The new 1x3 plate with two clips on...Great review!

The new 1x3 plate with two clips on top is getting very close to a part I've wanted for a while—a 1x1 plate with a horizontal clip on two opposite sides. I've wanted something like that to turn the Friends foal (originally the old one, but the new one would work even better) into a pegasus by adding the Legends of Chima wing pieces. This piece probably wouldn't be ideal for that, since it's got a bulky plate extending off each side, but it would work for other applications where you want a similar arrangement of clips and a plate.

The new "hip joint" for large mechs and creatures feels very useful. I've already sung its praises in other comments, but in short, it greatly simplifies and improves the AT-AT joint/Knight's Kingdom joint combination that has become pretty much standard for larger mechs since the Lego Ninjago Movie theme.

The new ball cup is interesting too—that's a part that's already gone through so many iterations! Hopefully this new one once again improves the balance between strength and flexibility to make for a firm joint that won't break.

Build-wise, I really like the look of this dragon. In the early years of the theme dragons tended to be somewhat scrawny, but in recent years many have opted instead for huge burly pectorals that make for a much more impressive look. Some examples include last year's Legacy Fire Dragon or Firstbourne from the "Hunted" wave, but this one feels like a prime example with its huge barrel chest formed with curved slopes and domes.

I don't share your distaste for the swinging tails of many other Ninjago dragons—I feel like it's a great play feature that makes them move in a very natural way—but the tail here is... fine, I guess. A little short but it tapers nicely.

The head build is great here and I love how the bulk helps to justify those massive horns.

In terms of the color scheme, this dragon has quite a complex one, with earth blue, azure, bright and dark green. I can't help but wonder if despite Lloyd getting top billing this was conceptualized as a "fusion dragon" between Lloyd and Nya. Despite its complexity the colors are organized well, and as you mention it allows for some great recolors.Andrew Barnickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11723179808721244651noreply@blogger.com
