LEGO® DREAMZzz™ 2024 new parts and minifigures, and design team interview

Posted by Zachary Hill

The LEGO® DREAMZzz™ sets for January 2024 maintain the eclectic, fantastical nature of the theme with five new sets made up of bright shades, sinister baddies and wild mash-ups.

Naturally we're starting with a review of the new and rare parts in the wave. Sharing info along the way are designers Carter Baldwin, Trine Kinch Møller and Freddy Charters, and executive producer Tommy Andreasen. It's a very minifigure-focused wave but that didn't stop the design team from also stuffing in 16 recoloured curves, decorative pieces and more—some in the all-new colour Reddish Orange. Let's enter the Dream World and see what new pieces we find.

Five LEGO DREAMZzz sets are releasing on 1 January 2024; the on-screen versions of about half of these were seen in season one of the show. The rest, as Tommy confirmed, will be seen in season two later this year.

The LEGO Group invited New Elementary to a roundtable interview with Freddy Charters, who designed 71475 Mr. Oz's Space Car; Trine Kinch Møller, who designed 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl; and Carter Baldwin, who designed 71477 The Sandman's Tower. Also present was Tommy Andreasen, an executive producer for LEGO DREAMZzz with similar credits for the LEGO® Legends of Chima and LEGO® NINJAGO® shows.

To bridge the gap between the show and the sets, a few characters from season one get their first minfigures. Plenty of new minifigure parts were made for the first wave released in August 2023, but more characters remained. Between this and updated character designs for season two, one new animal body and wig have been moulded. The process is a joint effort between set designers and parts sculptors.
Trine: We collaborate with the element designers in our team and give feedback on each others' work. As we try to build with their prototypes, we find solutions together.
Carter: We have the element designers sitting right next to us and they're constantly handing us new elements fresh from the printer. We play with them right away and give feedback immediately and ask for the next iteration; the constant back-and-forth is nice.

New minifigure moulds

Carter: In these five sets, Sneak's body and the witch's wig are the new elements. Lots of prints and colour changes too!

Sneak

Hey, Stinkbrains! A mischevous minion serving the Night Hunter, Sneak has a never-before-seen animal body. Since Sneak is included in both 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl and 71477 The Sandman's Tower, we'll cover all his new parts here.

  • Dragon Body Small in Black (6466810 | 5098)
  • Minifig Head Sneak, Asymmetric Yellow Eyes, Drooling Fanged Mouth in Black (6469683 | 28621)
  • Hair, Bat Ears [Plain] in Black (6473341 | 10301)
Structurally, Sneak's body seems pretty similar to the Dreamlings, with a hollow underside and body parts used as unconventional clips. As we've already nicknamed Dreamlings' and Grimspawns' bipedal bodies "Little Dudes," I've taken to calling these new four-legged beasties "Little Dragons."
Carter: Sneak was designed a little bit after the other Dreamling bodies. Stylistically, it's definitely meant to come from the same world.
Freddy: I think Sneak, Snivel, and Susan have always been the evil trio, so they've always been thought about in tandem with each other. We've always wanted there to be that similarity in their DNA.

Sneak has appeared in most episodes since the first, but as a unique dragon-bat-cat-dog-lion-thing, he wasn't a priority for the first LEGO DREAMZzz wave—unlike the widespread Little Dudes. Even with his minifigure version's tardiness, he's still a downright fiend to the Dream Chasers—that business in the Candy Realm doesn't count. This dog sitter doesn't seem to like him much either.

Similar to Little Dudes, Sneak's body fits a standard minifigure head on a tall stud and completes the look with headwear. Both the head and wig are newly-decorated here, with not-quite-Cyclopean eyes printed onto a snarling face, and the first instance of an unprinted slicked back hair & bat ears combo.

