NEXOGON: Mecha with drone detail

Posted by Admin
Today we introduce Li Li; another of our featured builders in our parts festival using the new hexagonal LEGO® piece, 27255. Many of you will know Li from his website full of excellent building techniques, MOC Recipes, and if you don't - well, bookmark it now! Li has already sent a bunch of cool stuff and we kick off today with one of his models.

One of the first things that I wanted to build with the Nexogon was a mecha. This inverted triangular piece seemed like the perfect way to build a buff torso. So here’s my attempt.

The shoulders are fixed, which is a big drawback. I need to think of a new way to attach the shoulders to make them articulated.

One thing that I really liked about this MOC is how nicely the Hero Factory piece known as Drone Detail in the TLG/Brickset database and Shoulder Armor with Wings on BrickLink (Element ID 6001087|Design ID 98589) fits with the Nexogon. First I attached two 1x1 round plates with hole (Design IDs 85861 & 28626) to the 3.18mm connectors to create a stud connection.

This structure is only attached to the Nexogon by one stud in the centre — but the second stud is kept in place by the inner two studs of the 2x2 studs of the Nexogon. So it won’t swivel around.

  1. Ooh, I love this! Yeah, the Nexogon works perfectly as a buff torso. And the drone marries with it very well; I'll have to experiment with that! Great work! :)
