2019 Parts Fest #2: Pierre-E Fieschi's Imperial Star Destroyer and Chibi Tanks

Posted by Elspeth De Montes
The LEGO® parts festival we ran in late 2019 was so big and so successful, we didn't have time to finish publishing all the amazing creations our chosen builders came up with! So at last, over the next few days, we will publish the remaining models featuring our selected elements introduced in 2019. Warming us back up is French concept artist and architect Pierre-E Fieschi who showcases more of his inspiring ideas, following on from his Liebherr tunnelling machine and his sci-fi containers and launch pad.

Imperial Star Destroyer

This small Imperial Star Destroyer was a lot of fun to build. The large hook/grappler kind of resembles the trapezoid of the ISD bridge. It is found in the 'Batman bag' (Mini Accessory, No. 10 – 6266155| 40598).

The rear view of the ISD shows that the 'headlamp' from Mini Accessory, No. 11 (6266977|50018) combined with the new binoculars from Friends sets (Design Plate 1X1X2/3 No.1 in Dark Stone Grey / Dark Bluish Gray – 6263570|52494). These worked great for the thrusters.

The biggest problem on this build ended up being my lack of grey wedge plates!!

Chibi Tanks

A Chibi-style tank was one of my first ideas when seeing the giant bag of those new binoculars that I received. I wanted the tanks to look a bit cute… sort of a mix of WWI plus Battalion Wars plus Studio Ghibli.

I had already used binoculars for mimicking bogies/wheels for the track system many years ago, but things kinda degenerated here when I started fiddling with the large dino parts for the turrets. This turret uses the Dinosaur neck/tail Ring (40375) with the Sphere 3X3X11/3, W/ Knob in Medium Stone Grey (6263183|49308) on top.

This Sand Blue tank uses the grenades and discs from Mini Accessory, No. 10 in Silver Metallic/ Flat Silver (6266155|40598) for the wheels and sprocket of the track system. And while the same Dinosaur neck/tail Ring is used in Sand Blue, this time the Plate 4X4, Circle, W/ 2 Knobs in Medium Stone Grey (6250188|32627) forms the turret hatch.

  3. Those chibi tanks make me think of semi-parodic Japanese pop culture, such as Metal Slug or Dominion Tank Police...
