Posted by tobymac

Since 2019, LEGO has released sets focused on the Spring Festival, the 15-day celebrations marking the start of the Chinese new year. With the upcoming celebrations for the Year of the Horse running from 17 February to 3 March 2026, three sets come galloping in to commemorate the occasion: 40864 Fortune Master spreads good luck, 80118 Fortune Firecracker starts the year with a bang, and 80119 Galloping Horses Canvas brings success upon arrival of the new year.

This set appears to represent Caishen, God of Fortune or Wealth. Especially during the Lunar New Year, Caishen is invoked in hopes for a prosperous year.

New elements

The set brings us only one recolor, but builders of large figures will surely find good use for it:

  • 4x Tile Special 1 x 1 with Clip with Rounded Edges in Light Nougat (6592935 | 15712)

The other new elements are decorations.

We get 7 gold coins and a red envelope (红包 – hóngbāo) containing money, given out during the New Year for good luck.

  • 7x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Gold Coin print in Pearl Gold (6574681)
  • 1x Tile 2 x 4 with Red Letter print in Red (6595292)

Rare elements

These elements are not new, but have appeared in only 3 sets or less:

  • 1x Barrel 2 x 2 x 2 in White (6511452 | 26170)
  • 2x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Metallic Gold (6546809 | 113603)
  • 2x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Metallic Gold (6546808 | 113602)
  • 1x Plate Angled 3 x 3 with Heart Shape in White (6544448 | 39613)
  • 1x Tile Round 1 x 2 Half Circle in Dark Turquoise (6491440 | 1748)
  • 2x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle in Red (6547139 | 5852)

To create the face of the Fortune Master, the set contains 19 different elements in Light Nougat, including these rare appearances:

  • 2x Brick Round Corner 2 x 2 Macaroni (6546469 | 85080)
  • 2x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle (6547144 | 5852)
  • 6x Slope Curved 2 x 1 Inverted (6492197 | 24201)
  • 1x Dome 1 x 1 x 2/3 (6573537 | 6908)
  • 2x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Left (6480356 | 29120)
  • 2x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Right (6480371 | 29119)

The model

The set is built in sections.

First up is the body, which is then placed on a stand, surrounded by coins and gold ingots (or sycee, 元宝 – yuánbǎo). Then the head is added, placed at an angle using a Technic connector. Nothing too special in terms of techniques, but the result is cute, although I won’t fault you if you find the face on the creepy side.

The Fortune Master is provided with 3 sets of eyes; which is your preference?

Fireworks are a big part of the New Year celebrations. Originally, the noise was used to scare off evil spirits, but it evolved into welcoming the God of Wealth with blessings and a fresh, prosperous start of the Lunar New Year.

Recolors

The set brings us 2 non-minifigure recolored pieces.

  • 16x Plate Round 4 x 4 with Pin Hole in Dark Turquoise (6578764 | 60474)

  • 14x Wedge Plate 3 x 3 Cut Corner in Pearl Gold (6508098 | 2450)

Decorated elements

Like the Fortune Master, there is no sticker sheet included in the set. Instead, we get five new printed elements.

  • 1x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Gold Coin print in Pearl Gold (6574681), the same as found in Fortune Master
  • 3x +1 spare Tile Round 1 x 1 with Gold Coin print in Pearl Gold (6574685)
  • 1x Tile 1 x 2 with Red Letter print in Red (6574684)

  • 2x Minifig Head with Gold Horses print in Trans-Red (6574682)

  • 8x Cylinder Half 2 x 4 x 5 with 1 x 2 cutout with print in Red (6574683)

Minifigures

The set is inhabited by six figures, three of which bring new elements.

The bloke in the red dress is the God of Fortune. He comes with a new torso in red (6584301) and a new dress in red (6574687). The child wears a new torso in Sand Green (6584295) and recolored short legs in Medium Azure (6524757 | 41879). The father is wearing the same new torso as the kid.

The grandparents and mother don’t have any new elements but the grandfather’s hair is rare, as it appeared in just 3 sets prior to appearing here in White (6550854 | 23186).

