Great engines crawled across the field; and in the midst was a huge ram, great as a forest-tree a hundred feet in length, swinging on mighty chains. Long had it been forging in the dark smithies of Mordor, and its hideous head, founded of black steel, was shaped in the likeness of a ravening wolf; on it spells of ruin lay. Grond they named it, in memory of the Hammer of the Underworld of old.
– J. R .R. Tolkien
The set features a LEGO Grond ram and 2 Orc minifigures.
We reckon the olive green head is an exclusive print! We can't spot any more recoloured or printed pieces in the model, though.
The back of the box reveals that the battering ram is functional, which is not a huge surprise – I reckon even I could engineer that!
This is a must-have GwP for LotR fans, but given the scale of Minas Tirith, maybe it's your wallet that will take the battering?
Watch out for our upcoming review of the Grond GwP as well as Minas Tirith.

I'm so excited for this!
ReplyDeleteNo Denethor-launching function? Disappointing.
ReplyDeleteBoromir would have included such a function. ;-P
DeleteFor the same reason I always skip LSW UCS sets that are not minifigure scale/aimed I will skip this one. I'm not too interested in putting a huge white castle in my cabinets that doesn't feature any dynamic through minifigures. I absolutely love the inside, but it doesn't warrant a €650 pricetag for me. The figures look lovely, but that's almost the standard with LOTR LEGO it seems. I hope with Rohan we get a similar design but smaller/cheaper perhaps.
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't need to get the GWP to have some orcs to play with. This set needs way more minifigures.
