Review: 76344 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors' Edition from LEGO® Marvel

Posted by Eero

Many LEGO® Super Heroes sets have relatively little to offer for hobbyists not interested in elaborate minifigures. Action figures are a staple in the super hero merchandise, and the recent efforts in this field have been varying in quality. 76344 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors' Edition takes a more statuesque approach, but presents a whole Iron Man instead of mere bust or a helmet. As a human character build, it looks like one of the best so far.

Interesting pieces

Recolours

We begin with delicious dark red shapes – plus a bonus reviewer selfie.

  • 2x Windscreen 2 x 4 Half Dome in Dark Red (6595737 | 81911)
  • 2x Dome 6 x 3 x 3 Half in Dark Red (6594253 | 7202)

  • 10x Animal / Creature Body Part, Claw with Clip in Dark Red (6594957 | 3171)

An anatomically correct number of fingers is included, indicating the difference between regular and Collectors' Edition sets. They look eerily like chilli peppers.

  • 4x Tile Round 2 x 2 Half Circle in Dark Red (6593268 | 5520)
  • Tile Special Round 2 x 2 Inverted in Dark Red (6594254 | 3567)
  • 2x Slope Curved 4 x 1 Inverted in Dark Red (6594240 | 13547)
  • 2x Plate Special 1 x 2 with Clips Horizontal [Open O Clips] in Dark Red (6584061 | 60470b)

The round tiles are still somewhat new moulds, but I'm surprised that the inverted curved slope and the clip plate have not appeared in dark red before.

  • 18x Slope 30° 1 x 2 x 2/3 in Metallic Gold (6591202 | 85984)

Another surprising recolour, in shining gold.

  • 4x +1 extra Tile Round 1 x 2 Half Circle in Metallic Gold (6592399 | 1748)

The half circle plate is useful to us who have grown tired of lining two adjacent 1x2 quarter tiles.

New prints

There are no stickers in this set.

  • 2x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Mechanical print in Dark Red (6586343)
  • 2x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Propulsor print in Dark Red (6598404)
  • 2x Tile Round 3 x 3 with Mechanical print in Dark Red (6586345)
  • Tile 2 x 6 with "LEGO MARVEL IRON MAN MK3" print in Black (6586342)
  • Tile Round 2 x 2 with Arch Reactor print in Flat Silver (6586344)

While most of the details have been executed with layered pieces, there are some printed rounds, including the crucial arc reactor, and the obligatory brand logos.

Rare parts

Three relatively recent moulds in… blue?

  • Plate 3 x 3 Corner in Blue (6430378 | 77844) - in 2 other sets
  • 2+1 extra x Plate Round 1 x 1 with Hollow Stud and Underside Clip in Blue (6537695 | 5264) - in 2 other sets
  • 6x Technic Brick 1 x 1 with Axle Hole in Blue (6572891 | 73230) - also in 43010 Nike Slam Dunk (see Thomas' review of the LEGO NIKE Slam Dunk set)

These are used inside the model; they symbolise the Arc Reactor's blue glow. Useful pieces.

  • 14x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle in Dark Red (6544515 | 5852)  - in 2 other sets

My favourite piece of 2025, in a splendid quantity.

  • 6x Slope Curved 3 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Dark Red (6423979 | 80177) - also in 76247 The Hulkbuster: The Battle of Wakanda, new EID
  • 6x Slope Curved 3 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Dark Red (6426456 | 80178) - also in 76247 The Hulkbuster: The Battle of Wakanda, new EID

Another pair of great character building pieces, in good quantity.

  • 2x Windscreen 3 x 6 x 1 Curved with Rectangular Stud Holder in Bottom in Dark Red (6598892 | 62360) - New EID, also in 76247 The Hulkbuster: The Battle of Wakanda
  • Slope Curved 4 x 3 with 3 Layers, 1 x 3 Cutout on Underside in Dark Red (6461939 | 66955) - in 2 other sets

More useful and elegant pieces for armour building.

  • 8x Bracket 1 x 1 - 1 x 1 Inverted in Dark Red (6531581 | 36840) - in 2 other sets
  • 3x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Metallic Gold (6546809 | 113603) - also in 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust
  • 3x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Metallic Gold (6546808 | 113602) - also in 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust

The metallic gold curved slope appeared previously as… Iron Man's face. It makes a return here, but is also used behind his knees.

