LEGO® Friends review: 41730 Autumn's House

Posted by tobymac

The buildings I have reviewed so far in the January 2023 wave of LEGO® Friends sets are all located in Heartlake City. Time to take a trip to the countryside and pay a visit to Autumn, who lives with her family on a ranch just a bike ride’s distance from the city.

The original 5 friends all got their own set showing their house, and it seems the new friends group is continuing that tradition. Join me as I build set 41730 Autumn’s House, where we run into a familiar face.

Animals

Autumn loves animals and lives on a ranch, so I’m a bit disappointed we only get 3 animals in this set. Seeing the big role Milow plays in the first episode, and maybe more in the future, I would have expected to see the little piggy in this set. Some chickens running around would be nice too. But two of the animals we do get are new.

  • Daisy is a new mold: Animal, Dog Big with Brown Eyes, Black Face and Ears print (6429439 | 102361). The same mold is also used for Grace, in Tan, in several January 2023 Friends sets.
  • Animal, Bird, Small with Bright Light Orange Beak, Black Eyes print in Bright Red/  Red (6399031 | 100043) is not new, but has only appeared in a LEGO Harry Potter set.
  • Peanut is both a recolor and a new print: Animal, Horse / Foal, with Brown Eyes, White Pupils and Black Eyelashes Print in Medium Nougat (6416478 | 101143)

New molds

Aside from the dog and some of the minidoll parts, there are 3 new molds in this set.

First up is the Cupboard 2 x 3 x 5 in White (6424600 | 2656). It can best be seen as the tall sibling of 92410 Cupboard 2 x 3 x 2. The lower 2 spaces can both fit the Cupboard Drawer 2 x3 (both the old 4536 and new 78124).

The cupboard comes with a new door: Door 1 x 3 x 5 in White (6409780 | 2657). Note that the door does not fit if any drawers are placed in the cupboard.

In front of the cupboards is the last new mold: Cable,Flexible 21L with 2 Connectors and Bars in White (6409728 | 2630).

It can best be described as a mix between the 27965 Zipline, 22L (above) and 14210 String with End Studs and Minifig Grips 21L (below), using the flexible cable from the zipline and the bar sections from the string.

Recolors

There are 5 elements that appear in a new color:

  • Plate 6 x 10 in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6427403 | 3033)
  • Wedge Plate 6 x 6 Cut Corner in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6427404 | 6106)
  • Tile Round 2 x 4 in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6422093 | 66857)
  • Brick Curved 1 x 4 x 2/3 Double Curved Top, No Studs in Vibrant Coral/ Coral (6422238 | 79756)
  • Plate Special 1 x 4 with 2 Studs with Groove [New Underside] in Bright Yellowish Green/ Lime (6257597 | 41740)

Minidolls

We are introduced to 3 new characters, and see a familiar face return.

Leo

  • Hair Scruffy and Swept Right in Reddish Brown (6284153 | 40938) has previously appeared in only one set in 2019.
  • New print for head, torso and legs

Mia

Yes. That's Mia! From the original friends group. She is all grown up, and Autumn is her child.

  • Recolor for Hair Ponytail Long French Braided in Bright Red/ Red (6430170 | 88286)
  • New print for head, torso and legs

Autumn

Autumn has a congenital limb reduction, meaning she is missing her left hand, and so a new torso was developed for her. The stump is a bit thicker than the standard minidoll, making it the same size as a standard bar, 3.18mm.

  • Minidoll Torso with Left Limb Reduction in Light Nougat (6423982 | 100811).
  • New mold for Hair Curly with Thin Braid in Dark Orange (6409765 | 2640)
  • New print for head and legs

Aliya

  • New mold for Hair Big Curly, Braids in Dark Brown (6409768 | 2644)
  • New print for head, torso and legs

Rare elements

Aside from all the new elements, there are some reappearing elements that are worth mentioning.

  • Panel 1 x 6 x 5 in Aqua/ Light Aqua (6329423 | 59349) has been seen in 3 sets prior.
  • Plate Round Corners 4 x 4 x 2/3 Circle with Reduced Knobs in Flame Yellowish Orange/ Bright Light Orange (6308882 | 66792) has appeared in 1 set before, and is also seen in a 2023 LEGO CITY set.
  • Tile Round 3 x 3 in Dark Red (6316561 | 67095) was introduced in 2020, and since was used in 1 other set.
  • Plate Round 1 x 1 with Hollow Stud and Horizontal Bar 1L in Sand Green (6357616 | 32828)  appeared in 3 sets prior.

  • Slope 45° 2 x 2 Double Convex in Bright Bluish Green/ Dark Turquoise (6270175 | 3045) appeared in 2 earlier sets.
  • Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 No Studs in Dark Orange (6404661 | 37352) has only been used in 71412 Big Bad Island Expansion.
  • Slope 45° 2 x 1 with Bottom Pin in Aqua/ Light Aqua (6163292 | 3040) goes back to 2017, where it appeared in 2 sets.
  • Plate Special 1 x 2 Rounded with 2 Open Studs in Sand Green (6303004 | 35480) has been seen in 2 sets prior.

Building 41730 Autumn's House

We start off with a little stable for Peanut, before heading to the main house.

On the ground floor we find a fireplace with a TV above it. Might this documentary have been made by Mia while on her wildlife rescue, seen in set 41717? Hidden beside the fireplace is a photo of Mia and Stephanie at their graduation I think, and on the other photo we see Mia with short hair and Autumn. I love these little details by the graphic designer that tell a story without words.

On the other side of the house is a small, crowded kitchen spotting the new cabinet and door functioning as a refrigerator. In the conservatory with its many windows, we find the dining table.

On to the second floor, with a small bathroom and Autumn’s room. Grace is eagerly watching the door for Autumn’s return.

On the balcony next to the room we find some more details with a birdwatching book, a checklist and some binoculars. If Autumn spots a bird, she can take a photo with the camera and its telescopic lens.

The build is finished with some cute little rocking chairs, a fire pit and the new cable element adorned with lights.

Conclusion

This set just nails the look and feel of a cosy home - I want to move in now. It is so lovely, and filled with many details, making it a home rather than a house. The color scheme is neutral enough to make it fit within any LEGO display.

Aside from my perceived lack of animals as mentioned, I can’t really find anything to complain about. Maybe the gap between the roof and the top of the wall below could use a row of cheese slopes?

It’s nice to see Mia appear in the soft reboot, linking the two timespans. I’m happy Mia stayed true to the love for animals she had as a girl, even passing it onto her daughter.

I’ve seen a lot of positive reactions to the new cabinet already, and along with the useful recolors, the set brings something to feed your MOC. Unfortunately the new elements do come in low quantities, so I suggest to keep the house built, and to order the needed elements on B&P or Bricklink when they are finally added.

  1. Nice review! I love the look of this set—growing up in the American South, architectural features like the covered porch here are very familiar to me.
