Destiny’s Bounty is the most famous (and most crashed) vehicle in the LEGO® NINJAGO® theme. One version that is special to me, 70677 Land Bounty from 2019, has received a make-over and comes back as 71869 Land Bounty. How do the two sets compare?

At the time I fully started writing reviews back in 2019, I was aware of the LEGO Ninjago theme through my diehard-fan daughter. I didn’t know much detail other than the theme song she kept playing on repeat, and watching the The LEGO Ninjago Movie with her (which deviates from the original storyline). Then, Rebrickable offered me 70677 Land Bounty for review. The research sent me down the rabbit hole: while watching the show for the first time, I got hooked.
(WARNING: Spoilers in this next paragraph for Season 4)
At first glance, 71869 Land Bounty appears to be another set in the LEGO Ninjago Legacy line, which are remakes of famous sets from the 15 rich years of LEGO Ninjago history. Indeed, the description on LEGO.com confirms that this is a “...remake of the original fan favorite Land Bounty (70677)”. However, the description also mentions that builders can “...recreate fast-paced scenes from Season 4 of the NINJAGO® Dragons Rising TV show”. I’ve checked episodes 1 to 10 of the 4th season and I can’t find the vehicle present, aside from a quick mention from Jay when regaining his memory. Perhaps the Bounty will drive in somewhere in the upcoming episodes 11 through 20? This means I won’t be able to judge the new version against its on-screen appearance, but I can compare the two LEGO versions.
But first: the new elements used for the remake!
The minifigures
Since most new elements, including the new molds, are found in the minifigures, I’ll start with those.
The ninja are fighting new baddies in Season 4 of Ninjago Dragons Rising. Some were already introduced in the January 2026 releases, and now the Fire Monster joins the ranks.
- Head Special, Monster with Spikes, Trans-Orange pattern in Black (6615501 | 7878)
- Torso with print in Black (6615519)
- Hips and Black Medium Legs with print in Black (6612481)
The Fire Monster head shares similarities to minifigures from themes from the 2009/2010 era. On the left is Jawson from LEGO® Space Police III, and in the center is the Barracuda Guard from LEGO® Atlantis.
- 1x + spare Hipwear, Katana Holder / Scabbard in Dark Red (6588244 | 8011)
- 2x Dragon Claw in Pearl Gold (6575802 | 7879)
The other figures are repeats from the January wave, including the Acid Monster.
Recolors
- 1x Windscreen Round, Sloped 6 x 8 x 2 in Trans-Light Blue (6612333 | 7664)
- 2x Plate Round Half 4 x 8 in Reddish Brown (6618257 | 22888)
- 1x Windscreen Round, Sloped 6 x 8 x 2 in Reddish Brown (6610216 | 7664)
- 3x Plate 1 x 5 in Reddish Brown (6618258 | 78329)
I can imagine the reddish-brown windscreen being used at the base of a large tree trunk.
Decorations
Aside from the Fire Monster, there are no new decorated elements to be found. We do get a sticker sheet.
Other pieces of interest
These elements are not new, but have appeared in only 1 or 2 sets prior to the release of the Land Bounty.
- 2x + spare Tile Round 1 x 2 Half Circle in Reddish Brown (6603350 | 1748)
- 1x Wedge Tile 2 x 2 Right in Black (6597247 | 7829)
- 1x Wedge Tile 2 x 2 Left in Black (6593854 | 7828)
- 2x Slope Curved 2 x 1 No Studs [1/2 Bow] in Trans-Black (6542245 | 3593)
- 2x Hinge Cylinder 1 x 2 Locking with 2 Click Fingers and Axle Hole, 7 Teeth in Red (6614513 | 57360) was introduced in May in 77984 Jurassic Park Jeep Wrangler. See Tom’s review of the LEGO Jurassic World Jeep.
- 1x Slope Curved 1 x 6 in Reddish Brown (6573543 | 6801)
- 1x Fin Jagged with Axle Hole in Red (6441688 | 76919) appeared in 71794 Lloyd and Arin's Ninja Team Mechs in 2023
- 1x Slope Curved 4 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Red (6522831 | 6930) and 1x Slope Curved 4 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Red (6522833 | 6929) are on the verge of being recolors, only appearing for the first time in May 2026
The model
The model is split into 3 sections: the base is formed by joining a terrain buggy and a motorcycle, and the top can detach and fly off.
The buggy has functioning steering, but the control is placed awkwardly, right on top of the suspension. Later on the reason for this will become clear: when fully assembled, Lloyd is actually facing backward, and the steering is easily accessible from the back of the cockpit.
It looks decent, but the balance is way off, tipping the motor over. For these photos I’ve added a hidden brick to stabilise it.
The motor can be folded up and attached to the back, or rather, the front of the buggy. It can be left off, though, while the flying section is attached.
I hoped the section could be opened up again to allow access, but it’s fully integrated in the model. Instead, a hatch is added at the top.
The sides of the ship are held in place by clips, shaping the top of the bow. As you can see, the inside of the vessel stays pretty bare.
Then, it’s back to LEGO Technic System:
In the back we find a mechanism that serves two functions. Pulling the beam in the back will hinge open the wings and engines, and release the ship from the buggy below.
The finished ship looks great in flight mode.
When the engines are tilted down, it is necessary to land the craft onto the buggy as they hit the ground before the haul does, stressing the mounts of the engines. So for these photos, I’ve placed the craft on a stand.
Let’s see all the functions in motion:
Comparison of sets 71869 and 70677
The model follows the design from the show pretty well, and forms a large base to play off of, with only a small section detaching to take flight. The front and middle wheels can steer and the spinners spin when driving the vehicle, to deter enemies.
The haul is spacious with some nice details like an arcade machine and a canon on a liftarm. Plus, I am always a sucker for cloth sails.
The new version is definitely different. Whether this is in line with the on-screen version is as yet unknown.
The buggy has a single steering axle and lacks spinners, but does come with a detachable motorcycle for more play fun. Where the original has a small flying section, here the entire upper structure can take flight. I think I prefer this approach, as you basically get 4 vehicles in a single model.
Compared to the original, this Bounty is less bounteous with the space offered for the characters to move around in, both on deck and on the inside, and with fewer items to interact with. The overall look is much more sleek and streamlined, where the original is big and bulky, with odds and ends sticking out.
I am a LEGO Technic fan, but I think we get a bit of an overload here. Some assistance from LEGO Technic parts is fine in a LEGO System set, but they play a major role here. The resulting functions are fun and add to the playability, but the balance feels off. I wonder how you feel about this?
That might all sound a bit negative, and to be fair, some bias might be what makes me prefer the original version over the remake. I do feel its details give the model more personality. The remake is good enough in itself, and maybe the lack of detail conforms to the new on-screen version, but when placed side by side, the original does stand out to me.
Conclusion
Judging the set on its own merits, I am decently satisfied with the overall looks and certainly the functionality.
Considering its 1214 parts, the amount of new elements is pretty low for those looking for those. I expect the recolors to appear on Pick a Brick in a few months, and perhaps Lloyd’s claw and Nya's holster might follow the dragon tail which is already listed there, which makes only the Fire Monster unique to this set for now.
I think LEGO Ninjago fans won’t mind though, as the model shines in playability.
