Despite being released in January 2025, Brick Round Corner 2 x 2 x 1 (5924) has been surprisingly absent in sets – but why? Today we try to answer just that, as we analyse the latest member of the macaroni family.

Geometry and techniques
5924 has the same footprint and reinforced underside as a modern 2 x 2 Macaroni Brick (85080) and 2 x 2 Macaroni Tile (27925).
Its other radius matches curved bricks such as this 1 x 2 x 1 Curved Top Brick (37352) – no surprises there either.

What is a bit perplexing is that, for a new element as of January, it has only appeared in yellow (6533524) in 77002 Cyclone vs. Metal Sonic. Upcoming sets will change that though – so far we've spotted it in:
Black
- 4 x in 43010 Nike Slam Dunk, available 1 September
- 4 x in 76785 Thing's Apartment, available 1 October
White
- 2 x in 43021 Nike Dunk Trickshot, available 1 September
Light Bluish Gray
- 2 x in 72046 Game Boy™, available 1 October

Why only yellow?
One possible explanation for its initial scarcity is it's similarly to Brick Round 4 x 4 Dome Top with Round 2 x 2 Recess (79850) – at least when using them in a circle. After all, why use four elements when one would do?
Another possibility is that filling the 1 x 1 quarter round cut-out can be a bit cumbersome. One option is to use parts with 1 module radius such as a 2 x 2 round brick (3941, 6143 – pictured in green above right). Alternatively there's the humble tap (4599, shown in red on the left) with a quarter-tile on top – more compact, but a tad elaborate.
Its close-ish relatives are comparatively easier to work with, and each sport similar rounded corners:
- Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 Quarter Dome with 1 Cutout (5906)
- Brick Curved 2 x 2 x 1 1/3 Curved Top, Corner (67810)
Minor integration hurdles aside, it's great to see the curved macaroni Wi-Fi icon complete.
Together the four macaroni make a rather lovely Fibonacci-like spiral.
How about a build that is a bit more substantial?
Micro Slave 1 MOC
Here I used 4 x 5924s for the shoulders of a tiny Slave 1. It's the perfect element for that area of the ship at this scale, so I'll be surprised if we don't see it used in an official set at some point – of course it'll need to be in dark green for that.