The vampiric ears (10301) are now over a decade old, but they've never been produced unprinted. The LEGO® Monster Fighters theme introduced them in 2012, and all six versions prior to now had inner ear fuzz printed on the sides. Unprinted parts are often welcomed, as they allow more building freedom, but this highly specialized minifigure part feels unfinished in nude plastic. There is an upside: omitting printing on Sneak presumably allows decoration budget to go toward the detailed human minifigures in this series.

If you wanted to upgrade the minifigure to look more screen-accurate, LEGO® Minifigures Series 8's Vampire Bat includes black ears with grey fuzz, much like Sneak's on-screen appearance. Should TLG ever produce a premium Sneak, the ideal version would include vaguely bat-shaped metallic pink stripes on the body.

Little dragons have 2 x 2 feet and take up 2 x 3 x 2 modules overall. If you prefer traditional dragon-dog-lion measurement done at the shoulder, that's four plates from the bottom of the, um, paws I guess? The tail tip doubles as a clip, situated one plate above the shoulders and one below the top of the neck stud. The bottom has no antistuds except the outside corners, and the opening is too big to clutch anything past the feet.

Besides the similarity to Little Dudes, one other part comes to mind. Little Dragon is similar to LEGO® Racers Driver (41850) from 2002–2003; not so much in shape but in terms of construction. Both have a character base with a 2 x 2 bottom, open on the inside, and have a neck stud for a minifigure head.

Never Witch's hair and crown

  • Hair, Long Wavy with Bun and Black Pointed Crown in Vibrant Coral/ Coral and Black (6466801 | 105039)
This new wig accompanies a newly-printed minifigure, the Never Witch, which we'll hear about from Tommy down in the 71477 Sandman's Tower section. As for this hair and crown combo, I love the sculpting, particularly the crown. It's somewhat like the Nightmare King's crown with its imposing points, but more refined and elegant. The raven seems to represent one of the Never Witch's animal familiars seen in season 1, but this is a newer design than her headwear's season 1 appearance.

Rare parts in 71471 Mateo's Off-Road Car

Moving upward in set number, price, or part count puts Mateo's Off-Road Car first on our list. With the adorable Z-Blob constantly transforming throughout the series, it's no surprise there's already a second Z-Blob-centric set. No new parts are in this set, but some recently introduced parts return.

  • 4x Brick Round 2 x 2 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes in Transparent Bright Green/ Trans-Bright Green (6430877 | 1986)
  • 1x Launcher, Weapon Gun / Blaster / Shooter Square in White (6365712 | 69767)
  • 1x +1 extra Light Cover with Internal Bar / Bionicle Barraki Eye with Black Eyes print (Z-Blob) in Transparent Bright Green/ Trans-Bright Green (6434204 | 58176pr0001)
I can't get over how cute little Z-Blob is. For his one of his bigger transformations, the first transparent 2 x 2 45° tubes return after 4 copies appeared only in 71454 Mateo and Z-Blob the Robot, which Eero Okkonen took a look at in June, along with other LEGO DREAMZzz creatures which also use the "maxaroni" tubes which have come to be associated with the theme.
Freddy: It brings a sort of curvaceous DNA to the LEGO DREAMZzz theme, and seemed like the perfect element for it, especially for the amount of creatures we were making with limbs.

New and rare parts in 71472 Izzie's Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon

Sporting perhaps the most pleasant palette of this wave, Izzie's Narwhal has plenty of pastels.

Recoloured elements

  • 4x Brick Round Corner 5 x 5 x 1 without Studs in Medium Lavender (6470195 | 24599)
  • 4x Brick Special 1 x 1 x 1 ⅔ with Studs on 1 Side in Medium Azure (6465292 | 32952)
  • 4x Plant, Leaf 2 x 6 x 1 with 2 Studs in Medium Azure (6470919 | 3565)
Three recoloured parts come in sets of four, such as the somewhat uncommon 5 x 5 round corners now in its first shade of purple, and oft-included 1 x 1 x 1 ⅔ SNOT bricks arrive in their fifth shade of blue. The smooth leaves are new for 2023 and seen mostly in LEGO DREAMZzz and LEGO® Super Mario Donkey Kong sets; these Medium Azure versions are the fifth colour available. There are an identical four leaves also included in 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl.

