Man, this set really tickles my love of narratives built through dense and interwoven spaces. The continuity of being able to trace a path from the enclosed center up a stone stairway, through an angled door, up a ladder, out to a balcony, up another ladder, around a corner, and then into a furnished office space is just so pleasing.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! This set is super impressive, and I love how it uses a wide variety of dissimilar angles to create a layout that still joins up perfectly. It's a nice change of pace from the Ninjago City series, which is fantastic but mostly limited to a rectangular grid.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I can help with a few of the easter eggs you missed:
ReplyDeleteSticker #5 is the scroll about the Yin-Yang Eclipse from the "Day of the Departed" Halloween special.
Sticker #13 translates to "SHADOW THEATRE" and references Bonzle's shadow puppet show explaining her origins in Dragons Rising season 2.
On sticker #16, The bird logo marked "RC" is the insignia of the Red Crows from the Garmadon comics, a gang formed from remnants of the Sons of Garmadon (hence the SOG logo being crossed out with the same red paint). The two posters both reference the Spinjitzu Brothers chapter books: a PUPPET SHOW poster from "The Lair of Tanabrax", and a MISSING poster for Mindaro from "The Curse of Chroma".
Sticker #33 is specifically the Mirror of Dread from the Explorer's Club in season 11, which shows Lloyd an image of his greatest fear (becoming like his father).
Sticker #34, with "S" written in Ninjargon, is the Scroll of Forbidden Spinjitzu from season 11 (in previous sets, it was a plastic film element rather than a stickered tile).
Thanks! I've updated the article to add in the missing easter eggs you flagged. That should leave the list more-or-less complete.
DeleteSlightly surprised that black is a new colour for the frog given Lego designers’ penchant for using it.
ReplyDeleteI think the designers missed a trick by not using frogs on the cherry tree in homage to set 10281
Is that a light bluish grey zipline handle (part 30229) hanging on the wall in the storage space above Dr. Saunders' office? If so, then this is a new recolor, as the part has only existed previously in dark bluish grey (as well as old dark grey).