Rare elements

These elements are not new, but are worth mentioning as they have appeared in 3 sets or less:

  • 8x Cylinder Half 2 x 4 x 5 with 1 x 2 cutout in Red (6442904 | 35313)
  • 3x Bracket 1 x 6 - 2 x 6 Inverted in Red (6477769 | 5090)
  • 2x Brick Special 1 x 2 x 1 2/3 with 8 Studs on 3 Sides in Red (6542271 | 67329)
  • 2 x Brick Special 1 x 2 with 1 Center Stud on 1 Side in Dark Red (6488441 | 86876)
  • 12x Wedge 4 x 4 Facet in Reddish Brown (6470000 | 14413)
  • 8x Plate Round Corner 2 x 2 with 1 x 1 Cutout in Blue (6551598 | 79491)
  • 13x Tile Round 1 x 2 Half Circle in Dark Turquoise (6491440 | 1748)

The model

The set consists of a box with doors, revealing one of two scenes, with eight fire crackers hanging underneath. Eight (八 – bā) is a lucky number, as it sounds like the word for ‘to become rich’ (發 – fā).

The scenes depict people lighting fireworks and bringing offerings to the God of Wealth.

The box forms the main part of the build, with an octagonal shape and many gold decorations. One of the scenes can be slid into the box.

The set description states that while one scene is placed, ‘the other can be played with’, but I would have liked some way to store it behind the box instead of leaving it out loose. When the lids are closed, pressing the button will push out the scene and open the doors.

Unfortunately, the scene is pushed out only by about 2 modules, leaving the doors merely ajar.

The firecrackers have loose 1x1 round plates inside of them, making a rattling sound when you pull and release the string into the wall; a nice idea but sounding more like a baby dropping its rattle.

I like the looks of the model, but the issues I mentioned dampen my enthusiasm.

Lego Spring Festival 80119 Galloping Horse Canvas

17 February 2026 marks the start of the Chinese year 4722, which is Year of the Horse (Fire Horse, to be specific). Horses hold an important place in Chinese culture, both in a practical sense as well as symbolic. For the new year, it stands for strength, energy, passion and dynamism.

Set 80119 Galloping Horses Canvas depicts a canvas of a brush painting with 4 galloping horses. Additionally, four brick-built horses come leaping off the canvas. The total of 8 horses symbolize quick success, wealth, and prosperity.

New molds

The set brings us 3 new molds, with the third shown in the minifigure section.

Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 Quarter Dome (5848)

We have seen the introduction of many new curved elements in 2025, and here is one for 2026.

Several existing curves have been updated recently, losing one plate height from their straight bottom section, like Brick Arch 1 x 3 x 1 2/3 (5843) and Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 with Curved Top (5841), as discussed in my overview of new parts in the January 2025 LEGO® Friends wave.

One curve left out of these updates was Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 1/3 Quarter Dome (1871), a relative newcomer introduced in 2023 (read Kev’s review of set 76911 007 Aston Martin DB5 discussing this part), but now it lost its straight bottom as well, resulting in the Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 Quarter Dome. And as a great treat, we get this new mold in 4 colors immediately, all useful neutrals!

  • 2x Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 Quarter Dome in Black (6586474 | 5848)
  • 4x Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 Quarter Dome in Reddish Brown (6587621 | 5848)
  • 4x Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 Quarter Dome in Tan (6587444 | 5848)
  • 4x Brick Round Curved 1 x 1 x 1 Quarter Dome in White (6575549 | 5848)

The lost plate makes the dimension of the part less awkward, but there is a small difference compared to the other shortened curves: the others can easily be lengthened again by simply adding a square 1x1 plate underneath, but there is no quarter round 1x1 plate (yet?) that matches the brick.

The new curve makes it possible to build Brick Curved 2 x 2 x 1 Curved Top, Corner (5846, seen above in bright light yellow) by joining 2x Brick Curved 1 x 1 (7126 , seen above in light grey), which was another curve introduced in 2025. Read Elspeth’s review of 43272 Heihei for a closer look.

Canvas with Painting of Horses (6575806)

This massive piece of stiff plastic cloth depicts a traditional pencil drawing of 4 galloping horses, along with Chinese text reading ‘May you achieve immediate success and be blessed with good fortune’. Spanning 38x26 modules, this is the largest piece of LEGO cloth I have personally seen.

There have been bigger ones, with the sail from 2005 set 7018 Viking Ship challenges the Midgard Serpent the biggest I could find, measuring 45x33 modules.