Printed eye tiles

  • 2x 2 x 2 Tile Round with Medium Lavender Iris and Three White Ovals print (6469662 | 14769)
Do these highlights make my eyes look kawaii? Izzie's narwhal's oversized eyes have dramatic catchlights, probably like the characters in the anime she watches. Dozens of 2 x 2 round tile eye variants exist; this one piles on the cuteness.

Rare Medium Lavender parts

  • 3x Slope Curved 3 x 2 No Studs (6222948 | 24309)
  • 4x Plate Round Half 3 x 6 with 1 x 2 Cutout (6325877 | 18646)
  • 1x Plant, Carrot (6398503 | 20086)
These Medium Lavender recoloured plates have only been in two other sets since 2020, but the curved slopes can usually be substituted for two of the 3 x 1 versions, which are plentiful. The carrot is re-used from this year's LEGO® Avatar sets, but instead of decoration, this time it's used as a funny/ nefarious Grimspawn accessory.
Trine: To showcase one of the fun little details, we have this little guy capturing Bunchu, Izzie's plushie. The way he's doing that is with this "Nightmare Carrot!"

New and rare parts in 71475 Mr. Oz's Space Car

New glistening golden gentlemen

My favourite friendship on the show is between this inseparable duo. Albert the space monkey and Mr. Oz are a steadfast team, and now the team has got matching uniforms. I can only assume these outfits are a season two upgrade, as these suits are far more metallic than their drab but sometimes-armoured Dream World dudes in season one.

  • 1x (+1 extra) Tile Round 1 x 1 with Medium Azure Dream Chasers Hourglass print (469666 | 98138)
  • 1x Minifig Neckwear Armour Space with Shoulder Protection and High Back (6473075 | 72326)
  • 1x Minifig Head Mr. Oz, Double Monocle and Metallic Silver Beard print (6469663 | 28621)
  • 1x Torso, Medium Azure Lines, White Circle, and Gold Plates print (6473071 | 973)
  • 1x Hips with Utility Belt and Legs with Medium Azure Circles print (6469665 | 970)
  • 1x Minifig Head Albert, Dark Orange/Dark Tan Monkey Face, in Black Frame, Dark Turquoise Eyeshadow print (6469667 | 3626)
  • 1x Body Dreamling with Medium Azure/White Circle print (6469668 | 1993)
Mr. Oz, or Sir Oswald as Albert sometimes calls him, is dressed in new prints from head-to-toe. The round tiles with the Dream Chasers emblem is identical to black-on-white versions in both LEGO DREAMZzz waves. The space armour is recoloured gold for the first time, and looks dazzling. Anyone who plays Warhammer with LEGO minifigures will likely want more than a few of those to outfit their army. Little but not least, Albert's head changes from black to gold, keeping the same face, while his Little Dude body is new in Pearl Gold with a new arc reactor print.

Mr. Oz's torso back is printed with a similar style as the front. Albert's head has an open unvented stud (3626); all other heads in this wave are the two-hole vented design (28621).

Recoloured parts

  • 6x Wheel Hard Plastic, Treaded with 7 Pin Holes, Inner Ring (37mm D. x 22mm) in White (6472788 | 1148)
  • 1x Windscreen 6 x 6 x 1 ⅓ in Transparent Blue With Opalescence/ Satin Trans-Dark Blue (6471291 | 3383)
  • 4x Plate 1 x 8 in Reddish Orange (6467485 | 3460)
  • 2x Brick 1 x 2 without Bottom Tube in Transparent Bright Orange/ Trans-Orange (6466832 | 3065)
These 1 x 8 plates are our first taste of tomato soup in LEGO DREAMZzz! Caz Mockett shared our first glimpse at this new 2024 colour Reddish Orange recently; included in two inverted arches in upcoming LEGO® Monkie Kid™ set 80054 Megapolis City 5th Anniversary.

