched against 2 vehicles. It is not as good value for those buying at the US value of $39.99 compared to the rest of the world, but still worth considering.

Zane's Ice Dragon Battle is a true LEGO 4+ set: simple to build, and mostly large elements. It does its job fine and has a decent selection of parts and minifigures, but with a price tag of 39,99€ for just 141 parts, it's a pass for me.

The designer may say Grimtak is a gorilla-dragon, but all I see is a skeletal Beast Wars Torca / Elephorca