Minifigure

A new Iron Man figure is provided, with arm prints for the first time. Whether this minifigure will become as sought after as Printed Arms Cloud City Boba Fett I cannot say – it is possible that they'll release it in some 20 € set later.

I've never liked this helmet. It looks too goofily oversized. It reminds me of Funko-Pops and such, which is unfortunate. The additional bulk is needed to house the opening function of the visor.

  • Legs Iron Man MKIII in Dark Red (6598408)
  • Torso with Iron Man MKIII print, printed arms in Dark Red (6599832)
  • Minifig Head Tony Stark in Light Nougat (6586337)

Man of Iron

The set depicts Tony Stark in his Iron Man Mark 3 suit of armour, first introduced in the very first Marvel Cinematic Universe movie Iron Man in 2008.

Mr. Man stands 35 cm tall, making him about 1:5 scale. The robust but flowing shapes have been recreated with dark red and metallic gold curved slopes, many of which have been introduced during the last couple of years.

The model was designed by Aaron Newman, who has previously delighted us with animals and creatures in the LEGO® Creator 3-in-1 theme. He certainly knows what's up with living things. We've previously published some of his own designer insights on the LEGO Iron Man statuette from Fan Media Days which is a worthwhile side-read to my verdict here.

The model has tons of presence thanks to its natural but well-balanced posture. The angle of the legs makes Iron Man look firmly standing on his ground, ready to face the deadliest enemies.

The legs are singular chunks without knee joints – knee movement would have been largely useless with a model so heavy – with little movement on the ankles. As such, knee joints don't mess up the shaping, and the lower legs and knees have been shaped wonderfully. The 45° angled 1x1 quarter circle tiles are especially pleasant, and the heavy boots of plastic fill me full of awe.

Strong click rotation joint in the waist helps to give power to the poses – I often utilise a similar trick in my own character MOCs. The head has relatively natural movement. The arms have limited range in the shoulders and hands; the elbows are fixed asymmetrically, which I like, again for making the poses appear natural.

Furthermore, the lower arms can rotate. These joints are clearly a compromise between sturdiness and some posing options, often featuring palms with their blast repulsors facing outwards. I consider this design successful.

The round shapes continue to the back. Overall, the model feels very beefy, but not at all sluggish.

The shoulders have flaps that open, faithful to the original – and showcasing new-ish 1x4 curved wedge slopes (5415).

The hand design is interesting, using curved bars (7052) designed for the F1 collectable mini-cars. One end of the bar terminates neatly in the thumb joint, and Iron Man has an appropriate number of fingers – not an easy feat at this scale. The fingers look tad thin, but I overall like the design.

The head has a surprise: the mouth opens! This improves upon the earlier design in similar scale in 76327 Iron Man MK4 Bust, released in June 2025. This new version looks less sad.

Some might object to the studs on plates on the sides of the head, featuring dark tan instead of metallic gold. I personally don't mind them.

Is it all good then, are there any shortcomings? Not many, really. I think the pelvis appears a tad too wide, as there is a 2-module-wide armour strip between the legs. Generally, human upper legs are quite close to each other when standing upright. The issue is less severe on this stance with legs slightly spread out, but it's still a bit difficult to imagine a human being inside those trousers without the poor hero dislocating their hip; a classic Samus issue.

Furthermore, some might mourn the lack of humorous posing options – the image above is the best I could do.

The base itself is simple, featuring sturdy connections. Iron Man can easily be lifted with it and shaken around without bits falling off.

Finally, an extra, unpromoted feature: Iron Man can stand up firmly without the base, as long as you remove some pieces to rotate the Mixel ball plates on the soles. This is a good lesson for character builders: if it looks well-balanced, it usually can stand up – real people are subject to the same gravity rules as LEGO builds.

Conclusion

After the recent 21361 Gremlins: Gizmo (see my review of the LEGO Gizmo) and many excellent LEGO Creator sets, 76344 Iron Man Mark 3 Collectors' Edition once again raises the bar of character set design. It is successful in both looks and structure, packing an impressive presence. For us parts fanatics and MOC builders, it is also a hefty parts pack with a good number of recolours.

The value of US$129.99/ £119.99/ 129.99€/ AU$199.99 for 1297 parts and one new minifigure is pretty good for a licensed set. It's great they make sets with exceptionally good design outside the egregiously expensive price categories. It's difficult to imagine a better LEGO Super Heroes set for grown-ups.

  1. I want this. And I don't even care for the whole Iron Man franchise. I just like a good human character build. I have C-3PO for the same reason. Curious how they will look next to one another.