Reddish Orange is a common factor in Mr. Oz's Space Car and many other sets across multiple themes that are getting a LEGO® Space sub-branding in 2024. I hadn't thought of the colour as being space-like prior to the recent reveal of the LEGO Space-branded sets, but it works for a space colour now that I think about the external fuel tanks of real-life shuttles.
Carter: As designers, we're also very excited when there's a new colour. We see the new colour and we're all grabbing handfuls of it, holding it, comparing it, seeing how it looks, and creating cool gradients out of it.
The large glittery windscreen is equally eye-catching, but as for the remaining two elements, I had to do a double-check to confirm they didn't already exist. White hard plastic wheels have been seen continually since the late 1980s, but this is the first time this size has been seen in a colour that's not black or sometimes, very, very dark grey. Trans-Neon Orange 1 x 2 bricks were produced up until 2020; this is the first time their subtler Trans-Orange counterparts have been made.

All of these recoloured parts are used in either the rover or the spaceship that are buildable with the set instructions.
Freddy: There was quite a bit of iteration around the balance between the amount of elements shared in both the A and B models. We didn't want too many spare pieces left over at the end of each model, and it was often a "piece-sharing" exercise to figure out how we could do that.

Braaaaains!

  • 1x Minifig Head with Dark Pink Brain print in Light Purple/ Bright Pink (6469669 | 28621)
Apart from the new printed minifigure elements, Mr. Oz's Space Car is accosted by a Nightmare Squid with a brain in a bell jar—classic horror. To build that, a new brain print has been produced and my brain likes this print best out of the wave. The two sides are indeed different, and each kinda looks like a face. They both have smiles, but I'm not so sure the rest of the faces are friendly.
Freddy: I loved getting this little guy in here, the nightmare creature with the little ol' brain minfigure print inside this dome. It reminds me of the aliens from The Simpsons, Kang and Kodos.

Rare parts

It seems the Nightmare King has really taken a toll on the Insomniacs. Here, Jayden is falling asleep on the rest of the rare parts in Mr. Oz's Space Car:

  • 4x Wheel Arch, Mudguard 2 x 4 x 2 in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6421680 | 35789)
  • 1x Slope Curved 4 x 2 No Studs in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6421207 | 93606)
  • 1x Brick Special 1 x 4 Palisade [Log] in Brick Yellow/ Tan (6468819 | 30137)
Jayden has been in three LEGO DREAMZzz sets and the Bright Light Orange parts have been in two sets prior to this. The tan palisade piece was in 11 sets starting with the original LEGO® Adventurers wave, but it's been absent since 2011.

New and rare parts in 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl

Recoloured parts

  • 2x Brick Round 2 x 2 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes in Spring Yellowish Green/ Yellowish Green (6472800 | 65473)
  • 1x Brick Round Corner, Curved 3 x 3 x 1 Quarter Circle and Bright Reddish Violet/ Magenta Eye Right with 3 Medium Azure Triangles in Spring Yellowish Green/ Yellowish Green (6469682 | 76797)
  • 1x Brick Round Corner, Curved 3 x 3 x 1 Quarter Circle and Bright Reddish Violet/ Magenta Eye Left with 3 Medium Azure Triangles in Spring Yellowish Green/ Yellowish Green (6469681 | 76797)
  • 4x Plant, Leaf 2 x 6 x 1 with 2 Studs in Medium Azure (6470919 | 3565)
  • 3x Brick Round 4 x 4 Dome Top with Round 2 x 2 Recessed, 4 Studs (6472799 | 79850)
  • 4x Plate 1 x 2 in Reddish Orange (6466720 | 3023)
3 x 3 curved corners are new in yellowish green with a decorated eye print, but if you were hoping to build with unprinted versions, then either the waiting continues or the erasing commences. The same leaves from 71472 Izzie's Narwhal Hot-Air Balloon are included here, and we're treated to more of the upcoming Reddish Orange.
Freddy: When we go down to the stock and see elements that are in new colours, we're almost more tempted to use them, just because it's a nod to the fans like, "Here, you can have more of the new colour if you get this set."
  • 6x Flame / Vapor Trail 3 x 14 with Axle Hole and Yellowish Green Marble in Transparent Green With Opalescence/ Satin Trans-Bright Green (6470917 | 1995)
Trine: You're able to dream craft the cat base into either the cat-owl as we know from the show or a cat-peacock. The cat-owl is the flying mode and the peacock is the beauty mode.
Beauty mode is accurate, accomplished with the help of some brilliant plumage. These opalescent vapour trails are the fifth colour combo the exclusive LEGO DREAMZzz element has been produced in. The splattery exhaust mould looks fantastic in glittery plastic, adding dimension to already stunning parts.

