One of the most keenly-awaited sets in the June wave of LEGO® Friends releases, 41757 Botanical Garden features a stylish butterfly house with cacti and succulents growing inside, along with an outside pond, overhanging cherry tree and three minidolls. It already seems to be a popular set with the AFOL community, so let's dive straight into the interesting parts included.

The model

Construction begins with the garden pond, then the waterfall side of the hothouse, the larger wing and finally the impressive dome at the top.

The tree growing in the hothouse is surrounded by a seat which the minidolls can use to chill out while enjoying the surrounding flora. There's also a little picnic scene if they get peckish. The model looks very nice from the front, and there is also plenty of access for play at the rear.

The lovely pond is fed by the waterfall from a terrace on the upper level of the hothouse. Two little ducks are swimming happily among the lillypads.

The four butterflies which live in the hothouse can be made to flutter around in a circle by turning them on their mount, which is a fun play feature.

I was disappointed from a MOCers perspective that the set only contains two of the transparent quarter-dome pieces - but thankfully three more will be included in a cheaper set, Igloo Holiday Adventure (due on 1 September) if you don't want to buy a second copy of the Botanical Garden or wait for the secondary market. However, I have already seen plenty of images of MOCs online using multiple copies of this release, so I suspect that may be the plan for quite a few AFOLs.

The cacti and succulents growing inside have been well represented by some unusual elements. As you build the model, the instructions show images of the real flowers so that you know what each represents. Some are also replicated on the back of the box art. I did love the recolour of the minifig Neckwear Fur Collar which is used as Bonsai foliage.

Apart from the lack of four dome pieces, the other aspect of the build which bothered me was the light bluish grey stripes which appear at this corner of the greenhouse. It's due to the 2/3 height bricks being used in the corner column, and because tiles have a groove at the bottom, you can see the grey showing through at the edges. I assume the 2/3 bricks were included in grey so that they are not confused with regular 1x1 white bricks, but since this is aimed at a 12+ audience I would have hoped this was not necessary. I will probably change out the grey for white in my own model.

When the set was first revealed, I had feared that it would be more expensive, but with a price to part value of 7.0p / 7.5c / 7.9c, it feels like it offers reasonably good value for money. The design is very stylish, and if you want to close in the whole model, using two sets provides a nice opportunity for expansion if you have the space available in your city. There are also a decent selection of new and rare parts for those who like to use it as a parts pack.

  1. Hooray for the return of the 1x2x3 window frame in sand green! This should ease the cost of piecing together a brick bank....

    1. Yes our analysis got a little confused about whether it was new or returning! Indeed it is returning, and very welcome.

    2. Is 6444504 right as its new ID ? Brickset lists it as 6468393

  2. Never thought I'd see a corpse flower in LEGO. What a time to be alive!

    2. I'm honestly more surprised that the instruction manual refers to it by its scientific name (Amorphophallus titanum)! Compare how LEGO seemed to go out of their way to AVOID referring to Salix discolor by its common name (American pussy willow) in the product descriptions for https://brickset.com/sets/40588-1 :P

    3. Not after Serial Mom they wouldn't!

  3. Just an all-around lovely set with some fantastic parts! I've already bought and built a copy but it's definitely a tempting prospect to buy another copy to expand it.

The blue morpho butterflies remind me fondly of last year, when for our birthday my sister and I visited a butterfly sanctuary up in Canada. The little plate of fruit for the butterflies to feed from is very accurate!

    1. Sounds gorgeous. I wonder if the set designers got an all-expenses paid trip there too for research? ;)

  4. I mentioned the clear quarter domes in the igloo set when it was revealed and another commenter replied that they seem to be misted, with stars embedded. I just looked again at the set photos on the product page and I think they're right, but we'll see for sure once it comes out.

    2. Looking at the set photos, could those stars be stickers?

    3. Stickers indeed as seen in the Tips&Bricks review: https://www.instagram.com/p/CuuRDZ7InJS

  5. "1x Equipment Pen with Tip and Cap Pearl Dark Grey Print in Silver Metallic/Flat Silver (6446980 | 35809)" also appears in 40600: Disney 100 Years Celebration and 43230: Walt Disney Tribute Camera.

At last a more neutral colouring of this great accessory! Is it really printed though, isn't it dual moulded?

  6. The lego croissant with flat ends in dark orange actually appears in 28 other sets, not 2. I never knew this new mold existed, but its been around since 2019 so it makes sense why there are so many in the most common colour for the original.

    1. Probably a new Element ID causing the author confusion.

  7. While the koi fish printed tile is currently unique to this set, it will be appearing again this August in https://brickset.com/sets/10315-1/Tranquil-Garden, along with another koi fish printed tile with an alternate brown and orange spotted pattern!

    1. Interesting that TLG keeps making new koi print tiles. I was surprised they didn't reuse the designs from 80107.

    2. If Lego has stopped producing a printed part, then the costs for reintroducing it to production or producing an entirely new one aren't too different. I suppose they figured that if they had the choice they might as well introduce even more options for builders.
