Tile Special 2 x 2 with Ring (6805) from LEGO® Classic

We spotted a new mould that, at time of writing, can only found in two LEGO® Classic sets from January 2025: 11042 Creative Happy Box and 11040 Magical Transparent Box.

It's a 2x2 tile with a vertical ring, and seems to be a way to hang models in the two classic sets. We are sure it offers more creative possibilities than that, so let's set the New Elementary Hive Mind to work and take a closer look.

About the Modified Tile 2 x 2 with Ring (6805)

So far there are only two sets with Tile  2 x 2 with Ring (6805) and it only comes in white (6508987):

• 4x in 11042 Creative Happy Box 
• 4x in 11040 Magical Transparent Box - which you can read more about in our parts review.

The tile portion is a 2x2 tile, while the 3.18mm ring is 3 modules in diameter.  

It matches 1 x 1 Stud with 3 x 3 'Sonic' Ring (3917) in many respects but provides a much wider base, to increase the clutch of the element.  This makes sense as it has a role as a 'hanging ring' in the two LEGO Creator sets. The central hole in the new element is also slightly different in shape, with a wider, flatter base portion where the ring meets the stud.

There are a couple of other interesting features to the tile segment, notable when compared to another 2x2 modified tile, such as the jumper plate in medium azure above left. Firstly, the new tile base does not have a groove. Obviously the original 2x2 tile from 1965 was also grooveless, but was replaced in 1978 as it was tricky to remove – this new piece, however, comes with its own ring pull! Secondly, the anti-stud on the underside is deeper than usual, extending into the cylindrical base holding the ring.

Family of small round bar parts

It fits into a family of smaller than 4 modules diameter circular bar elements; from left to right we have:

• Tile  2 x 2 with Ring (6805)
• 1 x 1 Stud with 3 x 3 Ring (3917)
• Flotation Ring (30340)
• Chakram (35485)
• Technic Steering Wheel 3 Studs Diameter (2819)

There's an odd man out in this lineup, the chakram, as this element only has one small portion of the ring that is 3.18mm bar in size while the others are 3.18mm all round.

What fits in the hole?

It was very tricky to find an element that would wedge snugly into the central hole. Although the ring has a 3-module diameter, the base means it is not a complete circle. The great minds of New Elementary suggested plenty of elements to try, and the results are in; above left we have too small, centre is just right and on the right we have too big.

We managed to find three rather random elements that have a snug hold. One is the Technic Gear 12 Tooth Double Bevel (32270), as long as you use the correct orientation as seen above!

Here is a closer look at the other two:

• Turntable snap (65146)
• Castle Helmet with Chin Guard (3896)

Both of these elements work because they are not complete circles;  the turntable snap  has 4 'legs' that can be orientated to accommodate the base of the ring and the helmet has a visor gap to allow the base to sit inside.

Once the helmet with chin guard (3896) was snug in position, it started to look a bit like a flower pot in a wall mount.

We also thought about the hoop as an architectural detail, perhaps with an element across the diameter.  Out of the 3 examples shown, both the Bar 1L with Clip (3484) and the Bar Holder with Clip (11090) are slightly short, while the Skeleton Arm (6265) is slightly too long.

Tablescraps

Two 2x2 steering wheels (16091) can sandwich the ring thanks to their slightly larger diameter while using the 1x1 plate with vertical clip (44860, 608997) and 1x1 cheese slope (54200) could be useful for creating curves.

What is this? An energy core? I have no idea but it looked nice, and is very secure thanks to those sturdy 2x2 tile bases.