Rare minifigures

  • Zoey - Dark Turquoise Cape
    • with Launcher, Weapon Bow in Medium Nougat (6417846 | 80436)
    • and 2x Projectile, Arrow in Transparent Blue/ Trans-Dark Blue (6417847 | 80437)
  • Cooper - Red Racing Driver Suit, Blue Utility Belt
    • +1 extra Minifig Hipwear Utility Belt in Bright Blue/ Blue (6447551 | 27145)
  • Night Hunter
  • Snivel
In addition to Sneak, 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl includes four more minifigures, though all of them came with the first LEGO DREAMZzz wave. All are nicely designed minifigures, but my highlight is the second inclusion of this year's new firing bow from the LEGO® Avatar sets. It's somewhat far from Zoey's three-stringed Guitar Bow she uses in the show visually. On screen, it's blue and turquoise, in the first wave of sets a non-firing version is Medium Lilac/ Dark Purple.

Soon, colour disparities didn't matter any more as I excitedly began testing the bow. It works quite well for its size, though you need the right-sized hands for it. After a few middling launches myself, I recruited my wife's slimmer digits to fire away, which worked consistently better. Kids' hands will do just fine with the bow, which stands taller than minifigures.

The few small differences from screen to minifigure throughout this wave don't matter much to me, but there is one case I wish the figure was screen accurate: Night Hunter's hook hand. His left hand is simply a Silver Metallic/ Flat Silver regular minifigure hand in sets but it's a hook in the show. Arrr!

Rare parts

  • 4x Brick Round 2 x 2 D. Tube with Rotation Joint Ball Half in Earth Blue/ Dark Blue (6435596 | 1994)
  • 5x Brick Round 2 x 2 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes in Earth Blue/ Dark Blue (6449297 | 1986)
  • 4x Technic Brick Special 2 x 2 with Ball Receptacle Wide and Axle Hole, No Arm Holes in Bright Blue/ Blue (6406931 | 67696)
  • 3x Wheel 18 x 8 with Fake Bolts and Deep Spokes with Inner Ring in Warm Gold/ Pearl Gold (6435037 | 13971)
  • 1x Brick Round 2 x 2 Dome Top - Vented Stud with Bottom Axle Holder x Shape + Orientation in Medium Azure (6429058 | 3262)
  • 1x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Yellow Eye, Dark Blue Stripes print in Black (6434233 | 14769pr1275)
  • 1x (+1 extra) Tile Round 1 x 1 with Half Closed Yellow Eye, Dark Blue Stripes print in Black (6434213 | 98138pr0366)
Most of these parts are keeping it in the family, with the Metru blue Maxaroni joints and tubes returning from 71458 Crocodile Car and the eye prints in three LEGO DREAMZzz sets.

Rare parts in 71477 The Sandman's Tower

New minifigures

Two characters seem to have season two updates on the way with updated designs for the Never Witch and Logan. This is the first appearance of the Never Witch and Sandman in minifigure form. Apart from the fellas' hairs and everyone's accessories, every piece here is new.

