Stickers
Each set has two sticker sheets, both for the visor. The smaller of the two appears to be the same for both sets and yet they have different identification numbers.
The two sheets contain nine stickers in total, but only three are used: spares are provided as there's an increased chance of messing up when sticking stickers onto this large curved element!
The smaller sheet has one spare of the two required stickers. The larger of the sticker sheets provides options: the long thin sticker (no. 3) can be used and there's a spare if you muck it up; alternatively three smaller stickers (no. 4/5/6) offer a simpler application process if you prefer.

The builds

When the new visor is attached, the pin holes hold it in place, as it is not designed to be raised. This makes sense as it would be a bit odd to raise the visor to view plain black slopes, but perhaps having the attachment via pin holes angled this way also limits its use in MOCs where tilting would be useful.
Bag 5 completes most of the front of the helmet, with just the back remaining. There's quite a few one-stud and bar-clip connections across the top of the visor and to either side of the Ferarri printed windscreens. These are a little fiddly, and require care to complete.
Most of the new moulds are involved in the outer shell of the helmets. The crown area uses both the Plate Round Corner 5 x 5 with 2 x 2 Cutout (8008) and Panel 5 x 5 x 3⅓ Corner, Curved Top (8010) as seen in the top image above, while the other large slopes are used on the sides.
Differences
Other than the obvious differences in terms of minifigure, helmet colour and print designs, there are only two differences between the Hamilton and Leclerc versions.
The first I have already mentioned: the initial base section is a mirror image, resulting in the minifigures standing on opposite sides when viewed from the front. The second is a very small difference in one section of the build that results in a variation in piece count.
Leclerc has 886 elements, while Hamilton has 884 elements. The source of this difference can be found in a sub-assembly at the rear of the model. While Hamilton uses a single 1x4 tile on each side, the red and white colours of Leclrec's helmet require two 1x2 tiles, hence the two extra elements.
Final views

The final helmet really looks impressive at this scale. The internal structure is mind-bogglingly complex, but the instructions are clear. Each sub-assembly clicks into place in a most satisfying manner. Yes, there are few gaps – around the forehead area in particular – but honestly, the shaping is so good that only the most pernickety will criticise.
Price wise, at £79.99/ $89.99/ €89.99 for 884 or 886 parts gives a price per piece of 9.0p/ 10.2c/ 10.2c. Given there are a host of printed parts and 6 new moulds (seven if you count Sir Lewis Hamilton's hair in 43022) then the price does not seem too bad.
On the other hand, the helmets are smaller than you might imagine at 18 x 11 x 13 cm, but heavy thanks to that dense interior.

In June 5925 won't be exclusive to Trans-Clear anymore, it's coming in both Magenta and Blue Violet in set 42704 Heartlake City Grand Hotel.
ReplyDeleteReally appreciate the review, Elspeth! I have little to no interest in the IP, but I thoroughly enjoyed being able to see some of the elegant and complex techniques the design team used to sculpt these models. Thanks for your work on this one!
ReplyDeleteNice review! The introduction of new parts with a 5x5 curve is very neat. The panel is a nice alternative to the 5x5 quarter dome brick (and would work great in transparent colors as a window or windscreen), and the plate's usefulness speaks for itself! I would love to see more 5x5 and 6x6 curved parts in the future (both rarer curves but ones that are used elsewhere in the Lego system).
ReplyDeleteNot pictured: One of these helmets hilariously (if misguidedly) affixed to the Tuxedo Cat.
ReplyDeleteNot our style I’m afraid, I’m sure someone else might do that hilarious trick
