Nexo-Classic Space: Drew Hamilton

Posted by Admin
We have a fun week ahead! In January the LEGO® Group sent a delicious selection of new parts, mostly from the Nexo Knights theme, for New Elementary to play with and we will be publishing the results over the next week. Come back every day to check it out. As you can see below there were a lot of Neo-Classic Space colours in there so I couldn't resist asking a bunch of Spacers to come up with something Spacey!

For the record, here are the parts with their official TLG \ unofficial BrickLink colours and names along with the (Element ID | Design ID). For the uninitiated reader: Element IDs are the specific number assigned to every different colour and shape of LEGO part. Design IDs, more commonly called part numbers, refer to the shape only. So for example you can see the blue and grey pentagonal tiles share the same Design ID but have different Element IDs. These numbers are useful for searching for pieces online or ordering from LEGO replacement parts service.
  • Medium Stone Grey Wall double corner 1x2x1 \ Light Bluish Gray Panel 1 x 2 x 1 with Rounded Corners and 2 Sides (6138696 | 23969)
  • White Right plate 2x2 27deg \ White Wedge, Plate 2 x 2 Right (6132204 | 24307)
  • White Left plate 2x2 27deg \ White Wedge, Plate 2 x 2 Left (6132203 | 24299)
  • Tr. Floure.Redd. Orange 3.2 Shaft w/ 5.9 ball \ Trans-Neon Orange Bar 1L with Towball (6131711 | 22484)
  • Medium Stone Grey Flat Tile 2x3 w/angle \ Light Bluish Gray Tile, Modified 2 x 3 Pentagonal (6138695 | 22385)
  • Bright Blue Flat Tile 2x3 w/angle / Blue Tile, Modified 2 x 3 Pentagonal (6128871 | 22385)
  • Medium Stone Grey Torso No.1 \ Light Bluish Gray Torso Mechanical, Nexo Bot (6129994 | 24078)

As I was busy on assignment in Australia, Space Surgeon-Lieutenant Elspeth De Montes (AzureBrick) kindly divvied up and posted the parts across England to Jason Briscoe (Brizzasbricks), Tim Goddard (Rogue Bantha), Drew Hamilton (Wami Delthorn), Peter Reid (Legoloverman), David Alexander Smith (David_Alexander_Smith) and Jeremy Williams (Bricking It).

I am publishing their builds in separate posts over the course of the coming week and kicking things off today we have an awesome build from Drew Hamilton:

Utility Bot

Those trans-orange towballs sure sit nicely inside the double-cornered panel! Andrew included a lot of the Nexo bot torsos, leveraging their industrial greebly look and multiple connections to use them as limbs and joints. I especially like that the ones he used as calves have been disguised with 1x1 tiles and Technic half-bushes. The Nexo bot torso is a very interesting and unusual piece: read why in an earlier New Elementary post here.

Andrew clearly loves the pentagonal tile as he bought a whole bunch more to include a simple but stunning wall. He also used the ingot piece as a skirting, echoing the chamfered edges which both parts have. He wasn't the only of our builders to notice this similarity and of course many of them had fun making tessellations with the pentagonal tiles too, but no-one went to the length of buying loads and making these pretty elongated hexagons.

You may recall Andrew is a bit of a fan of space hexagons - early last year he created a popular work called Vacuum Cleaning Duty:

Don't forget to return tomorrow to see more fantastic creations from the New Elementary team of Spacers! Thanks for today Drew... folks, you can follow Drew on Flickr here.

  1. Seeing all the bars with clip used for the fingers of that MOC reminds me... the Nexo Knights and Ninjago sets I've gotten this year have also included what seems to be a remolded version of that part with a flatter end to the bar. It's a very useful redesign, since it allows those parts to be attached more securely to ordinary recessed studs (even those on parts like Technic bricks that aren't recessed deeper than the height of the stud itself).

    1. Drew, well done mate. Even with my special delivery of top secret Nexo parts from Billund, i don't have that number of shields. You must have cleared out Bricklink!