The Never Witch

  • Hair, Long Wavy with Bun and Black Pointed Crown in Vibrant Coral/ Coral (6466801 | 105039)
  • Minifig Head Dual Sided Never Witch, Red Eyes with Open Fanged Mouth and Bright Pink Eyeshadow / Magenta Triangle print in White (6469677 | 28621)
  • Torso with Gold-Rimmed Magenta Diamonds and Silver Lines, Laced Back print in Black (6475024 | 973)
  • Hips and Legs with Magenta and Silver Dress and Boot Laces print in Black (6469679 | 970)

The Sandman

  • Minifig Head Dual Sided Sandman, Dark Red Monocle, White Eye, Orange Shadows, Dark Red Lines, Silver Streaks and Specks / Determined in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6469674 | 28621)
  • Torso with Dark Red Muscles, Silver and Blue Belt, Orange Shadows, and Silver Streaks and Specks in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6475066 | 973)
  • Hips and Legs with Silver and Blue Belt, Orange and Silver Streaks and Specks in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6468676 | 970)
  • Lower Body, Ghost with Marbled Yellow Pattern in Trans-Light Blue (6475068 | 65227)

Logan

  • Minifig Head Dual Sided Logan, Grinning Fanged Mouth, Blue Fur, Moustache / Angry in Dark Azure (6469671 | 28621)
  • Torso, Hoodie with Dream Chasers Hourglass and "ZZZ MONSTERS," Sleeveless in Black (6475047 | 973)
  • Hips and Legs with Scuff, Blue Lines, Ripped Bottoms, and Dark Azure Fur in Black (6469673 | 970)
Tommy: If you've seen episode 14 of season one, there was a character introduced that seemed to have a bit of backstory with the Nightmare King and Night Hunter. We're going to do quite a bit with her in season two which is also why it's very very cool that she's in this set.
Between these new figures and previous highly detailed LEGO DREAMZzz figs like Izzie and the Nightmare King, this theme continues to produce impressive minifigures. Both the Never Witch and Sandman have copious metallic printing and a swirling mould to complete them. As for Logan, his new design is less novel than his Little Dude form seen in season one, but at least he grew up.

Recoloured parts

  • 2x Plate 1 x 2 (6466720 | 3023)
  • 6x Equipment Oar / Paddle End (6470072 | 31990)
These make The Sandman's Tower the third set of Reddish Orange elements included in this LEGO DREAMZzz wave. More 1 x 2 plates are in 71476 Zoey and Zian the Cat-Owl, and at least two paddle ends have been spotted in 42604 Heartlake City Shopping Mall serving their intended usage. Carter decided to eschew their nautical nature and instead apply them to the wingtips of a giant bird ridden by Izzie.
Carter: I really like the contrast between Reddish Orange  and the dark blue for the bird, creating a fresh, sort of kingfisher colour scheme. It created a nice feather element, of an unusual element for a feather. There's a lot of that with LEGO DREAMZzz; we're looking at elements again in a fresh way to create these organic shapes. We're very much an animal passion-point, creature-first theme, so we look at how we can create new organic interesting animals out of the existing portfolio of parts.

New printed clock face

  • Dish 6 x 6 Inverted (Radar) with Solid Studs, Silver Roman Numerals, Gold Gears, and Yellow Falling Sand Clock print (6469680 | 44375b)
Most of the Sandman's Tower decorations are stickers, but one printed element is included and all the stops have been pulled out for it. This Trans-Clear dish is printed in reverse to allow the pattern to show through the "underside" of the part, which faces outward on the finished model.

A similar style of printing was used in 42125 Ferrari 488 GTE 'AF Corse #51' for the headlights, though the traditional outside of those parts still faced out. One additional feature this print includes is a red alignment mark at twelve o'clock.

Rare parts

  • 1x Bar, Ring 7L Diameter, with 2 Axle Connectors in Warm Gold/ Pearl Gold (6443364 | 79851)
  • 4x Panel 4 x 4 x 13 Curved Tapered with Clip at Each End in Warm Gold/ Pearl Gold (6366167 | 43030)
The Sandman's Tower is no slouch when it comes to including the metallic, dreamy touches seen throughout LEGO DREAMZzz.

