71755 Temple of the Endless Sea is one of the largest sets in the 2021 Seabound subtheme of LEGO® Ninjago. It contains 1060 pieces with an RRP of £89.99 / $99.99 / 99.99€, giving a decent price-per-part value of 8.5p / 9.4c / 9.4c (slightly better in Sterling than other currencies). I was attracted by the Teal, Black and Pearl Gold colour scheme of the set, enjoyed putting it together, but thought it had great MOC potential. Let’s take a look at the new and rare pieces it contains.

Minifigures in 71755 Temple of the Endless Sea

There are seven minifigures included in the set, three “goodies” and four “baddies”. Let’s look at our heroes first:

NRG Nya

  • 1 x Minifig Hair Long, High Ponytail with Dark Blue Headband in Transparent Light Blue/Trans-Light Blue (6342589) - only in Water Dragon
  • 1 x Minifig Head Nya, Metallic Light Blue Eyes, Dark Blue and Metallic Light Blue Face Markings, Dark Azure Lips Print in Aqua/Light Aqua (6345732) - also in Water Dragon

  • 1 x Legs and Hips Dark Azure, Medium Azure/ Light Aqua Patterns print in Earth Blue/ Dark Blue (6341719) - just additionally in Water Dragon
I love Nya’s opal blue hair in this figure, and her torso and leg printing is also particularly good.

Scuba Kai

  • 1 x Minifig Headwear, Ninja Wrap with Diving Mask, Trans-Light Blue Pattern in Bright Red/Red (6342547 | 77151) - only in Hydro Bounty and a polybag 892184 Scuba Kai

  • 1 x Legs and Hips Dark Red Straps, Knee Pads print (Kai) in Bright Red/ Red (6341709) - in Hydro Bounty and Scuba Kai
Kai is wearing a neat Scuba mask/Ninja Wrap which has been dual moulded in trans light blue and red. His head has been in many previous Ninjago sets.

Prince Benthomaar

  • 1 x Minifig Hair Bushy Swept Back (The Joker) in Black (6344417 | 28551)
  • 1 x Minifig Head Prince Benthomaar, Azure Eyes, Black Markings, Smile / Angry Print in Sand Blue (6341720)
  • 1 x Torso Bare Chest, Gold Chains, White Scales, Gold Belt Print, Sand Blue Arms, Dark Blue Hands in Sand Blue (6344422)
  • 1 x Legs and Hips Gold Belt, Loin Cloth print in Sand Blue (6361590)
All of the Prince’s elements are unique to this release.

Now let’s take a look at the “baddies” included in the set.

Maaray Guards

The two Maaray Guards are identical and appear in five other Ninjago Seabound sets from 2021. They each comprise:
  • 1 x Minifig Head Special Snake with Dark Turquoise Flames, Eyes Pattern in Black (6380704)
  • 1 x Minifig Neckwear Armor with Dual Layer Shoulder Pads in Pearl Gold (6303532)
  • 1 x Torso Snake Scales, Gold Chestplate, Dark Turquoise Scales Print, Black Arms, Dark Turquoise Hands in Black (6343419)
  • 1 x Legs and Hips Gold Belt, Knee Pads, Dark Turquoise Decorations print in Black (6341728)

Prince Kalmaar

His head and tentacles/legs have already been covered under New Moulds. He should also be wearing the pearl gold minifigure neckwear mentioned in the Rare & Returning Colours section, but I forgot to put them back on his shoulders for the photo. Oops.
  • 1 x Torso Armor, Gold Chain, Dark Turquoise Scales print, Dark Purple Arms, Pearl Gold Hands in Medium Lilac/Dark Purple (6344225) - also found in Hydro Bounty & Water Dragon

Glutinous

Glutinous has the same head as the Maaray Guards, along with six brick-built legs. He has a torso unique to this set:
  • 1 x Torso, Odd Arms and Hands, Armor, Gold Breathing Apparatus, White Scales print, Left Pearl Gold Arm and Hand, Right Black Arm and Dark Turquoise Hand Hand in Black (6344111)

The Build

The model itself went together in a fairly straightforward manner. Each of the little buildings has a bar and clip at opposite ends so that they can be attached together in pretty much any order you desire. The main temple building dominates, as does the enormous serpent which can be chained up so it can’t escape! Which is probably a good thing.

Play Features

The rear of each building is open to allow access for play. The jail cell has a door which can be pulled off to effect the escape of any prisoner who finds themself incarcerated within. There are plenty of goodies, baddies and side builds to keep play scenarios varied.

Original builds inspired by 71755 Temple of the Endless Sea

Although I loved some of the architectural details in the model, I wasn’t keen on the dollshouse-style open backs, or the rambling, wide shape of the buildings when attached  together. So I decided to build a completely enclosed temple, utilising many of the small builds and architectural flourishes seen in the original. I needed to add a few bits and pieces from my own collection, but a good deal of it came from the parts in the original set.

Temple of the Sacred Pearl

Our tentacled Prince now has a new temple to inhabit. The Sacred Pearl is seen at the base of the open balcony at one end. This most sacred area of the temple is also flanked by two of the aquatic Maaray Guards, one on each side.

At the other end, an ornate, hinged porthole door allows access to the inner sanctum of the temple, which can be reached from the twin steps leading up each side. The roof lifts off for easy access to the interiors.

The numerous small builds have all found a home within the inner sanctum, and fill out the space really well.

Nya’s Sacred Spring Habitat

The other minifigure which impressed me was NRG Nya with her floating waves to stand in and all the watery energy emanating from her hands and body. I made this Sacred Spring habitat for her so that I could show her off to the best advantage. Once more, I kept to the same colours as the original, with the addition of some dark blue to compliment Nya’s outfit.

Conclusion

This set contains many different components which will hopefully lead to some imaginative play. It offers reasonable value for money, considering all the different ways it can be configured, along with seven well thought out minifigures. If you are more interested in unusual pieces, there are plenty of rare elements to be found, either as recolours or returning and rare pieces. The set has plenty of MOC potential, especially if you are a fan of the Ninjago architectural style. 1. Very nice set and even better moc! Small correction- Prince Benthomaar is not unique to this set, as this figurę has appears solo in recent Ninjago Magazine and looks to be exactly the same.

    1. I feel like not counting magazine figs is a valid choice considering that, while Lego has generally stopped doing region exclusivity on regular retail sets, the Lego magazines are not published everywhere and their freebies are consequently limited in their availability depending on where you live.
