LEGO® Fan Media Days 2018: What happened

Posted by Admin
Thanks to over 30 wonderful New Elementary readers who gave generously to our GoFundMe campaign, we were able to send Are J. Heiseldal to LEGO® Fan Media Days 2018 in Billund, Denmark this week.  In reverse chronological order, here's a taste of what happened and what interviews you can expect to read on New Elementary in the coming months!

LEGO TECHNIC 42083 Bugatti Chiron

On Friday the new Technic supercar for 2018 was announced in an exciting press event at LEGO House.

This distinguished gentleman is Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann. Top, top brass right there.

Stephan and LEGO CEO Niels B. Christiansen do the big reveal
Contents of the goody bag for attendees: a LEGO Technic Bugatti wheel, a real leather Bugatti USB stick and a card signed by the LEGO Technic designer, Aurelien Rouffiange

And this little guy has told me that New Elementary's review of 42083 Bugatti Chiron is coming very soon!

Interview junket with LEGO Designers

Thursday was completely taken up with interviews with LEGO employees. We've already published the short interview with Samuel Johnson about the upcoming LEGO Ideas set, Pop-Up Book, but here are some of the longer interviews you can look forward to in the coming weeks and months.

Rok Zgalin Kobe from LEGO Architecture. Also, we have a couple of other special posts about 21042 Statue of Liberty coming in June!
David Tauzia from France is a LEGO Friends designer who showed us this new dual-moulded helmet/ponytail piece. It's available from today, 2 June 2018, in 41352 The Big Race Day.
BrickHeadz Senior Designer Marcos Bessa from Portugal is making eyes at you.

Unikitty! Yi-Chien Cheng from Taiwan and Janko Grujic from Serbia especially laid out all the interesting new parts for New Elementary, and we will discuss these in more detail soon.
Tara Wike and Austin Carlson are designers on LEGO Minifigures and showed us interesting prototypes and new parts.

Wednesday

The first day was taken up with a big meeting of all the attending LEGO Fan Media, including a Go Brick Me session as an icebreaker!

Sadly no teal tiles were available for Are to perfectly render a New Elementary t-shirt, but I think he did a great job nevertheless, including details such as his tan, and carrying the Pulitzer prize he's going to win from these interviews ;)

In the afternoon they had an interesting opportunity which is so secret, Are can't even tell me about it yet! More soon.

Our thanks to everyone at The LEGO Group, especially Kim Ellekjær Thomsen, for making LEGO Fan Media Days 2018 happen and giving us this unparalleled access.

Our GoFundMe campaign is ending soon, and although we've now reached our target if you still want to help out we will definitely be able to use the additional funds, for things like international postage of competition prizes. You can even help us by doing what you perhaps do already - buying from Amazon USA: Amazon.com Canada: Amazon.ca UK: Amazon.co.uk Deutschland: Amazon.de