  • 3x Plant, Leaves 6 x 5 (6443504 | 2417)
  • 1x Brick Special 1 x 2 with Studs on 2 Sides (6431331 | 52107)
Bright Blue/ Blue foliage returns from 71461 Fantastical Tree House, as does a blue SNOT brick seen twice after being introduced this year.

  • 4x Plate Round Corner 5 x 5 with 4 x 4 Round Cutout in Medium Stone Grey/ Light Bluish Gray (6430583 | 80015)
  • 1x Plate Round 8 x 8 in Brick Yellow/ Tan (6378358 | 74611)
  • 6x Plate Round Corner 4 x 4 in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6453946 | 30565)
  • 1x Bracket 2 x 2 with 1 x 2 Vertical Studs in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6392165 | 41682)
  • 1x Plate Special Round 2 x 2 with Center Stud (Jumper Plate) in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6133933 | 18674)
Some recently-introduced plates see more usage here. The rarest are the 5 x 5 round corner cutout plate and 2 x 2 round jumper, appearing just one set each. They're in 10321 Chevrolet Corvette and 31210 Modern Art, respectively.

  • Rock 1 x 1 Crystal 5 Point in Satin Trans-Purple / Trans-Purple Opal (6442192 | 28623)
I photographed this element separately not only to appreciate it in this colour (also seen in previous LEGO DREAMZzz and LEGO® Disney sets, and the upcoming LEGO® City 60428 Space Construction Mech) but also to appreciate the shape's longevity. At 28 years old, the five-pointed crystal (28623) has only ever been absent from the LEGO catalogue for three of those years. Its different colours have defined eras like Trans-Neon Green crystals in LEGO® Rock Raiders or Chrome Silver in LEGO® Aquazone. To see it still used in exciting colours puts a smile on my face.

Conclusion

From detailed new minifigures and animals to recolours galore and elegant printed parts, LEGO DREAMZzz 2024 sets are showing the advantage of in-house IP when it comes to the breadth of what's possible.

For some builders, the new Reddish Orange might be the highlight. I couldn't resist visualising all the Reddish Orange available in this wave together.

New Elementary will be back shortly with reviews of the wave's builds and features. In the meantime, I leave you with a bit more designer insight into new elements.
Freddy: All of us designers have a wishlist of elements that we would love to see. There's definitely elements that I've wanted for a while that are finally coming in the new stock for us and I can't wait to use them. We definitely have wishlists of parts we can't use right now, but that's part of the creative problem-solving.

  1. Great review! I only recently got into Lego Dreamzzz but I love the show so far and am excited to get characters like Sneak, the Sandman, and the Never Witch!

One of the most exciting new parts to me here are the "Nexo Knights" space wheels in white. Nexo Knights provided tons of great trans neon orange parts that were well-suited to Ice Planet MOCs, but white space wheels are comparatively rare! These ones ought to complement the ones from the original Ice Planet theme well. Would love to get the recent ones from the 4+ Spidey and his Amazing Friends sets in white as well!

The printed clock face in the Sandman's Tower is also gorgeous—there's been similar clock faces in sets like Big Ben, but this one has much more of a steampunk/fantasy feel with exposed gears and metallic detailing. Would be great for "time machine" MOCs.

And the new reddish orange... despite being used across several themes it's still fairly limited in its parts selection, but it looks gorgeous and should be very useful. The range of red-orange colors in the Lego palette has always been slightly limited compared to the range of blues and greens, and this helps to fill a valuable niche.

    1. Glad you enjoyed the read, the variety of new parts in this wave is really astounding. Sneak has no small role in the show so it's great to have a figure of him. The white wheels are completely opposite of the colours previously available, which is always a welcome change and you're right, they'd look great in Ice Planet MOCs!

  3. Thank you so much for the review. You forgot to mention an important aspect of set 71475: The Mr. OZ minifigure can be equipped with Albert's helmet event without removing the armor. I'm really glad that the head of Mr. OZ is only printed on one side.