I’m a bit split on this part: it looks amazing, both on its own and in the model, but in general I prefer brick-built solutions. I don’t think that would be easy to achieve here, other than printing a bunch of tiles – which wouldn’t really be an improvement.

Recolors

We are treated to four recolors:

  • 4x Technic Beam 1 x 15 Thick with Alternating Holes in Red (6580451 | 71710)

  • 13x Plant, Plate 1 x 1 Round with 3 Leaves in Black (6578319 | 32607)

  • 6x Brick Arch 1 x 3 x 1 2/3 Curved Top in Dark Turquoise (6578315 | 5843)
  • 6x Brick Arch 1 x 3 x 1 2/3 Curved Top in Orange (6578316 | 5843)

  • 14x Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 with Curved Top in Bright Light Orange (6578317 | 5841)
  • 2x Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle in Reddish Brown (6578318 | 5852)

Decorated elements

Like the other sets, there is no sticker sheet included here. Instead, we get 3 new printed elements:

  • 1x Tile 2 x 2 with Horse (马 – ) Drawing print in Tan (6581664)
  • 1x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Dark Red Coin print in Pearl Gold (6574681) makes an appearance here as well

The same lanterns found in set 80118 appear here too:

  • 2x Minifig Head with Gold Horses print in Trans-Red (6574682)

Minifigures

The set contains 2 minifigures, both with new elements:

The child sports a new printed torso in yellowish green (6583660).

The man in the horse costume also has a new torso in Red (6585001) and, as is traditional with these Spring Festival sets, wears a brand new headgear: Costume / Mask, Horse in Reddish Brown (6581665). The Design ID is yet unknown, but inside the mask I could spot mold number 114600.

There has been a pretty similar horse mask before, with mold number 18831, first introduced in 2015 and appearing again in 2018. The main difference is the new mask losing the hole for a unicorn horn.

Rare elements

The following elements are not new, but still worth mentioning as they have appeared in 3 sets or less:

  • 9x 11153 Slope Curved 4 x 1 No Studs in Dark Turquoise (6446190 | 11153)
  • 29x Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 with Curved Top in Dark Turquoise (6568019 | 5841)
  • 16x Plant, Plate 1 x 1 Round with 3 Leaves in Bright Light Yellow (6545172 | 32607)
  • 2x Tile Round 2 x 2 Half Circle in Dark Tan (6520568 | 5520)
  • 1x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Dark Brown (6568024 | 5092)
  • 2x Plate 2 x 2 Corner in Dark Green (6541446 | 2420)
  • 9x Cloud / Dust with Bar in Bright Light Orange (6584793 | 68547)
  • 19x Brick Curved, 3 x 1 with 1/3 Inverted Cutout in Bright Light Orange (6490806 | 70681)

The model

We start with a small table, on which a girl is painting a scroll.

On to the main model. The base is made out of stacked plates. At the front section, a load of curved bricks simulate magical smoke or fire. Building them is a bit tedious though.

The model involves some LEGO® Technic elements as well, with a crank being geared down to move liftarms. With a 9x speed reduction, they move pretty slow when cranking by hand, so for the video later on I’ve used a Power Functions motor.

The painting is coming to life, and four of the horses take physical form and jump out of the canvas.

The horses look great, but are very repetitive. They are not all identical though; there are two types of heads. The tan and white horses look straight ahead, while the reddish brown and black have their heads tilted. The black horse is still emerging from the smoke and has not taken full form yet.

The hind legs are fixed by an axle, while the front legs can rotate on pins. For the painting, the hind legs are stretched back, but you can easily flip them 90 degrees for a normal stand.

The new curved bricks are used in the horses. I noticed all of them are placed on a 1x1 plate, so I suspect the new mold was developed as part of the general overhaul, and the designer originally intended to use the longer version but had to make a last-minute change.

The result is stunning, with the horses looking alive and dynamic. It even looks better in motion, so here is a video:

The side build can be attached to the main model, giving it the appearance as if the girl is envisioning her canvas coming to life.

While the finished model looks great, I am not fully satisfied. The construction of the base and scroll feels a bit standard, and while the horses are a more intriguing build, they become repetitive fast. Still, I can’t fault the result, and the added LEGO Technic makes it a great display piece to play with.
